Norway Scenic and Roads & Rivers of Europe (conflicts)

Featured Replies

Hi,Has anyone installed Norway Scenic and then subsequently installed R&ROE, only to find that the latter messes everything up?As you know, unfortunately it's not just a simple matter of disabling R&ROE while flying in Norway nor does the problem (mainly LWM and shorelines) go away by adjusting priorities in the scenery library. The reason being R&ROE substitutes many modified files which remain and cause conflicts with 3rd party scenery even when the scenery (R&ROE) is inactive. What I would like to do is identify all the landclass files in Norway changed by the R&ROE installer. I've proceeded some way along this route already, and have had some success by concentrating my efforts on HL*.bgl and HP*.bgl files but am concerned that I may either be missing some files or changing too many back to the pre-R&ROE state, i.e. changing files affecting areas outside Norway.I know Norway Scenic provides a list of files to backup before removing them from SceneryEure and SceneryEurw. These are not the issue as they are no longer present in the above folders. Leaving the other R&ROE modified files affecting Norway demonstrates all too clearly that the two addons cannot coexist and the results are for all to see with, e.g. double shorelines filled with water.I am hoping some of you have been down this route before and can enlighten me. I know I am mainly concerned about LWM and Shoreline landclass files, but could it be that other categories are also involved?Correct me if I am wrong but Norway Scenic appears to be mainly a landclass addon with no texture folder. Should I be taking care as to where this is placed in the Scenery Library. To give it priority, should it be placed in a high position or should it be placed low down in the Scenery Library as seen in FS9. I have a feeling that I remember the latter is the correct assumption, unlike mesh which should be given a higher priority to be active. Many thanks!Mike

What follows is my solution. I don't pretend that this is the definitive answer but from what I am seeing it has produced pretty good results so far:This first set of files are copies of what I am calling the Pre_R&ROE files and serve as a reminder of the files whose extensions I changed back to .bgl in the EureScenery folder. When installed, R&ROE renamed these files by changing the file extension to .rre and substituted its own modified file equivalents.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135357.jpgThis second set of files are those modified files substituted by R&ROE and these I have removed from EureScenery.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135358.jpgThis third set of files are those removed from EureScenery and are listed in the installation instructions that came with the Norway_Roads package. The files with the .rre extension could have been left behind as they are inactive. Once again, they represent the pre R&ROE state so they should be reinstated in the EureScenery folder along with the modified bgl files in the temp_hold_for_Norway_Roads if or when I decide to uninstall R&ROE. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135359.jpgThis fourth set of files are those removed from EureScenery and are listed in the installation instructions that came with the Norway_Scenic package.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135360.jpgThe remaining files apply to the EurwScenery folder and are dealt with in the following post My Solution - Page 2Mike

The following are the images covering the file manipulations in the folder SceneryEurw. The explanations are the same as outlined in the previous post My Solution - Page 1 so I won't repeat them here.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135362.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135363.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135364.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135365.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135366.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135367.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135368.jpgHope this has been helpful. It's certainly worth the effort. At the moment all the Norway Scenery has priority over Roads and Rivers of Europe in my Scenery Library. However, assuming I have caught most of the affected files, where Norway is concerned it should no longer matter now whether R&ROE is active or not. Please feel free to chip in if you notice anything I've missed.Mike

However, assuming I have caught most of the affected files, where Norway is concerned it should no longer matter now whether R&ROE is active or not.Sadly, I have since found that R&ROE still has to be inactive in the Scenery library for the Norway LWM files to display correctly. Ah well, back to the drawing board :( I had hoped that you could now have R&ROE active in the scenery library and benefit from all it has to offer outside Norway and yet be able to fly into Norway without having to deactivate it in the library.A very disappointed(and somewhat frustrated) Mike
