Great news for land class developers!

Featured Replies

Global land cover data is available from ESA at 300 meter resolution. That is a higher resolution than FSX is capable of maintaining in its landclass tile system. So one would have to use vector data to fully make use of this land class information.Of particular interest might be the outlines of cities, as well as forests.A zoomamble interactive land cover map is to be found HEREhttp://postel.mediasfrance.org/breve.php3?id_breve=21The full multiple TB data set will be made available for access mid of 2008.Press release/article herE:http://www.esa.int/esaCP/SEMZ16L26DF_index_0.htmlChristian

Thanks very much for the information, Christian. That MERIS data has been in post-processing for quite a long time and it is good to finally see a release date. The U.N. Land Cover Classification System that is used is not consistent with the Olson land cover system used by Flight Simulator, though. The LCCS does not even define land use classes, and works quite differently by instead defining criteria used for classification. This will make the MERIS data quite difficult to use for our purposes, perhaps even impossible. We shall have to await the release to see exactly how that works out.Best regards.Luis
