July 10, 200223 yr I plan to develop a terrain following radar gauge. I can easily get the ground altitude below the aircraft, but I need to get the ground altitude in front of the aircraft (0.5 or 1 NM ahead).I am not a scenery expert, but if anyone knows how I can get this information from the scenery, I'd be glad to know...Thanks !! July 11, 200223 yr Dear Eric; For sure your is a very interesting project! and for sure would like to try this gauge as soon is available!I give an idea and hope it can help you.You very likely need relief maps - in order to ceck alitudes of terrain. You can build relief maps with macrodem - using gtopo - or dt0 dem - and then exctrat the relief maps - which can also be tagged in order to show altitudes in numbers of feet meters - and relief lines -best to show on 4 to 500 m of intervals - but with microdem you can also show at 100 m intervals - just takes a bit longer.this way you can build reliefs maps in order to ceck terrain altitudes for any area of the world you wish.hope this helpRay
