April 18, 200323 yr Hello, Can anyone tell me about Canadian Mesh Scenery and what is the best? Paticularly B.C./Alberta and the North ^60??Thanks,Kevin
April 18, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi Kevin:Can't tell you about the quality of payware meshes because I don't own any (there are a number of new ones based on Shuttle Radar data) but there's a thread here:http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...&topic_id=12943In general, payware's claim to fame is the ease of installation and full coverage, though there might be an issue with respect to quantity over quality - that's my opinion! - see this thread: http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...sg_id=626&page=For freeware, there's the fantastic new Canadian Rockies mesh by Gary Snow (CdnRockies.bgl) and some of it overlaps with the demo for Raimondo Taburet's payware Canada mesh (srtm_canada.zip).For BC, you're only freeware choice is my set of mesh files (search for Holger Sandmann), which has been very favourably reviewed by John Dale: http://www.flynorth.com/BCMesh.htm (actually, there are some older freeware meshes of BC but they are based on 1-km resolution data which doesn't much improve on the default level of detail). For Alaska, there's the freeware meshes by Ed Denney in two versions (most people use the FS2000 version: slightly less detail but fewer visual problems) and it's the base for many freeware scenery add-ons in Alaska. The Yukon government has provided free 90-m digital terrain data but to date no one has turned that into a freeware mesh; I seem to remember that there's a payware version of these data, perhaps by FS Genesis???You can expect more freeware mesh files based on the Shuttle data becoming available soon; a wonderful example for eastern Canada is the 5-part Quebec mesh by Gilles Gauthier, available here at AVSIM.Hope that helps. Cheers,Holger
