Hi Jim,>Having briefly visited the FS Genesis web site, I know that>they sell digital topo files.>>Exactly what type of files DO they sell?>MSFS Terrain and Landclass.>Which are most accurate?>The smaller the meters, the more detailed and accurate. IOW, 9.6m terrain is more detailed than 38.2m. This figure represents the distance between elevation points.>Why the different types of data?>Some areas will not benefit from higher-resolution terrain. It would be almost silly to use 9.6m terrain in an area that is flat, since that area would look essentially the same whether using 9.6m between elevation points or 76.4m between elevation points. And 9.6m terrain, obviously, contains much, much more data for the terrain engine to process. Also, one must use source data appropriate for the output resolution. One shouldn't use 90m source data, for instance, to create 38.2m terrain, since the resampler will have to "invent" too much data to fill in the spaces in the array and the result will be a loss of accuracy while at the same time needlessly taxing the terrain engine. So the output resolution should be closely tied to the resolution of the available source files. The 90m SRTM data outside the US recently became available, so that's why you're now seeing 76.4m terrain for areas outside the US. If there were any 30m source data available, you'd probably be seeing 38.2m terrain instead.>"Big picture" and some specific answers would be greatly>appreciated! :-wave Hope this helps-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x
