Problem with Norway

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,I posted this in the Scenery Design Forum, but so far no response: Okay, I've installed Lennart's Norway ground textures by creating a separate folder called 'NorthEurope' containing the FS9 defaults + Lennart's new seasonal textures. This is placed in the SceneryWorld folder ready to be renamed to 'texture' as and when appropriate.I went for a flight at LOD9 (76m) and saw what I am assuming to be redesigned shorelines around existing shores, but no textures filling in between the old and the new:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101442.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101443.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101444.jpgI have confirmed that this probably has nothing to do with Lennart's new texture sets as these lines appear with Ruud Faber's FScene ground textures as well. Therefore I'm now wondering whether this is a Mesh problem. I have Lago's North and South Scandanavian Terramesh files covering this area (as recommended by Lennart) so could it have something to do with the positioning of these files in the Scenery library?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101445.jpgCorrect me if I am wrong, but am I correct in believing Lago's terramesh files were compiled at LOD9 (76m)?Perhaps this observation has nothing to do with the displayed mesh and is due to something else entirely. If so, what exactly and how do I correct it?I have no problems in the UK and have disabled Lago's terramesh files in favour of FSGenesis's SRTM 76m mesh. Thanks.Mike

Hi.Looks to me very much like you've got a stray HP* file remaining where it shouldn't be. These contain the water definitions. Take a look at the installation instructions for the Norway scenery, they probably say to disable a partcular file - there may be a corresponding HL* file too.If not, download LWMViewer from http://www.jimkeir.co.uk, load something from the Norway scenery and then select 'Load this area' from the pop-up menu. The corresponding default files will be loaded, and you'll be able to see which ones clash. Then, disable them by renaming them from *.BGL to *.BAK, or adding them to a zipfile and deleting the originals. I'd suggest only removing the HP* and HL* files, these ones define coastlines.HTH,Jim Keir

Hi Jim,Mea culpa, I'm afraid to say! :-( I failed to look at the readme provided by Torgeir Opland (Norway_Scenic).In all I had to remove in total 63 files (HL*, HP* and ST*) from the SceneryEurw and SceneryEure folders. Sim seems fine now following a quick check. Thanks for your help. In fact, your advice led me to look again at the Norway_Scenic folder and zip archive and that's what triggered the realisation that it was my own fault. You would think I should have learned by now...ugh!I note Torgeir used one of your other utilities (Slartibartfast) in the creation of his scenery. That must be a real boon to the more adventurous designers.Well, at least I have picked up a few things from the experience and you have introduced me to yet another interesting aspect of the sim. I have d/l your intriguing LWMViewer utility and will soon start exploring :) Incidentally, there was a missing file in the archive - mfc71.dll - I conducted a search and found it as part of my AVG Antivirus installation (version 7.10.3077.0). I placed a copy in the same folder as the other extracted files and the viewer appears to load ok now. I haven't explored the workings of the viewer as yet. Thanks again for your helpful input.Merry Christmas and I wish you a very happy and successful New Year!Regards,MikeP.S. Could you comment about my Mesh priority layout please? For example, is it necessary for me to disable TMS_UK&Ireland to be able to see the equivalent 76m LOD9 SRTM FSGenesis Mesh? Should the FSGenesis Mesh have a higher or lower priority - I think the latter is correct, but would like confirmation. Thanks.

This tells that its important to read the readmefile... Norway_Scenic contains new coastlines, lakes and rivers for the entire Norway and you have to remove or rename some of fs9's default hp, hl and st files else you will end up with a double set of coastlines... Happy new year all of you :)www.fotoscenery.com
