FSGenesis mesh - thwarted again !

Recommended Posts

Hi,Sorry but I have not posted in this forum before ....Why, oh, why is it, that when yet another supposedly wonderful mesh terrain project is announced by FSGeneis via the AVSIM front page, I cannot get to see any screenshots of it ?Its frustrating as well as being just plain bad service to announce a major scenery product such as this - and then prohibit anyone from seeing what it actually looks like!Don't get me wrong - I have the greatest respect for companies like FSGenesis and Justin who do a lot of work to make FS a great "place" to fly in. But each time FSGenesis announce a mesh on the AVSIM news page, I can never, no matter how hard I try, get to see any images of what it actually looks like!Is it me ? Or am I missing something here ? Or is this just a bit of a devilish customer ploy ?thanks for listening,Cheers,

Hello, you can not see and read in the presentation , what people are producing out from the source data! Sometimes! :)Sometimes they do not know the difference between projection and datum. :)I would call it

Hi Lee,Sorry. Sometimes we get so busy in production that we don't take much time for marketing matters, such as screenshots and such. I've never been real strong on marketing stuff, preferring to concentrate on the production and quality-control of my products. My best marketing comes from the word-of-mouth of my loyal and satisfied customers, many of whom have been with me for the better part of decade. But if you go to http://www.fsgenesis.net and click "Gallery" on the left menu you'll find thousands of images of FSG products. I don't have any specific to the new Mexico 38m right at the moment (too busy working on the next release), but there you can get a general idea of what higher-resolution terrain mesh looks like. As well, searching for "Justin Tyme" in the file library should return numerous free downloads that you can install, which I think is more useful and revealing than mere screenshots. As well, if you go to my forums and make a request to see a specific area, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to capture and post some images.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

Hi Horst,The "State of the Art" was something the AVSIM editor added to my press release copy, but as noted, it was compiled from 30m INEGI source data. One LOD: 10, also noted in the product's title. (There is also a new update to the 76m Mexico & Caribbean that uses the same source data, but a separate product in LOD9.)I don't think most customers care what tools I used, as very few, if any, have ever asked in the four or five years I've been distributing terrain mesh, but since you've asked, my GIS is Manifold 6.5 Universal Edition and the MS 2004 Terrain SDK resample.exe.As far as compatibility, as far as I know it's compatible with anything one would care to install in that region. The only possible incompatibility, aside from the usual issues that may be presented by the "flat airport limitation" or misplaced default airports, might be in any fictional airports that may use the default terrain as a template, but I am not aware of any of those. In order to see the LOD12 (which will resolve to LOD11 in FS 9.1) you have to change the TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL= setting in your fs9.cfg to 21.Some of the more technically-minded may be acutely concerned with the metadata you mention, but the vast majority of customers only want to install it as quickly and simply as possible and just go fly. They simply aren't concerned about the development processes, data preparation, techniques, tools, and how the product came into existence--they simply want to fly through the finished product and expect that it will be, for the most part, free of major anomalies. So that is what I strive to provide. That said, I intent to eventually publish a set of metadata for the whole worldwide set, but working on it right now would intrude on production time, as I typically have at least three products in various stages of production at any given time.I hope this anwsers most of your questions, and I appreciate your curiousity.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

Well, on the LOD8 version mesh terrain I uploaded, there are several images used for the test of the production of my INEGI LOD10 (1.24" lat, 1.65" lon) mesh terrain, named after the page they try to reproduce from the book "Mexico, A Higher Vision", and is free, online here at AVSIM. I'm correcting some issues on the U.S.A. border and replacing SRTM1 data with NED data for the LOD9 and LOD10 versions that I'll be uploading in the beginning of next year.I couldn't upload this before, but my version was ready since mid october, in fact the test images are form march and april.http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/ocelotl/portada.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/ocelotl/pag158.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/ocelotl/pag165.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/ocelotl/pag166.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/ocelotl/pag175.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/ocelotl/pag184-5.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/ocelo...roymexlogog.jpg
