help with parking using afcad

Recommended Posts

i'm starting to rework my current version of KPIT and i was wondering if there is a way to have certain airlines go to a specific part of the airport when they land.for example have all the US Air park at the main terminal/gate/parking spot while having others (NW,AA...) go to the gates that are further west and have cessna's and other general traffic (FED EX, UPS) head to another part of the airport.i know there is something called aitm but i have trouble with that since there's an error message saying there is a file that is not available.is there a way to rework an airport without aitm as an aide?

What you want to do is implement RAFCAD at KPIT. The details can be found over at Project AI. What you basically do is re-define the parking space radii and the aircraft radii so that the planes from each airline and plane class (heavy, domestic, regional) will just fit into the desired gates. However, you will have to figure out your problem with AITM. This is generally an easy install, but I think there are 1 or 2 files you need (sometimes.) These are well-documented in the Help files for AITM, and are easily available.AITM is the tool for setting the aircraft radius, by the way. As far as I know, there is no other utility for doing that. The gate radius is set with AFCAD.

You can also make overlays. In KPIT, example, put in the United gates and delete the rest. Then make a new airport called 2PIT. Put all the American parking there. Then make 3PIT and keep going on, put one airline per overlay. Save them and use AITM to move traffic to the specified overlay.

I would also recommend setting it up with Radius AFCAD. You can get all the aircraft to go to the correct gates without any extra overlays. If you don't have overlays you won't need to worry about "moving" aircraft and all the other problems that come with overlays. But you will still need to get AITM working to change all the aircraft radius settings, and it does take a little bit of time to get your system set up to use RAFCAD.Attached is a screenshot of what an airport looks like when using RAFCAD. This is one I'm working on right now for KLAX. Each colored gate is a different airline, when an airline lands it first tries to go to the gate you assign it. For example, United is the Bluish/Grey color, American is Yellow, Southwest is Orange, etc.I'm still using one extra overlay at KLAX to allow all 4 runways to be used at once, but at smaller airports like KPIT, this isn't necessary. If you want to download some RAFCADs that have already been done, there is about 100 of them here.http://myhome.starstream.net/mfox/rafcad.htmAlso, if you want to learn how to set up RAFCAD see this post in the RAFCAD Discussion forum at http://projectai.flight1.net/http://projectai.flight1.net/forums/forum_...asp?TID=56&PN=1Matt Foxhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4207.jpg

Here's what it looks like when all done. The other advantage of RAFCAD is that you can have heavy's park at gates meant for heavy's, Regional Jets park at commuter terminals, International aircraft use International terminal, etc. Again, this was all done without using overlays. Although one extra overlay was added only to enable all 4 runways.MattTerminal 1 - Southwest, America West and USAirhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4219.jpgTom Bradley International Terminalhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4220.jpgFedEx Cargo Areahttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4221.jpgTerminals 7 and 8 - Unitedhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4222.jpg
