Mustangs As AI

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, thanks to forum's like this I seem to be managing to get most of my AI troubles sorted out. :)Does anyone have one of Roger Dial's wonderful P-51 Mustangs running as AI? I would love to se this beauty operating at my home strip.Ideas or tips appreciated, thanks in advance, D8pilot

Well as far as AI goes, it worked - but it wasn't pretty! No surprise the standard Model/FDE didn't work so well but it did land at my airport, taxi to and shut down at the gate.I'm looking for suggestions on something that will work for this aircraft. It sure looked cool enroute! Thanks, D8pilothttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/5731.jpg

Try replacing the FDE file with one of the default planes?

Yes, copy in the AIR and aircraft.cfg file from a plane like the Beech Baron (or from an existing AI aircraft that flies well). But make sure to cut and paste in the Contact Points section from the original Mustang aircraft.cfg file.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Thanks for your replys guy's. I got it to work using the stock King Air 350 files with the Mustang contact points as you mention above. Pretty realistic as far as AI goes! It looks great with the tail raised for take-off and lands much like the real thing, one quick little bounce just to let you know it isn't tied down yet. :-lolCheers, D8pilot

Tom,Can you please explain (in idiot speak) what you mean by "copy in the air and aircraft.cfg file" please?John MayEGXP

Go to the King Air folder, copy the air file and paste it in the Mustang folder. Get the King Air aircraft.cfg, put it in the Mustang folder, copy and paste the top part of the Mustang's aircraft.cfg into it, then copy and paste the Mustang's contact points into the King Air aircraft. Vola!

Thanks for that; would I also have to rename the King.air file to read Mustang.air?John

You can do that however you like - the sim= line in the aircraft.cfg file specifies the AIR file that is used (without the .AIR file extension). So, to use a file called king.AIR file in the mustang, just change the line to read sim=kingHope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Tom,Thanks for that; I did just as you suggested and, to my surpise, a Meteor F8 now flies beautifully as AI, using the King air file, and lands just over the piano keys instead of pitching up violently at the threshold then thumping down about half-way down the runway.Just one small snag remains. They Meteor now generates the King Air sounds instead of the sweet jet engine noises it used to. Any suggestions?John

Two things to check, folling is an example of my AI Mustang Aircraft.cfg:-----------------------------------------------------[fltsim.0]title=AI P-51D Mustangsim=Beech_King_Air_350model=panel=sound= <<<<==== Sound line is default as picturedkb_checklists=kb_reference=editable=0atc_id=GMUSatc_airline=atc_flight_number=atc_heavy=0ui_manufacturer=Project AIui_type=Mustangui_variation=Miss Americavisual_damage=1description=GMAX P-51 'Miss America' Mustang. ------------------------------------------------------And that the "Sound" folder itself is the Meteor sound package and not the King Air 350 package. Folder should be "Sound" only, not "Sound.XXXX" Hope this helps, happy landings, D8pilot

Your only option is to use a jet default flight model for your Meteor, rather than the turboprop model (the 737 is a good one). That will trigger the correct AI sounds to be played (they are all in the main FS2002 SOUND folder).Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Thank you all for your good advice. I now have Meteor F8s happily flying circuits at Bruggen and Laarbruch and landing accurately and smoothly just over the piano keys. They also emit the proper jet sounds.Armed with this new knowledge, I now have various other aircraft which I can sort out.JohnEGXP
