AFCAD 2 won't Open / Hangs up

Featured Replies

For whatever reason, AFCAD 2 will not start and hangs until I finally have to shut the program down. I am using FS2004. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Two things that I'm aware of which can cause AFCAD to lockup as you say.One is errors in the main scenery.cfg file - have you installed or removed any scenery lately - deleting a scenery folder and not cleaning up the scenery.cfg file can also cause this problem - along with mis-numbered/ out of sequence sections. The other is corruption in the indexing files which AFCAD uses - they are text files with the names AIRPORTINDEX and FILELIST - no extensions. Those can be safely deleted at any time and AFCAD will rebuild them.

Thanks for your time. I changed out my scenery.cfg file to a short version and deleted all multiple AFCAD files I've kept around, including the Index and Filelists. It still won't open. It goes to three bars and stalls. Too bad. You never know how much you miss something until it's gone.

AFCAD now opens, thanks to your suggestions. The problem is with the scenery file, which, for me, is quite large. I shortened the file yet again and AFCAD opened fine. I will have to decide which airports I want to modify and cut out everything in the scenery.cfg area except default and the airports I want to work on. Thanks for your time.
