How do you re-paint an aircraft?

Featured Replies

Could someone let me know how you re-paint the aircraft, Im itching to have a go?Steve

G'day Steve,Ok mate glad to see someone wanting to have a go :-)First you need a good paint program. Any derivitive of Photoshop or Paintshop Pro should do.Then you need a couple of good pics of the livery you want to paint.Make sure you have the permission of the aircraft author. All the standard Tri aircraft are fair game but if it is a third party aircraft then permission must be sought. If approached most authors are only too willing to assist in any way possible. Now the nitty gritty. The livery for each aircraft is held inside the pod files as *.tif files. Use Podview (utility in tools directory) to extract the tif file to the Fly!IIart folder. There are 3 tif files ( low, med and hires). Just for starters only extract the hires one. It's somewhere between 1 - 2 MB in size. Once you have the hires Tif file in the art folder just open it in your paint program and go for it.Edit. The tif file is saved as an indexed colour file so convert it to an RGB file, do all your beaut artwork and then convert it back to an indexed colour file. This is all done within your paint program (the file will actually work as an RGB file but indexed colour file saves memory and increases speed).Make sure that you have searchpodfilesfirst=0 in the fly.ini file and you can run Fly!II at any time to check your progress.DO NOT USE PURE BLACK ( 0,0,0 ) as fly sees this as transparent. If you want black then use some thing like 3,4,5 . Technically you only have to change one of the zero's.If you have any questions then post again and I'm sure you'll get the answers you require.Good luck with the repainting.Cheers,Roger @YSSY

Thanks very much Roger,WATCH THIS SPACE :0)
