anyone know how to add Instrument Arrival Charts?

Featured Replies

It would be great to add some charts, such as our favorite arrival and departure charts, right in FLY2. Does anyone know an easy way. there's a tutorial that shows how to add vfr and ifr charts. It has a broken link and it features vfr and ifr charts, which have lots of coordinates--unlike an approach chart which is relatively a simpler chart. Yet, I don't know what coordinates to enter. Here's the chart. tony

it's possible to have several maps "on line" in the same time with Fly!an exemple with VFR, IFR-m, IFR-h):http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dfad2aa0acf0603.jpgThen I think you can add airport chart too.Send your question to Gilles (map specialist at ROTW)[email protected] be He can help you. But, don't forget: these charts are copyrighted

Thanks, Rene. I simply need to get an idea of how the *.map file needs to be configured for these relatively simple maps. One can than create the essential map files for personal use.tony

Thanks, Rene. Gilles has already sent me a sample file and I am on my way to having real approach and departure charts in FLY2. It would be a great idea if someone could write a program( like fsi) that would automate the process of entering STAR and IDP charts into FLY2.tony

Rene, Gilles, and Tony,I'm trying to understand the general concept here. 1. Scan in an approach chart and convert to what? PBM image?2. Somehow add this as a choice in one of the maps? Would you mind copying the sample here?I'm very interested in this possibility too.Jeff

I am just starting, so I cannot tell you more than what I've learned so far. download the free er mapper, which will convert a jpg or bmp file into a *.ecw file. This will be your 'graphic' file. You need then to creat a *.map file to make this fraphic file display correctly in FLY2. I have just received a sample file from Gilles from ROTW, and, sure enough, I've managed to get my first chart. I wonder if Gilles would mind uploading the example file, or I can e-mail it to you, provided that I don't violate Gilles' wishes.tony

Thanks Tony!As long as it's ok with Gilles, my email address is [email protected] mention a free er mapper. I'm not sure what you mean. I'll do a search for it, but if you have a web site, that would be great! Thanks,Jeff

Jeff:What you want is the free ECW Compressor and you can find it here:http://www.ermapper.com/download_new/downl..._VERSION_ID=152Also, I think you're better off converting from PDF (if, for example, you're downloading from www.AOPA.org) to TIFF with Photoshop or another paint program and then from TIFF to ECW using the ECW Compressor. I got a couple of errors using BMPs.Take care,Alejandro AmigorenaCheshire, CTAthlon XP 1800ABIT KR7A-RAID768Mb RAMGeForce 3 64MBSB Audigy GamerCH Flight Yoke USBCH Pro Pedals USB

While we're on the subject of maps, I have an ONCE chart in .NOS format but the viewer program I have has no means of exporting this into another format. Does anyone know of a utility that can work with this type of file?Andrew Luck18 miles SW EGSH

Tony:Take a look:http://members.cox.net/aamigorena/images/PVDILS.jpgLet me know if you want to know how I did it.Take care,Alejandro AmigorenaCheshire, CTAthlon XP 1800ABIT KR7A-RAID768Mb RAMGeForce 3 64MBSB Audigy GamerCH Flight Yoke USBCH Pro Pedals USB

That's very good Alejandro. I'd like to see your *.map file, since mine doesn't yet give me a map as clear and compete as yours. Thanks.tony

Tony:Here's the .map file in .txt format. Just rename it to .mapI used some rough lat/lon based on PVD's coordinates (+/- 10').The little aircraft doesn't show yet but I haven't really played around much with it and notice that I have just a 1x1 grid.Hope it helps!Alejandro AmigorenaCheshire, CTAthlon XP 1800ABIT KR7A-RAID768Mb RAMGeForce 3 64MBSB Audigy GamerCH Flight Yoke USBCH Pro Pedals USB

I' m rusty with my programming skills, but I am thinking of writing a small program that edits the map files automatically, so that we can have these charts in Fly2. Anyway, thanks for the file. Now I can speed up my learning of how the maps work in FLY.tony

Alejandro,Where did you get the approach plate?Jeff
