Flyhawk Autopilot Problems

Featured Replies

Hello All,I'm having some trouble with the Flyhawk autopilot. First, the "NAV" setting doesn't follow a heading smoothly when set- the plane continually makes radical corrections, rocking its wings 30 degrees one way, then 30 the other,to stay on course (as opposed to its behavior on "HDG" setting, where it tracks straight and true). Does anyone else experience this behavior? Also, I can't seem to get the keyboard commands for "HDG" and "NAV" to work, only for "Autopilot Enable". Is this a known bug?I'm fully patched, though I do fly on a MAC.Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!Best,Joel

I haven't used the Fly2 Flyhawk autopilot in quite a while and don't remember if it has any quirks. You may already know this, but the generally accepted procedure is to use heading mode to fly toward your desired VOR radial or localizer at no more than a 45 degree intercept angle (30 degrees is even better). Then, when the VOR CDE starts to swing, switch to NAV mode. It should smoothly turn to intercept the radial.I'm assuming the NAV source is a VOR or localizer, but it should work similarly if you're using GPS. At least it does in real life.Dan

Hello Joel,I am using a pc and I have exactly the same experience concerning the NAV (and GPS) following with the the C172. But as far as I remember, it only happens if you are using Rob Young's fix.It should be ok with the original Flyhawk.Actually I asked this question some time ago without success. Maybe this time???:-hmmm Rodger

I have tested quite a lot into this as I have never had problems with the stand alone Flyhawk on auto pilot, but with the fix I do. So I removed the fix.Used it with no problems for a week. Put the fix back again and nothing but problems when autopilot is engaged. So sadly now I dont use the fix.All The BestStevehttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.jpghttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theukLiverpool John Lennon Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=17455Blackpool Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=19103Hawarden (Chester) Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=18370Isle Of Man Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=18972

Hi guys,The autopilots are 'tuned' for specific aircraft with specific flight dynamics. If the aircraft flight dynamics are changed, then the gains in the autopilot will have to be changed (i.e. it will have to be retuned).Cheers,Matthew :-)
