Could you give me a critque of C4TO? I've been enjoying Fly 2K again after downloading the great Rob Young models, and wonder how well the C4TO add-ons work.R. Zachery P.G3 Desktop, (500 Sonnett), ATI Orion, 320 Megs, OS 9.1

Hey Zack,I've been thinking about dropping the Sonnet G3 or G4/500 in my old box to extend its life a couple of more years. How's it working for you?

The Sonnet upgrade was very easy. Just make sure you clean ALL the small bits of packing foam from the pin-grid-array . The processor has performed flawlessly. Noticeable speed jump from my old 266.R. Zackery P.

If you fly IFR, you'll LOVE C4TOIts very realistic, worth every second of the download! Not too sure about its VFR abilities though, and although you can create files of your own voice as the pilot or controller, it would require quite a bit of work.---John R. John:Perhaps this is a dumb question--but where in Fly 2K for the Mac is the "Sound" folder that is identified in the installation instructions for Flyscripts 1.2.1 ? R. Zachery P.

Zachery,I'm not John, but I can answer that question for you. The Sound folder you need to create yourself. You also need to create the Flyscripts! folder. Hope this helps, and good luck with Flyscripts! and C4TO.

WillyM is correct, you need to create those folders for yourself.By the way, thanks for the helpfull reply, WillyM... Work has been keeping me from getting to this forum lately---John R. SippyChicago, IL, USAPowerMacG4 -Dual 5001024MB RAMnVidiaGF2 - 32MB

John or WillyM--Thanks for the help so-far. I've followed all the install instructions and have the latest version of everything. When I get to step 7 of the "how to generate ATC" section of the instructions, I get stuck . The "fp.rio"file in the Flyscripts! folder cannot be selected when I try to Save Scenario as specified in step 7. The file is there but I can't select it. Any advice?R. When I use C4TO, I set up my flightplan, setup the aircraft, and setup the weather. Once done with all that I choose "Save Scenario As..." and then simply choose the Flyscripts folder as the destination and save the scenario as "fp" (Fly will put in the ".rio" for you).In other words, you should not have to actually click on, or otherwise select an existing fp.rio file---John R. I just thought I should emphasize something in case it wasn't made clear.DO NOT SAVE THE FILE AS FP.RIO, just save it as fp. If you set the filename to fp.rio, it will be saved as fp.rio.rio. So remember, save it only as fp. (Without the period)Good luck.

John and WillyM:Thanks to both of you. I'm havng fun again. I got discouraged waiting for Fly II to become reality, and the models for the baseline Fly2K were so bad that flying was impossible. So I got busy with other things. Anyway--finally downloaded all the Rob Young models for Fly2K and experienced an epiphany. Of course, being 63 years old, someone is going to take away my flying license soon!!!R. Zachery P.G3 DT (500 Sonnett)320 MegsATI Rage Orion OS 9.1

Hey Zack!I thought I was the senior citizen here! You beat me by 8 years! The "senior citizen" status didn't soak in until eldest daughter made me a grandpa last summer. That was quite a shock for a guy who still wonders what he's going to be when he grows up!!:DRegards,

Really glad to have helped out. Because I am running an nVidia GeForce 2MX I can not enjoy FlyII as of yet, but that's OK... Fly2K is running great for me and thanks to many outstanding sceneries, C4TO, and Rob (and a few others') planes I am having a blast with it.---John R. I changed the weather to check if C4TO changes active runway on ESPC. Nothing happened. I was told that it would change if the wind direction changes. Am I right? If so, what did I do wrong?Keep'em flyin'!Bertil PerssonESPC Fr

Bertil; Are you changing the weather mid-flight, or are you saving it under a new fp.rio and restarting? C4TO will not recognize anything that wasn't saved to the fp.rio file. Let me know.

I'll do a restart and check things out. Coming back with the result.Keep'em flyin'!Bertil PerssonESPC Fr

Restart did not work. I had to restart, escape, change weather, and save fp.rio, and RESUME(!). The same trick I use to force the real-weather file to load. Seems that restart blows the weather settings out as well as airplane load weight. That worked! Default active on ESPC is 13/31 in Fly! In real it is 12/30. 13/31 is a wartime rwy, in peacetime the road to the aiport terminal. When I loaded the ILS and NDB files made by Randall Rocke, the default atc changed from rwy 31 to 30, probably because he had to move the rwy objects a bit to make the ILS glideslope and NDB positions to fit. The real ILS is rwy 12.What I did was to pretend I heard rwy 12 instead of 13 that the ATC suggest after the wind adjustment. I was directed out to the gate whithout questions anyway.:-haloProblems solved, but not the way we thougt. Later I'll try a longer distance.Keep'em flyin'!Bertil PerssonESPC Fr

Bertil,Thanks for directing me to this thread - I've never been to this forum before. :-)You've got me wondering about Fly!'s ATC runway assignment - whenever I've edited the DB, it's been to resolve placement and component issues. I'll recheck the data fields, but I don't recall anything that was specific as to runway assignments.Enjoy C4TO! I believe that it's one of the finest freeware programs out there. It's true that C4TO isn't quite "smart enough" to know which parallel or close-to-parallel runway has an ILS, localizer, VOR, etc., but it does a great job of assigning in accordance to winds. Just do what you've done and shoot the approach to the appropriate runway - the vector will still be close enough to do the job.

Well, now it looks that i got the info to keep me going on. Thanks Randall for hopping in. Good to "hear" from you.For others who wants to try: Randall has done a good work, creating the ILS and NDB for ESPC for both 2K and and II. For Mac you need DBimport to create them.Keep'em flyin'!Bertil PerssonESPC Fr
