how to bypass the craming process

Hello can somebody tell me how I can bypass the craming process? Jak told us some months ago how you can texture the model with a custom made texture file so you can have more control over it! but how can you tell the editor you don't want to crame it? I have tried it without succes Cheers! :-outta
