1st pics from my trip... Museum of Flight

Featured Replies

Our pics are mostly back but it is going to take a while to sort through them. These are from the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d76aca2540c113a.jpgCurtis C-1 Robin... and above, are you paying attention Daniel, a Stearman PT-13A Kaydet... and high and to the left a Beech 18.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d76acce5482dc1e.jpgRyan M-1 being overflown by a great DC-3!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d76ad0654e6b305.jpgSR-71... 737... Notice the bottom window on the sideways Extra. (Oooops... guide says it is a Stephens Akro... sure looks like an Extra to me.) On that upper lever you walk to the right (South) and you can go out into that tower like deal on the side of the building that can be seen in FU3... great view of the field. That white thing high in the foreground is a U of W science project. Just under what is left of the 737 wing is a Aerocar III... I hope we have some better pics of it. Through those windows you can look at the end of 31L.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d76ad2a555c2ef7.jpgBoeing Model 80A-1. Higher left to right... the DC-3... Aeronica C-2... McAllister Yakima Clipper.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d76adca5684a7a9.jpgThis one didn't turn out very well but you can get an idea of the flavour of the place. I try to visit every time I'm up there.

Great shots Tom, thanks.I guess one of the toughest jobs in the world must be trying to get the visitors out of there at closing time. What a great collection of aircraft, just a pity they're all not flying.phil

Phil,That isn't by any means all of the planes they have. You can see about half in the main gallery. They also have a bunch in the "Red Barn"... the original Boeing Plant #1 moved to this site by barge from Mercer Island in Lake Union. (Plant #2 is just across the highway and can also be seen clearly in FU3.) There are also some outside including the first 707 based Air Force 1 which you can walk through and a great B-29."I guess one of the toughest jobs in the world must be trying to get the visitors out of there at closing time."Just as we were getting ready to leave they were setting up to hold a wedding in the Red Barn... go firgure. :-hmmm

Wow, Tom!You are one lucky camper... I'd never want to leave either! If I ever get to Seattle, that's where I'm going first :-)Thanks for sharing the shots with us. Can't wait for more.Jon Point*************************([email protected])*************************

Cool shots, Tom, thank you.I can't believe I was in Seattle two or three times and didn't go to that museum. I did make it to Kenmore Air Harbor, though, which was pretty cool seeing how it has a whole bunch of Beavers. :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

Nice pics, Tom. That's a great museum. Did you hop into that little jet in the bottom of pic #4 (just left of center). It's really tiny inside. Cute.I didn't get a chance to go to the Red Barn. Do you have pics in there?Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums Moderator

http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/logo75.gifBush Flying Unlimited"At home in the wild"Looking for adventure? Peter,"Did you hop into that little jet in the bottom of pic #4"Naw... too many 10 year olds around. (Dern it!) On previous visits I have been in the F/A-18 & SR-71 cockpits... including before the F/A-18 cockpit was cut from the plane."I didn't get a chance to go to the Red Barn. Do you have pics in there?"1st I take it you have been there. The entrance to the Red Barn is just behind the ticket desk and to the right... just across from the store. And no, not this trip... I'll look and see if I have any from earlier trips.

Bob,Well sir... it isn't too late. Go into FU3... quick flight... go to Boeing Field 31L... check your left-front view... there it be! ;-)

Yes, I've been there once a few years ago for a Microwings conference. There were no 10-year olds around so I hopped into the little jet. I couldn't resist. :-lol It fits like a glove but I don't know how you keep your head inside the cockpit.Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums Moderator
