Ranger Creek again

Recommended Posts

I just parked one of Jon's Twin Otters at Ranger Creek. While I was at it I moved a few trees away from the runway and went flying. I'm having serious problems at this airfield with most aircraft. This one didn't work at all:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61689.jpgSeriously, even the Cessna is a handful here. If I take off towards the south it's very exciting to check whether I'll be able to clear the hills. It's easier to taxi down the runway, turn around and take off towards the north. Landings are quite tricky from either direction. What kind of aircraft does this strip serve in real life? Also, what kind of aircraft do you guys manage to take to and from Ranger Creek in FU III? I'm using Chris Low's package.best regards,Hans Petter

Hans,Ranger Creek is a bit of a nightmare at the moment on my PC. The framerate drops to around 5 frames per second on final approach to runway 33....which makes handling somewhat difficult. I successfully landed Ansgar's "transparent" Baron there when I last visited, but it wasn't exactly a pleasnat experience :-eekI really must get a better PC ;-)Chris Low.

Ranger Creek is indeed a squeeze! In real life, the strip apparently has little traffic and we're really talking small planes here. From the photo I have:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61860.jpgthe edges are well defined but there are trees in the approach path. My guess is that they are small. The DHC-6 does get in there but resist the temptation to land quickly - there's nothing wrong with losing speed over the runway then dropping onto it. There ain't a hope in hades of fitting in to many strips on a 3 degree approach ;) As for climb-out, just climb to ~250ftAGL and turn left - again, resist the temptation to climb over the mountains! With a few less trees in the way, I've used the DC3 from Ranger, although landing is interesting!Or, like Hans-Petter, try the 747 for real excitement :-lol:-wave******************* Jonathan Point *******************

Yes, its a real squeeze!Adams did a Black Box landing at Ranger Creek in the Beech jetat knight!I was very impresed with his flying!Perhaps the Black Box is stil there on his sight? But if you play it with anything other than the original Ranger Creek package, then it sort of rooins the Black Box, cus you crashthrow trees that whernt there at the time.I only use the difalt Ranger Creek package, not just for the abuvreason, but I also need the room. I only use the difalt package for Skykomish State as well, bicousone of the flight training lesons for the stemme is there and itsdistracting if the Black Box crashes thouw trees that wher not there when the vidiow was dun.Evan after all this time I stil wach the lesons now and agen. glidernut.

Hans.I,m not sure why your having a problem with the King Air at Ranger Creek. That is a nice handling plane and it will do a short field landing very nicely.Notice in my pics the speed and also that I'm landinging on runway 15http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/61888.jpgPicture 2 just a bit closer, I,m dropping in hard, I used the gear to help bleed the speed off.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/61889.jpgOn the runway see the truck on the right hand sidehttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/61890.jpgI can get the King Air Stopped before the truck crosses the runwayhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/61891.jpgHave Fun :-jumpyAllan and Puppyhttp://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

Hi Allan (and Holly says hi to Puppy...),The old King Dome got blown up a few years ago... you might not have much luck landing on the new roof.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61902.jpgThat brace thingie looks a little painful! :-eekhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61903.jpgI picked up this new toy this morning... it kinda makes MS's B350 King look a little tacky by comparison. ;-)And one for Puppy...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61904.jpgThis is Holly next to my computer desk... she is a very sweet girl... at least in her own humble opinion. :-lol

Hi back Tom.Yes I remember when they blew the dome up or down, March of 2000 I think. I read some of the controversey surrounding that. I understand most of the folks in Seattle weren't very happy about the Dome, troubles from the time it was built on a bad site, poor soil support, cost overuns and bad contracting, then only 30 years later blown down and replaced.Seems I read somewhere they still owe over 200 mil on it and it's long gone. I guess I'd be upset a bit my self. Oh well, I can't land on any of the neat things in FS, as you well know most objects are soft, easy on the frame rates but impossible to land on, Nice looking Plane you have there, Sharp! Give Holly a doggie treat from usHave a fun week :-xxrotflmaoAllan and Puppyhttp://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

How about some good pics/drawings of the new arena so we may upgate Seattle? It could easily be incorporated into the next modelmip.tag upgrade.:-wave******************* Jonathan Point *******************

Whoops, looks like Chris tried the dome landing one too many times :-lolhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/62127.jpgSo, this is what it SHOULD look like (before the next 'landing'...)?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/62130.jpgA model (!!?!) Still couldn't find any good drawings though :-(http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/62129.jpg******************* Jonathan Point *******************

Jonathan.I thank you for your work to make FU3 better. If you change the ball park roof I'll maybe need to land on something like this, it's a lot smaller target :-hmmmhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/62135.jpgOr if I need to land inside the ball park please keep the sides low for me :-lolhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/62137.jpgI have to come clean with you though. I've posted some fantastic hard landings over the years like this one with the SR71.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/62136.jpgBut I have to admit that I built a longer deck first :-lolhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/62138.jpgHave a Fun week :-waveAllan and Puppyhttp://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

Allan,That looks more like a sea-going highway than an aircraft carrier :-lol . With a 145kt stall and a 200kt approach, you'd need all the space you could get - chute or no chute! That said, you can land the (upcoming) DHC-6 at Kapowsin, stop, restart and takeoff with a few feet to spare! I expect some new 'multi' landing records now ;):-wave******************* Jonathan Point *******************
