Cessna SkyHawk landings

Recommended Posts

I downloaded HvR C182 from AVSIM Library. It's interesting that I can't land that aircraft in proper way. I found out it is very hard land with the main gear touching down first. Also when applying flaps C182 nose is going down and when landing at 55-65 kts perfect landing just can't be completed because at that speed nose hits the ground first. If I try to pitch the nose up the whole aircraft goes up and starts to climb. I've also tried original C182 from FU3 and the same thing happened there. I've searched the web about C182 landing procedures and I discovered that I'm not doing anything wrong. Also I've searched airliners.net for Cessna C182 landing / touching down and on the pictures you can clearly see that the main gear are touching down first.I've preformed like 50 landings and I've never managed to hit the ground perfectly well (with the main gear first). In most ways I was hitting ground with the front gear first or with all three wheels at the same time. I've noticed that it's easier to hit the ground with the main gear first without applying any flaps but then its kind of hard to controll the speed and hold it at about 60 kts. Does C182 have some problems in FU3 because I think that those touch downs are not realisic or its just me?

I just tried it and I made fairly nice landings. However, 55 - 65 kts is very close to the stall limit for the FU3 C182. I've tended to land it at 60 - 80 kts, which may be a tad too fast for the real one. In any event, 55 kts is doable but it's on the verge of stalling. This explains the very critical pitch response. I made all right landings touching down on the mains at about 58 kts but the stall horn was screaming as I flared. In other words, I had no margins and had to flare at the exact right time -- flaring too early would have stalled the plane above the runway and flaring too late would have resulted in a nose strike. You seem to have been flaring a bit too late. In any event, it's not safe to land this aircraft stalled and the FU3 model will behave much better if you aim for 60 - 70 kts rather than 50 - 60 kts.Hans Petter

Thanks for answering Hans.I've also noticed that its easier to land it in proper way at the bit higher speed like 70 kts. A bit unrealistic because in landing procedures for C172/182 is clearly stated that with the flaps down(full) Cessna should land even at 55 kts without stall warning screaming. I guess that this is just another smaller problem with FU3.On the other hand Lake Renegade Turbo is landing at 60-65 knots with no problem and prefectly smooth and easy.CheersDubravko Stjepan Sikac

Dubravko. You should not have a problem landing Tom's Skyhawk within your FU3 game, That's one of the best flying Airplanes that is availible for FU3 If your trying to land on the Dome just remember to hit the Dome at the second level down from the top and at your slowest possible stall speed and then apply brakes for just a second, quickly remove the flaps while your going up the first part of the dome. (you have to have the plane uncapable of flying when you reach the small area at the top of the Dome)If you do that correctly you could end up at the top, like this.I have never seen anyone else do this, but it really is good practice.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/96573.jpgIf your trying to land on the ball park roof south of the dome then I suggest you tighten up and pay attention, but if you can do that you'll end up with the best seat in the stadium like this.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/96574.jpgIf you'd like to try landing on one the ships located around Seattle harbour try it. That's also lot's of fun, You have to pay attention.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/96575.jpgIf you'd like to fly the beautiful King Air built by Daniel that's also lot's of fun within FU3.Give this a try on the Tacoma bridgehttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/96579.jpg.I'm sure none of these landings are something any of us would try with a real Plane. Hopefully we all remember this is a game :-lol Fun :-vuurAllan and PuppyBush Flying Unlimitedhttp://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

Hi John.I thought that might be one of my pics until I looked at it for a second :-lol.Good job Glidernut. I'll bet that was hard on your landing gear :-lolWhen ever I do that flight recording, switch planes thing, I can land the 747 on it but it always breaks the gear off. even if I shut off the no breakage option?I hope things are going well for you and your family John.Take careHave Fun :-vuurAllan and PuppyBush Flying Unlimitedhttp://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif
