Bandera fix

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,For those of you with BIN file sets for Seattle, I've almost finished the Bandera update. To those of you not familiar with it, Bandera has always been on the wrong side of the valley!!! LGS edited the maps for some bizarre reason. Since my workload has diminished a small amount, I thought it was time to try fixing it. Now that we can use binfiles for ground textures, these are easily edited and recompiled to correct whatever features we want. The BIN conversion process generates a complete set of TGA files which may be edited any time and reinserted into FU3. To those of you considering doing the binfile conversion, this may help you to decide. ;)BTW, my previous comments regarding night lighting were untrue - it does indeed work fine with binfiles - I just had my settings mixed-up ;)The corrected scenery is based on Google Earth images and a couple of trail maps I found.First, old Bandera looking East:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182468.jpgNew Bandera looking East:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182469.jpgOld Bandera looking West:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182470.jpgNew Bandera looking West:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182471.jpgNew Bandera - parking spots:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182472.jpgShould be uploaded in the next few days :-waveRegards,Jon Point

Thanks Jon, Bandera is a really nice place :-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182513.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182514.jpgIn the real world as you can see on Google pictures there are just much more trees and traffic on the highway but real world does not care on frame rate problems :-) With the new elevation Bandera mountain looks very near to reality - compare with Google Earth ! :-waveAndre

Comparing the images it seems that you've moved the airport on top of that "cloverleaf" texture. Is that texture pattern caused by the "footprint" of the real airport? By the same token, what is that major light brown line that runs through the valley? It looks like a dry river bed (sand/pebbles). I assume it's too wide to be a dirt road :-)Hans Petter

H-P,Well yes, the strip is somewhere over where the cloverleaf was. That particular cloverleaf was copied by LGS from further up the valley and placed there, over the real scenery. Must've been a glitch in the satellite photos...The cloverleaf is back, this time for real. You can drive on it, or in this case, off it!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182589.jpgEven has signs so you can't miss the turn from either direction :-lolhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182590.jpgThe major brown line is actually the highway. In the accompanying shots, you can see how I repainted it back to off-white concrete ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182591.jpgWhilst I was painting, I removed the over-textured runway models and textured the ground instead. Even looks like half-dead grass...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182592.jpgThe strip is now where it should be, so is the road, so is the river. Due to the dense forest along the river, it didn't show up well in the terrain, so I dug-out about 2-3km of it, as you can see in the 3rd and 5th shots. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182593.jpgIt drops over 30m from just East of the strip, to the washout to the West. If it had water in it, you could kayak down it. Probably ;)This ground painting is kinda fun. Makes a change from just rearranging models on the surface, when you can edit the elevation AND the ground textures as well. Now I've finished experimenting, I suppose I should upload it ;)Regards,Jon Point

Folks,As promised, I have uploaded the Bandera fix for those of you with BIN-modified Seattle regions. I recommend installing the "Seattle 2008" update before installing the Bandera fix.NOTE: You must have done the BIN file update before installing the Bandera fix!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182671.jpgEnjoy :-waveRegards,Jon Point
