Flight 1 Cessna 421 Performance

Recommended Posts

Guest

Experiencing some C421 performance issues. On climb above 5000 performance deteriorates. At max power 39" manifold and props maxed producing about 2200 RPM. 500+ FPM airspeed below 100 kts. Initial planned FL230. Now level at 8000. 105 IAS, GS 122. Unable higher. Takeoff weight was about 7000 pounds. I've tried with and without FS Meteo as sometimes that will produce some goofy results. I must be doin somethin wrong.

I don't have the 421, but I think you need to pull back on the mixture in order to get higher RPMs. However, don't pull back too much.

You do have to start leaning the mixture as you climb past about 5000ft. Keep doing this as you climb to maintain a max RPM.Pat Callaghan

An outstanding product. But maybe they could post a 'tutorial' flight to help us prop rookies learn more about the plane, flight planner, avionics etc.Just an idea...

Fuel leaning is very important, especially in higher output piston engines both IRL and in FS.The fuel mixture tables Microsoft use don't really seem to work as they do IRL. MS seem to consider them to be more like a tap than a progressive mixture control. By now you've probably also found - since your original posting - that the C421 does not behave "the MS way". The C421 does not use their default fuel tables and as a result the fuel mixture leaning effect is far more progressive ...Best,
