June 10, 200223 yr >Thanks for those sites Chris. >>What I'm not sure of is whether the "Global" setting gives >the weather at the departure airport and changes the weather >to the actual conditions along the route. >>If that's the case what's the point of the "Local" setting? >>Or is "Local" just for the details in the "Advanced" window? >>Regards............Cliff I thought that the Global setting changed the weather conditions so that they would be the same all over the world - the Local settings change enroute. That is to say, they don't get "updated" along the way, but when you download Local, it downloads the weather over the whole world, and so it will change as you enter different weather reporting areas.- Martin My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
June 10, 200223 yr Cliff,You might also have a look at FSMeteo. For those of us who love weather in FS this is an indispensable program, and very reasonably priced and well supported. Basically it downloads weather every 6 minutes (it can be set as to frequency) so that you don't fly to a place that doesn't have accurate weather. It's so good that I use it to predict what weather we're going to have by taking a short 10 minute flight to the west (our weather comes from that direction). I was able to predict a snowstorm in the desert in late May by doing this (and impressed my friends greatly).
June 11, 200223 yr After all the rhetoric regarding this subject, it looks like the only thing we can all agree upon is that we don't know for sure which does what. As soon as I take care of some other project loose ends, I intend to find out. There are many online sites that show you the weather at any moment at any given location. I will download or access one of these and, comparing against both "Global Weather" and "Local Weather" see what pans out; both at take-off time and again somewhere else after an hour of flying. As soon as i know something, I'll get back with you all on it.Sincerely,Bad Weather Heather
