ai traffic / my traffic / fsaom etc

Featured Replies

Folks, I will soon be moving to FS2002 from FS2K and have already purchased RC V3. I understand that setting up AI traffic in FS2K2 is complex and time consuming. There are several "packages" out there that simplify setting up AI traffic. Could any one recommend which package I should buy: eg: My Traffic, FS Addon Manager for FS2002, other AI Flight plan packages. Many thanks in advance!

One of the most popular ones is Project AI (or PAI) - their site:http://www.projectai.comIt's free, and they already have a lot of airline packages listed officially by them. More and more are added as they make them. These complete packages require no editing by the user and will fill your airports nicely. If you really really really want lots more traffic, there is a unofficial area with even more airline packages, schedules, and repaints, which can be edited manually and added. While they require a bit of time to install manually, I think there's a big misconception that they take a LOT of time and requires a lot of editing etc. After a while you get used to it and understand how it all works, and you realise it's not that time consuming at all. And with editing software becoming more advanced, it's worthwhile.Subs

HiI have found the auto-installers from ProjectAi http://www.projectai.com/ to be fairly easy to start you off with. I haven't had any experience of adding flightplans manually as these do the hard work for you. AITM is handy to have (AI Traffic Mover) which you should be able to find on Avsim, if only to check you have all the necessary bits and pieces in the right place and you can look at the timetables in it, and you will also need AFCAD to make some more gates available to use. Again this isn't something I have had to muck about with as you can find afcad files for practically all major airports and just import them. If you want to make your own plans etc I suggest you read the forums on Avsim and at ProjectAiCheersJohn

:) snap, Subs, just finished my post and you've said the same, great minds think alike huh?John

Many thanks for your advice! I'll try it out. All the best.

>I understand that setting up AI traffic in >FS2K2 is complex and time consuming. It certainly can be. I found the learning curve to be pretty steep, though I eventually ended up with something I'm reasonably satisfied with. The first ai traffic I tried was the PAI flight plans and planes. While the concept is a good one, I found the implementation to be somewhat lacking. There was important information missing from the installation instructions. After installation the aircraft.cfg files required some manual updating, which was a pain in the a**. However, PAI is working on a completely new installation procedure which may address these problems; it's supposed to be released by Christmas. The other problem I had with PAI is that it created TOO much ai traffic on the ground. Even though I would add scads of gates to an airport(using AFCAD), there would still be too many ai aircraft competing for gates. The result was that I would get way too many of some airlines and none of some others. The cause of this has to do with how the flight plans are constructed, and it would have been way too much trouble to try and fix it.I ended up trying MyTraffic, which is what I'm using now. MyTraffic actually uses the PAI aircraft, which it licenses from them. It's important to understand that MyTraffic is primarily a random traffic generator that does a reasonable job of simulating which airlines you would see at which airports. The schedules it generates are NOT based on real airline timetables as PAI and some others are. On the other hand, MyTraffic does offer options for determining how the traffic is generated. You can define a particular airport as a hub for particular airlines, so you'll see, say, noticably more Alaska Airlines planes at KSEA. You can also exclude an airline from an airport(s) so it never shows up there. The program also distinguishes between domestic and international airlines. The results are, I think, pretty good.MyTraffic also offers an editor (seperate program, additional cost) that lets you import existing flight plans (like the PAI plans) or create your own. However, I found it very difficult to use and gave up on it. I already have AOM, so I use that if I want to import something.Hope this is helpful. Good luck. :)Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Pilot--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html

Great job with your website. I'd love to get a copy of your KPDX scenery some day.Out of curiosity, is Horizon hiring these days or has movement come to a halt? What kind of hours are competitive now?

Thanks! The KPDX scenery will be up soon...it's actually done but I haven't gotten around to uploading any of the scenery yet. All my scenery is created for Lago's FSSE...if you don't have it you won't be able to see it.I don't work for Horizon (I guess I should state that on my site), so I don't know how they're doing financially. If I recall correctly, Alaska/Horizon has typically been more profitable than most of the airlines. I know that Horizon has been adding cities to it's schedule, so maybe that means they're doing well.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Pilot--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html

What kind of hours are competitive >now? As we expand, there will be the need for pilots. We are still here and going strong. No pilots on furlough and none planned. With the flood of the market at this time, while the minimums to apply are the same, the hours that are showing up are tremendous! It is not a good indicator when pilots with over 3 or 4,000 hours are lining up at the door. There is really no artition at this time to speak of.Keith Chvatal
