December 10, 200223 yr I have finally gotten RCv3 to work properly by updating my sound drivers for the SoundBlaster Live! Value card. I had to download the latest drivers direct from Creative Labs. I was previously using the drivers that WinXP Pro provided. Since the update performance has improved tremendously even without RCv3 running. I can't believe that how smooth FS2k2 is with the new sound drivers. Now everything sounds great and the controllers no longer speak slowly. I was suffering from extremely slow controller voices and extreme clipping. Now it is really smooth.I have noticed that when the clouds appear I get light clipping that gradually increases to extreme clipping. I have toned down the cloud density for now and will see if that helps. During this period I also notice that the controller voices start to slow just a little as well. The batch settings for "low priority" for FS2k2 and "realtime" for RCv3 actually made things worse for me. Here are my system specs:Windows XP Pro w/SP1Intel 1.6GHz PIV786mb RAMSoundBlaster Live! December 10, 200223 yr kjackson,I find this computer world quite amazing. I downloaded the latest Soundblaster Drivers also from Creative for my Audigy Gamer. There was no improvement at all for me with Radar Contact. Setting different CPU priorities was the only thing I found that worked. It seems that these problems are related to individual systems and what "fixes" them can vary widely from one system to the next. Glad to hear you got relief from your new drivers,Bob, Rogers, Arkansas
December 10, 200223 yr Strange Indeed:I also have the soundblaster Live! Value card. I am using the creative drivers that were released sometime in February. I downloaded the latest ones as well (before I got RCV3) and installed them. They added some more functionality (ability to use the digital output not) but I was getting constant "crackling" sounds when running FS. Frame rates were the same.....but the Crackling was really annoying. I uninstalled them and went back to the previous ones and I have no problems. I just cannot use the digital output anymore...but I can live with that.In any event, setting the priority to "real time" was the only way to get RC to improve.A7V333 with two 40Gig drives set up as a single stripe 80Gig with the RAID feature, 512MB PC2700 RAM,Gforce4 Ti4600 from PNY, (with the 30.82 drivers...the later and latest ones degrades performance....I cant figure out why!!)Sound Blaster Live! Value (I also use the onboard sound card for Roger Wilco comms. when flying on Vatsim), AMD Athlon XP 2200+, WinXP Pro. with Service Pack 1 installed.Lagaz
December 10, 200223 yr Author Lagaz, Bob, I think you're right about varying results on different systems. I'm glad that the priority settings are working for you. I think I will go back and try that again. The clipping and crackling is really anoying. On a long flight last night the clipping took care of itself about halfway into the flight. I can't figure out what is happening here. I don't have the older sound files to go back to so I'm sort of stuck where I'm at. But all-in-all when RCv3 is running at its best then it's really thing of beauty. Much better than FSATC for sure. I can't wait until we all lick this problem once and for all.Have fun flying! ________________________________ Ken B. Jackson - KSAT Private Pilot - SEL San Antonio, Texas
December 10, 200223 yr Author Has anyone tried different video settings yet in relation to system resource use. ________________________________ Ken B. Jackson - KSAT Private Pilot - SEL San Antonio, Texas
December 11, 200223 yr Yes, I tried every imaginable combination going all the way down to absolute minimums, absolute minimum resolution etc etc. I was able to lower CPU useage in FS2002 by doing so but not enough to make an impact to run Radar Contact well. And, I had almost no picture to look at as well. No fun. Bob, Rogers, Arkansas
December 11, 200223 yr Author Hey Bob, what are the system specs of your PC?Also, make sure that anisotropic filtering is turned off and try setting the antialiasing to as low as possible. This has made a big difference for me once I loaded the proper sound card drivers. Now RCv3 runs smoothly even in heavy clouds.Regards, ________________________________ Ken B.
