AI and RC 3.0

Featured Replies

I have tried using both the ATC of Fs2002 and RC 3.0...I try to land at KLAS but it turned into big problem....FS2002 ATC told me I was number 4 and RC ATC told me clear to land. Why didn't the RC 3.0 ATC see the planes on final? I wish you guys could figure a way to control the AI traffic too. This would make the program outstanding not saying it isn't terrific now. I just find it very confusing using two ATCs at the same time. I am a real pilot and if I had to use two ATCs for landing and takeoff, I would be behind my plane on landing and takeoff.David AlbrightFAA Flight dispatcherSingle and Mult-engine rated pilot500 hours Real PIC2000 hours Sim PICSim Test Pilot

your first sentence is the question I believe. This is completetly discussed and answered in the manual.

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

Try just monitoring FSATC on Comm 2 to listen in but don't contact the controllers. You only want instructions from RC. Doing what you described would drive me looney! lolRob

In the manual it states to contact FSATC when making a landing and than RC ATC.12. As I get within about 100 miles of KCVG I manually tune the KCVG ATIS onComm2. When I am within range FSATC will play the CVG ATIS giving currentweather and active runway.13. After being handed off to arrival RC will issue vectors to the ILS final approachcourse for the runway most aligned into the wind. If it is the same runway FSATC isusing you can keep it or change it as you desire. When I get closer to KCVG I willselect KCVG on the FSATC menu and request to land. FSATC will tell me to enterthe pattern for the active and clear me to land when I am about six miles out. RC willalso clear me to land after I am transferred to the tower.14. After clearing the active runway I contact FSATC ground and receive progressive taxito a gate. RC will also issue a gate assignment, but this you can choose to ignore, andsimply get your RC flight Critique, which I am sure will start with "Congratulations".David AlbrightFAA Flight dispatcherSingle and Mult-engine rated pilot500 hours Real PIC2000 hours Sim PICSim Test Pilot

If I may - nowhere in the paras you quoted does it state that the FSATC should be contacted. In fact if you look back to para 11 you will see that FSATC is now only to be used to listen to chatter.Actually my real purpose here is to say that the joint use as laid down in the manual is a superb added extra. Personally I don't get a lot out of 'canned chatter'. The ability to be able to listen to the more purposeful FSATC chatter is marvellous.Bud

Hey Bud. Thanks for the comments. I wrote that portion of the manual. Like you, I listen to fsatc, and at my choice I either go with the flow, or against it, watching carefully at the intersections. I do like to know what fsatc is doing. Being a controller and a pilot I love RC and I am proud to be a member of this great team that we have. :-lolLarry

Larry, If I may say so sir you did a great job. Actually I read some views on one of the other sites about problems with AI traffic. In fact if you use this joint facility in RC appropriately many of these difficulties can be overcome. I suspect it will be a little while before we all become really familiar with each of the added goodies of vers. 3 but it is rewarding to persevere and learn.Bud

I'm a bit puzzeled whether there's any interaction between AI planes or not at the airport. Today, on final, i heard there was an AI plane going to land when i was to, but i never saw it. On the ground i have now twice noticed planes waiting for me - even being announced that they had to wait for me until i had turned off the runway. Landing in KIAH the other day, there were planes landing at another runway - right after each other, with only a few meters between each other. They were crossing my glideslope, so teoretically, i should have flown right into one of them - but there were a break, when i passed.. So maybe one don't have to wonder that much - or perhaps i has just been "lucky"???

Hi Lars,FSATC knows where you are and will direct AI ground traffic to wait for you, and will even them hold them clear of the runway when it is your turn for take-off if you have requested clearance forom them. However, FSATC does not control traffic in the air, it is more like an advisory service. There is no sequencing and thus you can see planes almost landing on top of each other. Also, if there is no gate available, they will quickly disappear upon touchdown. Hope this helps...Larry

It does, Larry - thank's..Now - i couldn't imagine other than just listening to the MS ATC chatter. When it comes to the more "serious" part of it - i will only listen to what's said in RC, otherwise i will get dizzy... :-lol
