Bug Report: Missed hitting a waypoint

Featured Replies

I'm currently flying CYYC-KDFW and my initial waypoints were YYC and DARWN.I departed rwy 16 and thus heading towards DARWN and away from YYC. RC3 didn't pick up the fact that I don't need to go back to YYC to continue my flightplan. I requested direct DARWN, but was told to ask again later and queried why I was off my flightplan and to change heading to 360 to head back to YYC (20nm from present position).I think the correct behaviour would have been to mark YYC as being visited after takeoff once it was noticed I was getting further away from YYC and closer to DARWN.-- Scotte

Hi there,They are a hard bunch those RC controllers but - if you file it, they expect you to fly it ;-)All the best,John

Scotte,This isn't a bug. It's pilot error. ;-) As John says, if you file it, you fly it.When planning a flight, don't put a waypoint so close to the airport that you can't make it. YYC is so close to the CYYC airport as to be almost impossible to hit. Make the plan so you have a transition to the airway further out.

>I think the correct behaviour would have been to mark YYC as >being visited after takeoff once it was noticed I was >getting further away from YYC and closer to DARWN. If you're getting further from a waypoint rather than closer, how does RC know that you're doing so deliberately rather than by mistake? It's a computer program, son, not a mind reader. :)Keep in mind that if you include any waypoints within a 30 mile radius of the departure airport, RC will assume that you're flying a DP. You will be expected to cross each DP waypoint UNLESS you use the "flex dp" function, in which case you can fly wherever you want as long as you end up back on course for your first non-DP waypoint. This is all explained in the manual.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Flights--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html

Sid,One is still expected to cross every waypoint in the plan, even with Flex DP checked, regardless of whether or not the waypoints are <30 nm's from the airport. The point of Flex DP is so you can have only one common waypoint for multiple DP's in the plan, and not have to have plans for every possible DP.

Thanks for the feedback all!Consider the bug report closed. I won't include the close-in waypoints in my flight plans.-- Scotte
