January 11, 200323 yr Hi all,Just got RCV3 installed it, setting up my first flight plan via Nav 3 from EGLL TO EGNT I have not used the offered SID/STARS in Nav as i fly the PSS Airbus which has lots of S/S in the FMC. Question can i choose one of these and fly it then will RCV3 take over the ATC at the end of the SID ? Any help welcome waiting to start at the Ramp!CheersRB211
January 11, 200323 yr RB211,One of the real concerns has been how to use onboard FMC SID/STARS in the PSS or PIC planes. RC is going to have ATC control from takeoff to landing via your flight plan. If the first waypoint that is filled in the flight plan is further than about 60 miles, RC will direct you to that waypoint after takeoff. The problem is if the SID has waypoints that are off that course, RC has no way to know that.In my case, I fly the PIC767 and I utilize many SID/STAR's via my FSNav 4.5 flight planning. That also match the SID/STAR's that are loaded in the FMC which I don't use. On occations I have invoked a STAR on approach that was in the PIC767 FMC, but I get double entries and windup spending a lot of time cleaning my legs out. Unless I am going to fly a IAP, RC is going to vector anyway for approaches. You have raised a very good technical point, in real life, ATC would vector you anyway due to traffic, weather or some other condiditons. I find that for ease of flying SID/STARS just put them into your flight plan.CheersBob Johnson
January 11, 200323 yr ...i fly the PSS Airbus which has lots of S/S in the FMC. Question can i choose one of these and fly it then will RCV3 take over the ATC at the end of the SID ?Yes. All you need to do is make sure the option "Flexible Dep Proc" is ticked on the 'Controller Options' page. This will allow the Airbus FMGC to fly the SID without interference then pick up ATC at your first flight plan waypoint (which should be WELIN).If you want to do this properly, make sure your flight plan reads: EGLL WELIN TNT POL GASKO TILNI NEW EGNT. You can then select the appropriate SID - a BUZAD or a WOBUN depending on which runway you use - the FMGC will show you which is available when you input your departure runway. To get the RC3 controllers to use the correct UK altitudes/flight levels, go to the 'Controller Info' page and set the 'Departure Trans Level' to 70, and the 'Center' and Arrival' levels both to 40. I know this may sound a little odd but that's what is required (the manual is incorrect!) To keep with real-world practice, and regardless of what the FMGC tells you, file FL260 as your cruising level.Incidentally, ending the flight with a VOR on or close to the field allows RC3 to give you holds so, as this is your first flight, I suggest you make sure the 'Holding' slider on the 'Options' page is set to 0%.Welcome to RCv3PeteP
January 12, 200323 yr Just one point of clarification from my previous post, RB211 - what a splendid name!I said that with Flex DP checked, you'd be allowed to fly the SID "without interference". Just to make this clear, you will be allowed to fly the lateral aspects of the SID but you'll be given climb above any altitude constraints. This accords with real-world practice at London where aircraft are climbed above the SID altitudes at the earliest opportunity.Pete
January 13, 200323 yr Pete, thanks for your invalid help, will go away and practice Iam a old veteran of Proflight so this is slightly different. I have already requested Doug to look into more UK airspace controllers for extra realism so hopefully this will come out in the next version, although i believe Hermit, is doing some recordings according to his web site. Once again thanksRB211 AKA Mark
January 13, 200323 yr I have already requested Doug to look into more UK airspace controllers for extra realism so hopefully this will come out in the next version, although i believe Hermit, is doing some recordings according to his web site.Good for you - the more people who request something, the more chance there is of it appearing in future versions. Unfortunately, though, it'll take a lot more than just getting non-Americans to record as controllers to make it realistic outside the US. The scripts will have to be substantially re-written - any UK controller who used the current RC3 phraseology would be very quickly told to pack up his headset and seek employment elsewhere! :-lolPersonally, I doubt there would ever be a specifically UK version - just too different from the US version and too small a user-base to make it worthwhile - but, I guess, a "standard ICAO" version for use outside the US might be a realistic proposition. It just depends where Doug and jd want to take it - and how much extra work they think it's worth doing on it.All the bestPete
