February 15, 200323 yr I am using RC3.01 in the "Realtime" mode and it is a great addition to FS2002. A couple of items are not very realistic however. On jet aircraft during climb when passing though 10,000 ft, one has to lower the nose to pick up speed. The controller is too quick to criticize altitude control. On jet aircraft during descent, again the controller is too quick to criticize speed control. It takes time to slow a big aircraft especially during descent even when deploying the speed brake.Something that is realistic in the real world are long periods of holding short of the runway before takeoff. Waiting two minutes in a game is frustrating.RichR
February 16, 200323 yr Rich,It's odd you are having problems. I fly real-world airliner and biz jet procedures, and my air files are pretty good, so the aircraft do fly about right. I don't get the altitude bust or speed bust problems you describe. It's a matter of knowing the aircraft, and what is needed to control these within the controllers expectations.I would just say, try tuning your flight skill a bit and experiment and see what you can do - especially on climb-out. RC only gives you an altitude bust if you are climbing slower than 100 fpm. A Cessna 172 can climb at 400-700 fpm.As for holding short, I take that time to ensure my aircraft is correctly configured for take-off and radios are set, and whatever else I need is done. I don't get very much time when holding short. It can go fast.Good luck at let us know how it's going.
February 16, 200323 yr Moderator Hi Rich,If you use a package like the 767PIC with a full MCP including Flight Level Change then increasing the speed will automatically lower the nose of the aircraft until the chosen speed is attained. Unfortunately, the default FS autopilot isn't as good so some manual control is required. On descent when you are given PD to a lower altitude engage idle thrust manually and you should get a decent rate of descent providing the fuel load is correct. It's essential to forward plan with large aircraft to get the speed down before you get told off. Practice will allow you to perfect the correct speed on approach and finals. What aircraft are you using?Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England).
