July 6, 200322 yr Hi As I was working through tutorial 1 of RCv3 as I tried to intercept the localiser and glideslope for KORD- Chicago -o-hare runway 4L using FS2002 there seems to be a localiser fine but no glideslope, so I ended up remaining at 4500ft and couldn't see how to get down. I then tried runway 4R and it has both needles in FS2002. I also tried runway 32 and it was fine, it seems there is no glideslope needle for runway 4L which RCv3 controller asked me to land at. I know its a FS2002 problem but could you check it out for me and let me know if you get a glideslope needle with runway 4L. I tried intercepting at 5 miles, 20miles even 2 miles out but no luck only the localiser needle to get me on track but no glideslope needle to let me see how to get down. Your help would be much appreciated.regardsstuart;-)
July 6, 200322 yr Stuart,You didn't get any glideslope indications for 04L because there isn't one! :-)Referencing the approach plates for KORD there is a full ILS to 04R but 04L is localizer only, which makes it a non-precision approach. The final approach fix (FAF) is located at LAPPS at an altitude of 2400'. The minimums, providing you are able to identify RACCY intersection, are 401 / 1 1/4 for straight in category C aircraft. If unable to identify RACCY the mins go up to 601 / 1 3/4.Give that approach another shot as localizer only and I think you'll be fine.Mike CollierDispatcher/SOCAmerica West Airlines
July 6, 200322 yr Stuart,Rwy 4L at ORD is primarily a departure runway. It has always been a localiser only approach. It is the only Rwy at ORD that is not a full ILS excluding Rwy 18/36 which is not used. The only time it is used for arrivals is if we get a NorEaster, strong NE winds off the lake, that dictate landing Rwy 4 parrallels. Then we would run staggered approaches. I have seen this only a handfull of times over 30 years.Larry (C90)
July 6, 200322 yr Hi Mike, Thanks for your help, I'll have another try just with localiser. I understand now. I'm really impressed with the help I'm getting at this forum and the speed at which people reply:-)kindest regardsstuart
