TOD, hey I got close!

Featured Replies

Simple post but I am kind of excited. Last night using the PMDG 747 at FL410, the RC descent call came when I was only 20 miles from the FMC TOD. That is the closest I have come in years of using RC - it was really cool. After years of using this product, normally this variation is in the 45-65 mile range (RC always being the early one) so you can imagine my surprise (and yes, this is even with adding up to 100 knot tail winds in the VNAV forcast areas).I dont know what was different on this flight (maybe alt, not normally up that high). Eitherway, just excited and thought I would let you all know - its a good thing.

Mike,You've probably already heard this but just in case... RCv4 introduces a 3-PD option from cruise. PD of course stands for "Pilot's Discretion". You're 40% happy now? You'll be 95% happy with it (I hereby reserve ATC to make you 5% unhappy ;) I don't recall what the approve/deny parameters are but more often than not the controller does grant a discretion descent, which of course pleases the 'ol FMC.Keep in mind, if your co-pilot has the radios he/she will acknoledge the descent clearance, and guess what... ya gotta start down.Anyway, thought I'd let you know...
