January 9, 200620 yr I am getting a long delay after being told to taxi to runway and contacting tower. Sometimes up to 10 minutes. Also, if my transition level is 18000 in the UK (is this correct?) and my QNH is 1013 - 29.92, what should they be changed to when my co pilot tells me to check altimeter settings?Cheers
January 9, 200620 yr Moderator Hi,Firstly, have you rebuilt your Scenery Database? If you haven't then do that especially if you have installed 3rd party scenery. If you're hearing 'contact tower' then RC expects you to tune to the tower frequency and make contact. Are you saying that after making contact you don't hear any further instruction? I would expect you to be told to either line up and wait or that you are number x for departure. If you are the only aircraft taxiing to the runway you should taxi onto the runway and stop. You should then hear your take-off clearance. When you fed your flight plan into RC the lowest Flight Levels would have been calculated and displayed briefly in AdvDisp. The TA in the UK varies but is around 60 (6,000ft). It would never be 18000. That's the standard tramsition altitude (not level) for FAA areas such as the US.The golden rule when you hear "altimtere check" is that if you are climbing you set the altimeter to 29.92 or 1013Mb and if you are descending you set it to the QNH or local pressure.Have a read about Transition Altitudes in the manual around p108.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). January 9, 200620 yr I get a message to taxi to runway and then no other options are available. After a minimum of ten minutes, I am then told to contact tower. From that point, everything works properly.I haven`t added any scenery and I have rebuilt my scenery base. The only other thing is I position my aircraft in the runway holding area before loading RC.How do I know what is local pressure? Thanks for response.
January 10, 200620 yr Moderator Can you park your aircraft back at the terminal. That's where flights normally start from ;-) I think you'll find you'll be properly identified as you taxi towards the departure runway. Make a note of the distance/heading to the active runway once GND clears you to taxi. RC might be getting confused by your proximity to the runway if you're parked there at startup. Are you using a 3rd party weather program or the FS9 version? Which ever version you use always make sure the weather is loaded BEFORE you start RC.You find out local pressure by tuning into the ATIS broadcast which is presented on the AdvDisp menu when you first start RC. Always tune into that, listen to the local QNH and tune your altimeter accordingly. You can cheat by pressing B. If you don't get that right you'll never be at the altitude RC expects you to be.Time for bed now. I'll have a read of your replies tomorrow and hopefully you'll have it cracked :-)Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England).
