Help w/ XP disk drive ...

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi all,I installed or attempted to install a second hard drive in my machine yesterday, from what I can tell it all went well as far as the device manager recognizing the drive and giving me a message saying there are no problems with this device. I was even able to view the statistics on the drive and all the information was right, it did report that the drive was inactive. I don't see the drive listed in "my computer" and I know I have to format the drive and I would like to create partitions. So how does one do this in XP, I know in 98 you would use a boot disk to get a new drive up and running, how do I do this in XP?? Thanks for your help.

Without XP in front of me (my work machine is '98 :<( I'm sure others will have more accurate info, but in general you want to go to administrative tools and choose disk manager (or some such name). As I remember it, it's really easy once you get there.

Go via start to "My Computer" and right click on the popup menu choose manage, it will start the computer management console.Choose here disk management right click the drive of your choice and format the drive... :-)Success,awfEHAM
