  1. Thanks for all the replies guys! Glad to hear you all like it and I think I will also. Jim
Very good post. Informative and useful without the usual insults. I expected a blood bath and was pleasantly surprised. I haven't purchased the NGX just yet. I will purchase next week when I'm off from work and can spend a lot of time reading the manuals and kicking the tires before a 1st flight. Maybe take her from KSAT to KIAH. I finally purchased credits for Navigraph and will use the two excellent products together for an "as real as you get" experience. Regards to everyone.

  2. Why do you have to bring Ariane into this thread about Wilco?I guess you just want to start a flame war here too. JeffG
Good point JeffG. I really had nothing to offer here and should have just butt out. I couldn't resist commenting on all the ranting about Wilco which is reminiscent of Ariane. I don't want to start a flame war at all. I will stay out of it.Take care.

  3. Oh dear :)Well I did not mean to start WWIII with my suggestion to use our support forums. Couple of things:- Ron, despite his enthusiasm for Orbx (which is appreciated), does not represent our company view- In this age of cookies and browsers, I don't buy into any passwords/inconvenience arguments - I use many companies' support forums and they're one-click away :)- From a developer's perspective it's not nice to see a topic on AVSIM entitled "Lancair problems" in the the week of debut, particularly when the problem reported on AVSIM was already answered quickly on our support forums and would have taken the OP no more time to find his answer on our forums, versus posting here- If you are truly concerned about any potential warts or flaws in a product, surely the place to get a "feel" for that is the vendor's official support forum? That's what I do. On the flip side, we all understand that AVSIM is *the* go-to place for FS discussions on the net, so in some respects I do understand that a daily habit is hard to break :)
Hi John. Love your products. I've been following this thread for a couple of days and thought I'd chime in.I can understand your perspective in not wanting to see a topic on AVSIM entitled "Lancair problems" just after release of your fine product. From a customer perspective I put a lot of weight in the problem posts as they often help me decide whether to buy or not. I know this is what you seek to avoid by bad press. However, in the "Lancair problem" post I quickly saw that others did not have the same bad experience as the OP and had quick solutions. This is precisely why I love "problem" posts. And just think, I actually missed all of the ads on AVSIM and elsewhere about the release of this fine product. The "problem" post was the only bit of info that led me to your wonderful product. It also helped me to decide to buy. If this was an example of a problem with your product and was quickly fixed then I was convinced to buy. Once again, AVSIM plays a pivotal role in connecting the flight sim community with software developers and new products.Never fly in the same cockpit with someone braver than you.

  4. I see sooooooooooooo much 'advice' about real world flying as it relates to FSX, and about 70-80% is, to be generous, bunk.I know a few here who are 'real' pilots, but I was wondering how many others are and just don't mention itMaybe we can get a list here and give some credibility to the 'advice' given? Here's my history, whats your's?Commercial- Instrument- Multiengine (SEL/MEL)Licensed in 1970
Wasn't sure I wanted to post to this thread but since so many others have I guess I will too.PPL SEL in September 2000, one year before 911 in 2001. My favorite plane was and is a Cessna 172N - N98873.I have been using MSFS since the very beginning many, many, many years ago.

  5. Pehaps you need to go into the FSX settings menu under the sound tab and turn up the volume for Environment. If that still doesn't work, check in the newly created folder in SimObjects titled UT2 Aircraft and check in the folders and make sure there is a folder for each one called Soundai. If they are not there you are missing the sound folders. I'm not sure that you can get them if they are missing besides uninstalling and reinstalling, or running a repair option if its available.I was doind a few flights last night and I could clearly hear them taxing by me and taking off.Good luck.
Thanks for the tips. I didn't think of looking for the sounds folder under the UT2 directory. Some seasons sim pilot I am. :-)I will give that a shot and let you know what I find.Take care.

  6. Ken, what type of sounds are you looking for? I have UT2 installed and my AI have engine sounds. I can hear them start up, shut down. I hear them passing me when I am sitting still and when I pass them.
Hi cmpbellsjc. Thanks for the reply. I do not hear sounds from AI after having installed UT2. I didn't think they had sound. I'll look/listen a little closer tonight during my nightly jaunt from KSAT to KCRP and back.

  7. I have to ditto the comments. I am flying a flight to the Ozarks tomorrow (a place I have never been). I fired up fsx to get some situational awareness, and the Duke to get some familiar Beech feelings. The fsx scenery was close-but the handling of the Beech again blew me away. The handling and joy of flying a Beech is right on-how you get that on a flat desktop with pathetic controls is beyond me-but it is there-that is how it feels!
    Excellent! Simply excellent!

  8. Just what I expected from Flight1. The problem with FSAspen gaugedll.dll has been resolved. The Aspen Avionics EFD 1000 installs and works great.Geofa, this implementation of the EFD 1000 is a bit different from the other freeware version. The graphics are clean and the operation is spot on. Having the mini-panel installer helps with getting a good start on placing the panel in any aircraft. For more precise placement you will have to either use commercial tools or fudge it by hand. Thanks again Jim and Flight1 for the quick resolution. Flight1 RAWKS!

  9. I guess I am going to purchase this one when I get home later. The aspen is something a lot of us are thinking is a way to go.How nice flight one has come up with a sim version to practice on first!
An inexpensive add-on for many small aircraft and STC blessed.

  10. Ken, this is a Flight1 product and Lucente was not involved.I have pinged Ed and he should answer your question sometime soon. Must be golfing! Sorry for the delay.Jim
Thanks Jim. You guys are "quality" so I'm not worried. Flight1 is the best in my book. Probably something wrong on my end. I am running Vista Ultimate with FSX installed on the D: partition. I also have RXP gauges installed on some aircraft but not on the one I am trying to install the new Aspen. Went through the regfix and reboots as well with same results. FSX is a new install with few add-ons and runs smooth as silk. Recent add-ons are Rob Young's excellent B60, RXP, A2A Accu-Sim P-47 Razorback, FSUIPC, and the Mustang of course.Tweaks are based on the guide recently posted by Nick. No problems with anything really.

  11. Has anyone purchased this add-on and gotten it to work? I am having problem with gaugedll.dll. It kills the application shortly after selecting a panel to update. I have posted on Flight1's forum and am awaiting a reply. Just thought I would check here as well. This add-on really looks good and I can't wait to add it to some of my favorite planes.

  12. After 30 years of flightsimming with Microsoft products, it's time to go. I last flew FSX back in October 2008 on my favorite route, KPDX to KOAK using a Wilco 737, Southwest Airlines. I've always loved final approach, about one minute to touchdown. When my system crashed just at that moment, one minute before the wheels screeched, I realized I'd never fly on my computer again and have not. In fact I had only flown two or three times in the whole year prior to the moment. After hundreds of hours of trying, over 3-4 years, to adjust this and that and reading all I could on CTDs and such, I was finished. Too many hours tweaking, too few hours flying. The best moments have been here on AVSIM, I am or was a long time member and was the one to suggest a separate CTD forum at the time and Tom, you implemented it and I was kind of proud of that. The best time overall was that weekend was in Denver when some of us used the United Airlines simulators, that was the best, the peak, the ultimate for me and could never get more real or better than that. The worst moment, Aces Studio closing and finding out that Microsoft is hoarding FSX code against an offer from the real enthsiasts to take it and made it better, the wondereful add-on folk whose products I bought by the thousands of dollars over the years. Microsoft's "business" decision taught me that you should never let a corporate entity dominate your hobby. Well, I've fixed that. I am now utilizing my hobby time to write amateur fiction for the internet and even have my own fans for it now and I control everything about my hobby and it is inexpensive and treats my mind and imagination to scapes that no other company or entity could ever control or change and ruin. And, my computer never crashes because of it.Besides Tom Allensworth and his staff, there are those like the Flight1 folk and Ron Hamilton at Eaglesoft, true pioneers and hobbyists, all of which I wish to thank for their undying efforts to forward this hobby. I will certainly understand if the moderator of this forum moves this post. It's not really about FSX or FS9 funtionality per se, it's just after so many years here on AVSIM, I thought I would at least bring closure first to the main forum, the one that brought me so much pleasure over my years here, and if the post is moved, that is OK.Randy JuraKPDXGod Bless You All
Sorry to see you go Randy. I think we all understand the journey you travelled to get here. Good luck in your future endeavors. Drop in once in a while to let us know how you are doing, okay?Take Care. Best of luck!

  13. Look at the bright side of Microsoft's decision to shut down ACES. Now we can devote all engery on making this version the best ever. Developers can develop knowing that future upgrades can be planned for this version. If this hobby of ours stays viable for the forseeable future either Microsoft or other companies will take notice. I think they will return in full force once the global economy is on the rise again.May two cents.
