  1. I have spent hours trying to purchase fsx steam edition from the steam store, and have yet to be able to take my cart to checkout and pay for the product. I know a lot of folks will be eager to respond by telling me I should be seeking help from steam, not from this forum. That is what I have spent all those hours on so far. I have been able to get lots of forms to fill out, lots of drop down menus with topics I'm supposed to choose from, and so forth. None of the menus listed the problem i am having, so they were no help. I just hoped that some people here might be able to tell me how to navigate that store and actually make a purchase from it. If so, I'd really appreciate it.

  2. I downloaded/installed the Flight Replicas Classic Super Cub yesterday. Although it shows up in the aircraft menu, when I select it, it comes up with a pilot sitting in a seat in a frame with no airplane. The aircraft textures do not show, though they are all in their folders. Can someone suggest what might be wrong?

    Thanks.

  3. Thanks for responding, "New Member". I have closely followed instructions on installing aicarriers, but cannot get them to show up. I imagine I'm doing something wrong, but need someone to walk through it with me in order to verify that.

    As for Acceleration, I need to add other aircraft to carrier ops in acceleration, but can't seem to make that work. I do have the T-45 Goshawk operational, but only up to a point.  On every cat shot it smashes into an invisible barrier at the end of the flight deck.

    So, how do I make aicarriers work?

    How do I successfully prepare other aircraft for carrier ops in Acceleration?

    Thanks to anyone who might be willing to spend just a little time helping me get those things straightened out.

  4. I have killed an exorbitant amount of time trying to find some support for acceleration and aicarriers.  Since AVSIM seems to be the most prolific source of flightsim knowledge, I thought I might search here.  However, I have not found an appropriate place to ask my questions. Instead of asking them in an inappropriate place, I thought you might not mind if I inquired here if you have an appropriate place on Avsim that you might suggest to me.

    If so, I would greatly appreciate being directed to it.  If not, I apologize for wasting your time.

    Thanks.

  5. Suddenly, I have no control of the control surfaces of any of myi planes, neither those supplied with FS, nor any of my addons. The surfaces (ailerons, stab, etc.) either go to their stops and stay there, or they jitter, and drift slowly up and down at random.  The last addon was Acceleration.  It has been working perfectly now for several months, so I don't know whether to suspect it or not.  Of course, I'm not ruling anything out at this point.

    I have two questions, actually;

    1.  Has anyone experienced, or even heard of this problem before, and possibly know of the solution to it?

    2.  If I decided to try reinstalling FSX, does anyone know if am I going to get any response from Microsoft when I try ti re-activate it?

    Oh, I do have one other question;  if I uninstall and reinstall FSX, do I need to uninstall Acceleration, and then reinstall it after the FSX install?

    Thanks for whatever help you can provide.  I'm having withdrawal symptoms!

    I hope everyone had a great 4th of July, and took a moment to remember what it's for.

  6. I've flown the rhino rescue mission several times only to have to abort it at the DC3.  No matter where I land the helo in the temporary helipad behind the DC3, nothing happens..  I just sit in the helo and wish something would.  What is the secret for getting me out of the helo and into the cockpit of the DC3?

    Thanks.

  7. Can someone tell me where the file is that sets the throws for the control surfaces?  I think I need to edit the rudder throws since I replaced my joystick.

    I have tried endless combinations of null zone and sensitivity for rudder, but nothing has solved my problem.

    First, the system:

    Windows 7 Home Premium

    Service Pack 1

    Acceleration

    Intel Core i7-w600K @ 3.40GHZ

    RAM 16 GB

    64 bit system

    Controller:  Thrustmaster xstick Flightstick (new)

    I can move the Z axis (twist the stick) as slowly as possible, but once it clears the null zone the rudder and the nosewheel (or steerable tailwheel) slams all the way over to the stops.  It does that in either direction.

    I have tried two new Flightsticks and they both exhibit this behavior.

    Since the regualr adjustments apparently won't solve the problem, I"m hoping eiditing the software throws data will.

    Or, does anyone have a fix for this issue?

    Thanks!

  8. Part of this may get posted twice.  I had started it once already and it suddenly went away.  So, if two pieces of it show up, just disregard the one with nothing in the body of the post.  (That should make it really easy to disregard, don't you think?)

    Does anyone know a source besides vertigo studios for a good F9F Panther for fsx carrier ops?  I'd take a Cougar, if I can't find a Panther, but I prefer the Panther since that's what jets were operating from carriers in the 7th fleet when I was in the Navy.  The prop planes were A1 Skyraiders, but I already have one of those.

    Vertigo Studios makes a nice Panther, but they're priced a little too high for my budget.  I have a great FA18, the Skyraider, and a Goshawk that I'm really enjoying operating off carriers, but would love to add the venerable old Panther to the mix, if I can find one.

    So, any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  10. I downloaded a nice A-H1 for some prop plane carrier ops in FSX Acceleration today. Everything looks good except that there are no analog gauges in the main panel.  The holes are there, but no gauges.  In my foggy memory it seems as if people often use an alias for gauges somehow, and maybe that is the issue.  But I don't remember how that is done.

    I have the panel cfg file, of course.  If is appropriate to post it here for others with more expertise might give me a clue on how to fix this?  Is there a more appropriate forum for me to be using for pursue this issue?

    Thanks!

    Dewey

  11. I downloaded the nice little Goshawk by Cattaneo and was using it to take off and land on the Acceleration carriers in FSX yesterday. No problems. But today the plane makes it to the front end of the deck on the carrier and appears to run into an invisible wall. It does the same thing on either the carrier tutorial mission, carrier practice mission, or on a couple of carrier missions I set up yesterday and had no problem with.

    The Hornet works normally. The problem appears to only be with the Goshawk. Has anyone else encountered this that might shed some light on what I could try to fix it?

    Thanks!

    Dewey

  12. I'm having quite a few glitches in trying to fly missions in FSX, mainly those associated with Acceleration. Is this the correct place to discuss those?

    One that is especially troublesome is that I have no communication at all with anyone - atc, the carrier, the lso, etc. The briefing for the carrier tutorial mission, for example, speaks of messages coming from the LSO during the final approach to the trap. But there is nothing - no text message, no audio. I'm sure it must be something I have not set up properly, but at this point I haven't found what it might be.

    I also have not communication from my wingman on missions involving two jets. I'm supposed to get some kind of directions, but they never come, so the missions always fail.

    Can someone lend me a hand on this?

    Thanks.

    Dewey

  13. I want everyone who responded to know that I appreciate them taking the time to try to assist me. Thanks fo Meshman, the issue is finally solved. The coding for key and button assignments does indeed reside at C:\Users\<your username here>\AppData|Roaming\Microsoft\Controls. Within that folder is a file named Standard.XML. Open it with whatever app you have that will open MXL files. If you are going to enter the assignments that Acceleration is supposed to enter for carrier ops, pick a spot and make the following four entries:

    <Entry>

    <Key>SHIFT+Q</Key>

    <Down>TOGGLE_TAIL_HOOK_HANDLE</Down>

    </Entry>

    <Entry>

    <Key>SHIFT+U</Key>

    <Down>TOGGLE_LAUNCH_BAR_SWITCH</Down>

    </Entry>

    <Entry>

    <Key>SHIFT+I</Key>

    <Down>TAKEOFF_ASSIST_ARM_TOGGLE</Down>

    </Entry>

    <Entry>

    <Key>SHIFT+Space</Key>

    <Down>TAKEOFF_ASSIST_FIRE</Down>

    </Entry>

    It doesn't seem to matter where you put the entries. The programs moves them around to where it wants them anyway after you power up your computer the next time. I found that when I searched for the entries I had better luck finding them when all of my search entries were in lower case.

    So, if you're having the problem of the disappearing key assignments after you make them manually via the fsx interface screens, just go to that file and make them permanently.

    Thanks again to everyone for responding, and a special thanks to Meshman for the suggestion leading to the solution.

  14. I can make assignments for buttons and keys for my aircraft in fsx, but the next time I launch fsx, the programming is gone from those buttons and keys. What am I missing? And, where do those assignments get stored in fsx? Is there a file that users can access and enter the values manually so that they will remain there? I have been unable to find them in any of the configuration files. Can someone please give me a hand with this? It's extremely frustrating to have to re-enter my custom settings every time I launch fsx. I'm not sure that was happening before I installed Acceleration. Has anyone else had that issue?

    Thanks.

  15. The standard buttons/keys assignments that are supposed to be made when Acceleration is installed didn't happen on my installation. I uninstalled and reinstalled and no joy. Can someone point me to the proper place to manually enter those assignments so they will be there permamently, please? At present, I have to reassign them every time I want to fly Acceleration missions which is particularly annoying in flying Cariier Ops.

    Thanks!

  16. Thanks for the comments, gents. Since stores no longer stock joysticks and you can't get the heft and feel of the action by having one in your hands, we have to now rely on the experiences of others who use the ones we are intereseted in. That's a poor way to have to select something that is supposed to "fit" YOU, but it beats nothing. So I really do appreciate those who take the time to share what they know with me before I take a plunge in the wrong direction and regret it.

    Now, if someone can just point me where I can change the code in FSX (or Acceleration) to PERMANENTLY programs the buttons on the joystick, that would REEEEALY

  17. Thanks to everyone for the useful feedback. Yes, from the reading I've continued to do since posting my question about Flightdeck, it seems apparent that Abacus has left a bitter taste in a lot of customer's mouths! I'm not anxious to be among them. Since posting, I have obtained Acceleration. It offers a lot in a small package for a reasonable price, I think. It isn't perfect, of course. There are a number of frustrating glitches in the program, not the least of which is that the key assignments for the launch bar extend,retract, takeoff assist amr/disarm, takeoff assist trigger, and tailhook extend/retract are not actually assigned to their respective keys. That wouldn't be so bad if you could manually assign them permanently. But I have been unable to do that, which means every time I fly carrier ops I have to go through the pesky exercise of reassigning the keys again. I do all the "OKs" and the "Saves", etc., but once you leave the game and come back, the assignments are gone again. I imagine I can find the code somewhere to enter the assignments permamently, but if someone can tell me where that might be it will save me a whole lot of time wasted searching.. Other than that, the carrier ops, and the Hornets are great fun! Now if I had a joystick that wasn't worn out. My old Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro is no longer "precision", I'm afraid. There is so much backlash in the mechanism after all these years that trapping an FA-18 on a carrier is like trying to herd cats. Can someone recommend a reasonably priced replacement that is precision enough to satisfy the demands of doing that.......at least most of the time?

    Anyway, thanks again for your words of wisdom, gentlemen. I do appreciate them.

    Dewey

  18. I apologize if I'm not in the right place to discuss this topic. But I need some help witih my newly installed Acceleration software. At first, from an exterior view when I tried hooking up to the cat, I could see the bar com down when I did a shift + U. Also, I could see the tailhook deploy and retract with shift +Q. However, they no longer do that. Nothing happens when I do the shift +U or shift +Q. And the blast shield never did raise at all. Also, when following procedures for a cat shot, whenever I advanced the throttle prior to triggering the cat with a shift +spacebar, the plane would immediately accelerate down the deck as if not connected to the cat, so the shift +I apparently didn't work, either.

    But, as I said, now none of the items deploy or retract at all now.

    Am I missing something here?

  19. You know what really amazes me? Given the number of freeware planes that have been created, and given the popularity of the Cessna 185, it really surprises me that no one has ever created a freeware Cessna 185 for fsx. At least, I have been unable to find one. Does anyone know if one exists? Maybe I just missed it somehow.

    I also did some research on FS 2004 Cessnas that might really be first class and port over successfully to fsx. But it seemed to me that people had not been able to find one that either was high quality, or didn't have problems when using it on fsx. Maybe I missed something there, too.

    Anyone know?
