  1. HI I'm trying out the VOXATC X demo. One problem that I've had since running it, is it causes my monitor to freeze up, requiring a powerdown of the computer to recover. It's happened three times and seems to relate to the VOXATC X gauge. One crash was major, causing Windows XP to require re-authorising Windows on-line.I've never had a crash while running FSX before this. The freeze occurs during flight, about 10 minutes out of the airport - I think, but I'm not sure, it happens after toggling the gauge - not sure on that. The demo is the latest version 5.55.Anybody else notice or have this problem?

  2. >I guess anything can become familiar eventually, but those>button assignments sure sound complicated. I'm not too>bright, hence the use of a dedicated keyboard with no shift+>or ctrl+. Do the CH Products throttle/prop/mixture axis>reassignments require FSUIPC or are they accomplished only>with the CH manager? >>Just using what is available under FSX, I have found that I>have to assign a key to reduce throttle incremently in order>to get reverse thrust. The flaps axis is assigned in FSX - there is an option to assign flaps to an axis in there. The reverse through is via the CH Manager - I've got it to repeat the F2 command about 20 times, which is enough to cause reverse thrust to engage. In the reverse direction it simply hits F1 to kill thrust. For it to work, your engines have to be at idle (hit F1 to kill the thrust if your throttle quadrant isn't set right). The gear leaver is via CH Manager. You can assign keyboard commands that will be sent to the simulator when you move the axis. The first command is always ignored, so you need a dummy command to make this work. I used "b g b" (without quotes)to moving the axis in one direction lowers gear, and in the other raises gear (as "g" is the default gear toggle switch). The "b" resets the altimeter to the correct pressure - not a bad thing especially on landing and doesn't cause any problems. As the sim ignores the first letter, the sequence the simulator sees is "gear", then "rest altimeter". Easy to do and works well.To add commands in CH Manager, you need to deselect DirectX checkbox for the axis and then you can enter your own commands.

  3. As I have a throttle quadrant, I don't need the throttle, prop and mix on the CH Yoke, so I reassigned them.I have the following assignments on my controllers:CH Yoke:Left handle buttons (there are five) when press send the keyboard "1", "2", "3", "4" and "5", and when shifted send "6", "7", "8", "9", and "0"This way, the left side is used for contacting air traffic control (in either default ATC or in Radar Contact as the same keys are used)Right handle buttons- red button - Shift key- right side of rocker - opens ATC, shifted activates "Mouse Look"- left side of rocker - closes window, shifted activates window (I use this to navigate around airports)- Hat Switch - up and down for elevator trim, left and right for ariolon trim, shift left and right for rudder trimFront panel buttons- assigned to the first 4 panels (shift-1 through shift 4 on the keyboard) - mainly to access GPSThrottle axis - reassigned to flaps axisProp axis - reassigned to reverse thrustMix axis - reassigned to gear up and downI also have a homemade 12 toggle switch panel (made from the card form inside a Sytec Evo controller) for master battery, generator/alternator, landing lights, strobe/beacon lights, panel lights, GPS/Nav-1, Master avionics, Master Auto-pilot, heading engage, nav-1 engage, altitude hold, approach controlOn my throttle quadrant, I have two throttles, one prop and one mix axis and four buttons - one is used for parking brake set/release. The other three are not used at the moment. My rudder pedals have rudder (obviously) and toe brakesAnd I have two Goflight units - one for the radio (com1, com2, nav 1, nav 2) and one a multi-function display, used for transponder, autopilot, QNH, DME, ADF, etc. Finally, I use the mouse to control my viewpoint - until I can get a TrackIRThe point - the CH Yoke is very useful and using the CH Manager, you can do a lot of programming of the keys to work as you want it to do.

  4. >>Simply put, if I had RC4 and MSATC turned on at the sametime,>and the MSATC gave an instruction to the AI (e.g. c/m FL210),>that same call would be heard in RC4; if I hear an AI pilot in>MSATC check in with ATC "with you thru FL235 for FL190", a>second later I would hear that same call. Same goes for VFR>traffic.>Why not just put MSTS ATC on COM2 so then you only hear RC4 calls?

  5. Check for duplicate AFCAD files (two third party plus the default) - there is a bug in FS9 where sometimes when there are two AFCADs for one airport, the system crashes. I used to get this and deleting the second AFCAD solved it.Get a free program called scanAFD.exe - it IDs duplicate airports and lets you get rid of the duplicate. Also heard that Editvoicepack can cause problemsAlso, don't turn off the MS Air traffic control - just turn the volume down and/or switch it to COM 2 during flight. Some DLL's can cause crashes - so check your modules folder - remove DLLs you think might be a problem and try again

  6. Framerates capped at 60 :) I could only be so lucky. I want a 7800 too, but my Mobo doesn't support PCI-e - only the old fashioned 8X AGP. Stuck with my 5700 for a bit longer and I'll try to get my framerates up above 20. :)Any suggestions on a decent upgrade AGP card - give much better performance than the 5700 (128mb)???Thanks

  7. On approach to Victoria CYYJ, I was being vectored to Runway 27 heading downwind - seemed to be a fair trip in my little Dash 8, so I requested an early turn on base. To my surprise, approach refused, telling me to stay on the downwind a while longer for separation. Sure enough, an Air Canada CRJ705 is cleared on final, and then I'm turned on base behind the CRJ.Nice, really sweet!Great programDavid

  8. I run FS2004 (mid density autogen), Radar Contact, FSPassengers, Activesky and use FS global mesh - no problems - using a P4 2.85g, with a 128mb FX5700 graphic card. All run smoothly - advice - start up active sky first as it takes a minute or two to download and process - I start it, then do my flight planning, then enter my flight in Activesky, then start FS2004 and once loaded up, alt-tab out to start Radar Contact last.Weather radar is a module and is assigned a hot key - you can pop it up anytime in any aircraft - switch it on and load in your flight plan.

  9. Much much better than FS2004 weather, here's why (I love Active Sky)1. Hundreds of cloud textures that the program mixes and matches depending on the weather downloaded - so thousands of weather possiblities2. smooth weather transitions - so you fly into and out of weather - no more sudden weather shifts3. smooth wind transitions4. wake turbulence and thermals5. downloads weather live, or you can download archive or make up your own weather6. many more weather stations reporting weather than the FS2004 server7. comes with a weather radar8. you can load flight plans into Active sky for detailed enroute weather, including winds aloft planning. This program transforms the flying world - and when I'm flying, the weather is what I see the most.

  10. Wow - what an improvement. With the old adventure display, I was having long delays switching views and I didn't know it was Adventure Display causing it. Now, the change in views is instantaneous. And the hot key still works to toggle the display on and off (I prefer off as I know most of the standard key commands for responding, and I only switch it on to check for a command I don't know or to get an ILs freq, etc). Great job.

  11. At CYZT the text for selecting Runway 29 is missing. The slot is there, but only half the line of text is showing up and the "previous" and "next" pages text on the next line is also missing. This has happened both times I've been there. It still works, as by deduction you can figure out that option 5 must be runway 29, but odd - so thought I'd report it.Anybody care to pay a visit to CYZT and check it out? It's a beautiful part of the world, well worth the trip, but it rains a lot - so beware. This is the only place I've seen this oddity. Thanks

  12. I fly RC4 with FS Passengers and Activesky and AIsmooth all the time and I have absolutely no problems.Tip: Load up your flights in the following order.1. Start Activesky 6 (if you have it)2. Use your flight planner to create the flightplan (or start FS9 and use the built in flight planner to create a flight plan)3. Go to Activesky and load in the flightplan (if you used the built in flight planner, just press your start key to tab out to Activesky)4. Start Fs9 and load the aircraft and flight plan 5. Once seated on the flightdeck - load FS passengers as normal - note number of passengers6. Load in the Activesky radar (if you're using it)7. Tab out of FS9 and start Radar Contact 4 - load in the flight plan and set your options - number passengers, flight number, etc. Press Start to activeate radar contact.8. while here, it doesn't hurt to press the "refresh AI" button on Activesky 69. Back in FS9 - you're all set to fly. Note, if you plan to go to an uncontrolled field and want to use unicom on approach or use MSATC ground controlled at any field, set MSATC on Com 2 and turn the ATC sound up in "settings" - also make sure you have assigned the same flight numbers in MSATC as you did for RC4.

  13. CTDs can be caused by multiple afcads for the same airport, regardless of where the airports are located. There is a utility (can't think of the name) that will search for multiple airports and let you delete one or more duplicates. Also, aerosoft installs a DLL that does nothing but provide a weblink - this can also cause CTDs. you can safely remove this DLL fromt he modules folder. On my system Moving Map resulted in CTDs until I removed it.

  14. >I've had this happen to me as well, and discovered the cause.> If you have an initial leg that is very short - say the>airfield to an on-field VOR, and don't actually fly that leg,>but skip to the next leg (KATL - ATL - noone is an example),>the ATC controller feels that you have missed a leg and are>off course. You will be directed back until you fly that>first leg to his/her satisfaction - simply fly back (not>forgetting to reset the gps leg) and all should be well.>>DJOr better still, request direct to the next way-point, after you have been requested to to your 180 turn to get back on course (don't do the turn, just ask for the direct)

  15. >You are supposed to have the aircraft ready for takeoff>except possibly switching on landing lights , when cleared to>taxi onto the runway. When cleared for takeoff, you should>takeoff. There was probably an aircraft on a 3-4 mile final>when they cleared you, and you waited too long. In real life,>that would have caused either a go around for the landing>craft, or you would have been told to exit the runway. This happened to me recently in real life. I was on Westjet Flight 213 from CYEG to CYYJ - the Westjet 737-700 was cleared onto the runway. Then something in the cabin required attention (moving a passenger for some reason) and the pilot could not take-off. We exited the runway because an Air Canada Jazz Dash 8 was already on short-final. The Dash 8 landed and then we regained the runway for take-off.

  16. >I also encountered that annoying thing... I thought the same>and it worked...>>I bought RCv4 'cause I hate FS ATC... so I shut its mouth :(There are a lot of questions on default ATC and Rc4 and using them side by side - maybe a sticky on this would be helpful that includes:1. how to shut off MSATC2. how to use MSATC side-byu-side with RC4 for arrival unicom or progressive taxi (by setting MSATC to com 2)Just a thought (not evberybody reads the manual) :)

  17. Well, I had my first emergency with Rc4 and I loved it.A short 737 flight from Edmonton International to Red Deer - on a long final approach when the gear didn't go down. Declared the emergency and stupidly asked for Red Deer to land - next time I have a gear problem I'll go to an airport with an ILS system.Fs Passengers wanted me to Squawk 7700, but RC4 doesn't recognise that code in the emergency (too bad).We crashed on the runway, killing 104 and injuring 2. The pilot and copilot survived, but were injured. The aircraft was history. Not a good ending, but a learning experience for sure.

  18. >Hi all,>>I am trying this out as well, I have a few questions, >>You dont have to load a flight plan in FS2004 planner for this>to work, is this correct?Correct>>I only listen to fs2004 weather briefing at the start of the>flight (I think RCV4 and FS2004 will conflict here with a>double weather report, if I remeber correctly), then I use>RCV4 for everything else till I call visual on the field or>request IAP (I dont touch FS2004 ATC), then cancel IFR plan in>rcv4. Then I use FS2004 ATC for the rest by tuning into the>airport frequency. IS this how everybody else do it as well.>RC4 has excellent weather breifingh even at uncontrolled airports - you call the FSS to get weather here. To use it, make sure automatic tuning is turned on in options, as you don't have a frequency to tune (it is phone call after all)>FS2004 pilot voice 3 is checked on for pilot replies and ATC>in the volumes of FS2004 is turned on as well.Correct>>also, Is there a way to stop FS2004 ATC talking to AI traffic>while you are using RCV4 to get to your uncontrolled airport?>It would be nice to just listen to RCV4 during flight, OR ON>THE GROUND, but when I tune into the same frequency that>FS2004 is using, you get double ATC talk.>Some from FS2004 and some from RCV4 ATC.Yes - in your aircraft, make sure Com 2 is selected. Rc4 always works on Com 1 so you will only be tuning com 1 when using Rc4. When it is time to contact MSATC to use unicom at an uncontrolled field, or to request progressive taxi at a controlled airport, bring up the FS menu, and make your selections. This way you don't have to end RC4 first - they can co-exist side by side and you can contect either as necessary. This is nice when using unicom on approach because you can still use RC4 to declare an emergency to go to another airport. It works perfectly and no double-talk. But don't forget at the start of each flight to press com 2, otherwise you'll hear MSATC and RC4 giving you the weather, for example.>>Thanks a bunch,>>

  19. >>Hi David,>>>>What I do is have FSATC on com2. Then once I've finished>with>>RC (visual on the field) I tune in the FSATC and start>working>>with that for the landing phase of the flight.>>>>All the best,>>>>John>>Sounds a good work around. To set MSATC on com 2 - do I just>set Com 2 on the radio and have ATC turned on in settings ->then if I want to use MSATC just tune Com 2 to the required>frequency - i.e. unicom in this case?>>DavidOkay - tried it and it works amazingly well - just remember to enter the same call sign information into MSATC as you do for RC4.

  20. >My preference is FSBuild 2.22 payware. >>I got it to work with AS6 and the PMDG 737NG as well as RC.>Can you tell me how you did this? I enetered the correct directory, have use winds aloft checked in the build menu and make sure AV6 is running but get no winds aloft data showing in the navlog. Thanks

  21. >Hi David,>>What I do is have FSATC on com2. 22. Thanks DougI fly into quite a few uncontrolled airports in Canada (some even have scheduled jet traffic in real life) - so some form of unicom options on arrival would be great - kind of like we get when taking off from uncontrolled fields. For now, I'll watch out for traffic visually and go around of I see them on my runway - guess it's their runway until its vacated.David
