FSBUILD and PMDG problem
Using XP media center. After my post, I jumped the gun and restored my computer to an earlier timeframe (before the AIRAC cycle update). I went a step further and uninstalled both fs2004 and PMDG then reloaded both. I was able to get it to work then. Not sure where the problem could have been. This has been a tough weekend. I had my sights set to fly and have spent more time fixing problems. I know we have all been there before with this hobby so not complaining. My newest and technically hardest problem to figure out is with my night time flying. I can not see a thing. The panel lights come up but I can't even see a glimpse of the "grey" on the panel itself in 2D. Also, while parked at the gate at the airport from which I fly out of, I can not see a thing practically. It is like the textures are much darker than ever. I can not see the tarmac at all. This has not always been the case but I did recently get a new display, and I'm starting to believe it is due to the "cheapness" of this thing.

FSBUILD and PMDG problem
I am having difficulty getting my flight plans to work. Let me first say that I have been using PMDG 737, FS 2004 along with FSBuild for quite some time and no problems. I have successfully in the past loaded new flight plans from FSBUILD as well as recall flight plans from within the FMC to fly that were saved. Something odd happened today. For some reason, all my flight plans that I can visibly see in the FMC under Nav Data, will not load. I get a "not in database...program error" every time I try. I went and checked the Flightplan folder under PMDG and all the flight plans are visibly there. I said ok, let me start over then. I then deleted all of them to start anew and went to FSBUILD to rebuild one of the flight plans that was in there. It loads beautifully and when I look in the folder, it is there. Unfortunately, it still is not recognized by the FMC. This is odd. The only thing that I did recently was update my AIRAC from Navigraph. Could this have been the cause? Any suggestions on what to try. Christian Williams

Unable to see cockpit panels at night
I need help. I have been flying the 737 NG for a few years now. No problem up until recently and the only thing changed is my display. Bought a new display (Acer 20+ in) and have settings at 1920x1080. Went to play the game and and can not seem to get the panels to show up and only seems to be at night. I'm using FS 2004. I'm not sure if it is the display simply because I can see the panels in day setting with this display parameter. Vice Versa, I can not seem to get the panels to show up if I reduce the resolution while in night mode. Something seems to have changed and I'm not sure what to do to get it back. Does this sound like a familiar problem to anyone? Any help would truly be appreciated. Thanks. Christian Williams

Adding to pull down parking list
I'm not sure if this is a question better asked in another forum but here goes...I use FS9. My home airport is Atlanta-Hartsfield. I currently have an add-on that I acquired through AVSIM that enhances the airport experience with new taxiways, gates, etc. However, when looking at the parking list when "creating a flight" at KATL, the number of gates in the game are not present there. I have an AFCAD editor and have looked at the file that I am using for KATL. On the display, I see all the parking spaces and gates but in the parking list, they are not all listed. I take it that what shows in the AFCAD editor for parking list is what actually is shown in the game. How can I add to this parking list in the AFCAD program to be able to be seen as an option in the sim itself?James Williams

Ready made flight plans
I have been flying the 737 NG for about that same timeframe now and no doubt, I still feel like I'm learning stuff. FS Build is what I use as well. It is really simple to use and get imported into the FMC. I was just going to mention regarding the learning curve, if you haven't already, get you a copy of Metzinger's tutorial for the 737. It really gets you up and going fairly quick but I must say, you get a lot out of it when you take it step by step. Learning curve here is steep but worth it. James Williams

ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
I understand. I downloaded an AFCAD editor that allowed me to change the ILS frequency that is displayed on map view within MSFS. I'm not sure if this is going to actually make a difference when flown though. I plan to check it out today sometime.

ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
I'm learning more about programming than I ever thought but I see your point about the easier of the two would be to edit the navdata. I know how to easily get to that, but wouldn't that be scrapped at the next update of my navdata from navigraph? I'm going to try my hand at editing the AFCAD like suggested. I have a question in though to project AI b/c I realized last night after my last post, that I had downloaded a patch from AVSIM library written by Jim Vile to upgrade KATL with new jetways, gates and the runway 10/28 itself. It must have been in that patch where the MSFS map was altered as well as the ILS frequencies that it is giving when I double click on the map itself. I noticed this morning that not only the ILS for runway 10 is wrong but also for 28. They both should be 111.55 and 11.75 respectively. Instead they are labeled 108.1 and 108.3. Hopefully one of the programmers there will have a suggestion.

ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
Thanks for everyone who has attempted to give me ideas on how to correct this problem. After checking the ILS frequency for the field on MSFS that was suggested, I noticed this was not the correct published frequency for runway 10. It was 108.1. I did a test run and sure enough, 108.1 captured the glideslope and brought me down pretty as a picture. I bought the scenery upgrade for Atlanta about one year ago from MegaScenery. The way I figure it, it was through this add on that I am even able to see runways 10/28. So when I pulled this up on the map in MSFS, the listed frequency for this runway must have been programmed by MegaScenery in order for anything to show up at all for Runways 10/28. I have a question in now for the folks at Megascenery as to how to get behind the scenes of their software and hopefully correct this. If it goes unanswered however, I would appreciate any direction for additional software that others recommend that will allow for me to upgrade Atlanta-Hartsfield with runway 10/28 that uses the correct ILS frequency. Boy what a day..James Williams

ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
Interesting. I did just that, but when I looked at the ILS Freq for runway 10 it had 108.1 listed. Just curious, since this does not match up with what is published, how can I change that?I need to clarify that this is the frequency listed in MSFS for that runway. So apparently my scenery update for KATL is working and showing that there is a runway 10/28 but that the listed ils frequency for that runway (10) is wrong. Obviously I would want it to match what is published in the AIRAC cycles and on Terry Yingling's updates so my question is how to change this 108.1 in MSFS to the 111. 55 that it should be?

ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
A few months back I did update FS9 with a file that did add runway 10/28 to the game. When I am flying in the game, I see this runway present whereas before adding it, it was not there. I checked the file "wpNavAPT" and the correct frequency for ILS 10 is in there. It was also the correct frequency listed in Approach INIT and what I was dialed to. Is there another angle to this that needs to also be in sync with what I have mentioned?

ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
To ask a silly question...where do I get to the fligtsim map. Is this listed in the game's directory and an actual map that can be pulled up?
-
ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
I do have the runway on the grid. 10/28 is visible from the air. I had added this a few months back, but this is actual first time attempting to use the runway itself.

ILS frequency tuned but getting nav invalid
First, let me praise the folks at PMDG for a fine product. I have been flying the 737 NG for over a year now and I am still amazed. I am not one who likes to waste others time with questions that I can't go and search for the answer myself but I have run into a problem researching the answer to this problem. I have noticed some posts about this same issue but no great answers as to how to definetly fix the problem. The scenario is this. I was flying into Atlanta Hartsfield today and going to make an ILS approach for runway 10. When searching arrivals in the FMC, ILS runway 10 was an option. Approaching the airport, I had tuned the localizer (111.55) and was able to hear the ident. I had been in LNAV and was using the LVL change to step down to each fix instead of using VNAV. I had the VOR/LOC button active on the MCP, however I never captured the glideslope. "NAV INVALID" showed on the bottom of the FMC and I figured it was because the ILS frequency tuned must not be the ILS frequency either for the field or in my database for the FMC. I have the latest AIRAC cycle from Navigraph. It must be that I need to verify that what is in the software for MSFS matches up for what is downloaded into my FMC data. If so, where do I go to verify this and how would I change it if one does not match up and needs to be changed? I am using FS9.Thanks for any help that someone can give.James Williams

missed approach holds with 737 NG
That's exactly what it seemed to do. I went back and tried again and the second time I was able to get the plane to the holding fix. I hit LNAV along with level change. I stayed in the hold until exiting. I need to run the pattern a few more times to make sure that it is a reliable maneuver and I did something right or if I just got lucky. Thanks for the reply. missed approach holds with 737 NG
I was attempting a missed approach today in 737NG at KATL on ILS 8L. Once I got to minimums, I hit TOGA and the plane pitched upward and engines roared back to life. After cleaning up with gear and flaps being retracted, I noticed the plane did not take me to the holding pattern-TROYS. I had the A/P on as well as I was in VNAV and LNAV. I then attempted to DIRECT TROYS and although I was able to enter it, the FMC was confused and I just kept heading straight. This is not the first time this happened to me trying this. It also happened when I was training on Metzinger's training manual when landing in Orlando. Is this an active option? If so, does anyone have any suggestions what I might be doing wrong here?ThanksJames

Tim Metzinger's new book "Flying the line"
I was wondering if anyone can direct me to this piece of work. I know all about the controversy surrounding the past tutorial that he put out and why it was removed. I actually have a copy of the last work and I found it very helpful. I do not want to rehash that, but moving forward, from his own website he mentions he is currently writing a book in pdf format. I was wondering if this project exists now or did it get dropped?Chris W

Joystick stops responding in long flight.
For some reason, on long flights, I am losing the ability to use my ailerons. My yaw and pitch will work fine but unable to roll after I have flown a long distance. I took some advice from a posting by assigning a function or two to the joystick itself in hopes of preventing it from "timing out". That did not prevent it. It seems to do just that though, "time out" after a while and not let me have full function of the stick.Who do I turn to to ask what is the fix? Is it a software problem with either Microsoft or Logitech? I am using Logitech Force 3D pro along with FS9. Why do I just barely make it off the tarmac in time?
I used the "aircraft load manager" that is under PMDG and set the 800 single to: forward 4574, aft 5656; Pax weight: 31500, cargo 10230, zfw 133030, max takeoff weight 173k, max zfw 136000, max fuel load 39970.I must say that I have not revisited this load manager since my maiden voyage when I got the software, so it was only set for the 800 single, not the 800 mixed or 900 single/mixed. I'm wondering now if that may have had something to do with it since I mainly fly the 900 series. I have attempted a different flap setting once (10) which really did not seem to make any difference. I'm now starting to question if it has been a situation with the fuel weight.Chris

Why do I just barely make it off the tarmac in time?
I am flying PMDG 737 800/900 series. I have read through the manual a few times now but I'm not fully understanding what I'm doing wrong on this one. My home field I like to fly out of is Atlanta Hartsfield. I have been taking off from rwy 8L numerous times now in short hops over to Charlotte. Well anyway..I notice that when I get to V rotate, I barely have enough runway left to get off the ground. I am able to do it, but I notice a lot of other heavys getting off the ground sooner than I do on the same respective runway, even much larger aircraft. When I pull onto the runway, I rev N1 to 40%, let off brake, hit the TO/GA switch on the MCP and off I go. I have set the speed (from takeoff page plus 5 )in the IAS/MACH selector. Flaps are set to 5. I have tried only using the max for N1 (24K) and CLB from the N1 limit page on FMC thinking this would give me max performance. Any thoughts as to what I am missing here? Thanks,Chris Williams

Dead stick
I had it happen again today with just a short hop between Dulles and JFK. I'm not real sure what it may be but I know that I am disengaging my autopilot but for some reason my ailerons are not responding. My rudder is working beautifully but all I have is the sensation of sliding on a bed of ice trying to steer is impossible, at least to hit a straight path like a runway.

Dead stick
I'm almost embarrassed to say what I'm using as far as equipment goes. I use the Logitech force 3D pro. The following are my computer specs:OS Name Microsoft Windows XP ProfessionalVersion 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600OS Manufacturer Microsoft CorporationSystem Manufacturer GatewaySystem Model GT4010System Type X86-based PCProcessor x86 Family 15 Model 47 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~2210 MhzBIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 12/13/2005SMBIOS Version 2.3Total Physical Memory 1,024.00 MBAvailable Physical Memory 349.71 MBTotal Virtual Memory 2.00 GBAvailable Virtual Memory 1.96 GBNot sure if this helps answer the question. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that I disengaged the autopilot. But I felt like a hangglider coming in for a landing in a hurricane. If there is a fix for it, I would appreciate any advice.

Dead stick
Is it possible to fly for a period of time in which either the stick or the sim itself will not allow for control of the plane. I was flying PMDG 737 800 from Key West to Grenada the other day (3 hour flight) and when deactivating autopilot to manual land, it was like trying to steer a boat with a sail. Is there some type of "timeout delay" that will cause this type of thing to happen?

Setting Decision Height and Decision Altitude on the EF...
Hello,I'm new still to PMDG's 737 800/900. I'm using FS9 and I'm having trouble with the Minimums Reference Selector.I'm running through the flight from EDDH to EDDM in the manual to familiarize myself with the aircraft and on page 40, it mentions setting the MINS by turning the knob to BARO and RADIO to set. Unfortunately I'm unable to get the knob to respond. I see where "+" or "-" shows up as if I'm able to adjust, but when I try, it doesn't do anything. Is there something that I'm not doing right here? Any advice I would appreciate. Thanks

Just starting out in 737 800/900
I'm new to the forum and the PMDG product line. I just purchased the PMDG 737 800/900 to run with MSFS9. With the knowledge base here by those experienced with this product, can someone tell me of some necessary add-ons that would enlighten the experience more so right out of the box. I'm thinking too of any possible add-ons that have come into existence for this that have made the flying experience more enjoyable and easier on someone just starting out.Any feedback is greatly appreciated.James

Real trim
Let me first say hello to all here at Avsim. I just joined the forum today. I am new to flight simulator, but not to flight sims in general. I have recently purchased FSX, and I am looking to improve upon my flying skills with this program. I wanted to first ask a question concerning the file for FS2004 Real Trim. I understand this file is supposed to allow for much more finer trimming within the game. Can this file also be used in FSX?
