yes you can actually!! I had the same thing taxiing out of EHAM on my first flight in the NGX today, i was taxiing out when i found out that my throttles weren't properly calibrated so when they went to full power on the taxiway i had to brake pretty firmly so this went on for a couple of seconds before i sorted it out but when i wanted to slow down to hold for the active i noticed i couldn't stop! I looked at the faillures menu in the fmc and it said that my brakes had failed so it's very well possible that you experienced the same thing!
