  1. Hi, Alex!I'm back again, this time with more information about double-talk from HP. I did a search on the Pegatron motherboard and ended up at a site called BIOS-mods. The person posting there was trying to do exactly what I had planned to do, relying on the upgrading information I posted above. He was not able to complete the upgrade because the Pegatron will not accomodate a processor of more than 95 watts. After many communications with HP, he finally got them to reimbuse him for his processor purchase because they had provided misleading information. Several other posters also complained that they would now have processors which they would be selling cheaply.I next focused on the motherboard itself at the HP site and discovered a completely different set of potential processor upgrades, which does not include any processors operating at higher than 95 watts.I probably will not even upgrade the video card because the performance gains would be marginal at best.Thank you again for your prompt and thoughtful reply.
  2. Hi, Alex!Thank you for your prompt reply. Before even considering this upgrade, I visited the HP site and looked up the possible upgrade pathways for exactly this model of computer: the p6310y. I have to admit I was greatly surprised and pleased when I read the following, which I have pasted into this message. This motherboard supports only AM3 processors Memory support is limited to DDR3 modules only. HyperTransport 3.0 Split power planes allow separate power management for CPU and integrated memory controller for improved power savings. Supports the following processors:AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb) AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka) AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto) AMD Athlon II X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus) AMD Athlon II X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana) AMD Athlon II X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor) Sorry, I can't delete the extra bullet. I am hopeful that HP would not state that the system can be upgraded when it cannot. They would certainly sell more computers if it is impossible to upgrade. Does anyone else have any ideas?
  3. Hello! This is my first post. I wish it could be brief, but it seems that everything related to FSX is complicated.Last April I bought an HP AMD quad core to replace my seven-year-old Intel 2.8 GHz single core system with 1 GB of PC1066 RAM. Here are the highlights:Athlon 2 x4 630Pegatron Violet 6 motherboard6 GB DDR3 1333 memoryHP 23" monitor which I am running at the full 1920 x 1080 resolutionWithin a week, I upgraded:the power supply from the 300w to an Antec Earthwatts 650w (it was not easy, but I managed to fit the PS into the cage)the onboard video to an nVidia gt 220My upgrade will be made within the following constraints:I will not be switching to Intel, so my first planned upgrade is to the AMD Phenom 2 x4 965BE @ 3.4 GHzI do not plan to overclock. My computer case will not accomodate a video card any longer than 8.25" so I am looking at the GTS 450 or the GTX 460 (preferred) The power supply has 1 (6+2) PCI-E and 1 PCI-E connector. Will these two connectors together work with the GTX 460?My budget is $300.00.I have the following add-ons:Aerosoft Piper CheyenneWilco/feelThere Airbus Series Volume 1World of AI set at IFR aircraft only and 60% volumeI fly only between regional airports to keep FPS between 20-25. Any major airport knocks that down to 10-15. Heavy overcast with snow or rain gets me down to less than 10 whether on the ground or in the air.I am looking to improve performance to minimum 30 at regionals; minimum 25 at major airports; and, minimum 25 in heavy weather.I need to know whether these expectations are unrealistic. What is the most cost-effective solution? Upgrade the video card only? Upgrade the processor only? Upgrade both?(Somehow I hit a wrong key and sent the message before completion.)Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
