  1. Thanks for the reply, but that is the way I have been doing it.It works well on the fuselage it self, but not on the other textures. When I do it the way you just described, it is waaay to shiny.Just try it.. Make a repaint with a rather dark color on the engines, save it and make the spec. Go in FSX and see what i mean. Thanks again..Kjetil...
  2. Hello PMDG.I have tried over and over again to make my own specular image to go with my repaints of the JS41, but with no luck. The Spec for the fuselage is okay, but I can not seem to get it right on the Master image that holds all the details of the engines, wings, undercarriage and so on. When i try, the repaint in FSX comes out looking like something out of a flying saucer;) Waay to shiny..So what I did, was that I just copied the main spec from the default PMDG livery folder to get a desent looking spec. But still, I need to make my own. If you have seen my repaint of Direktflyg, you will see what I mean. Way to shiny. Now I have made an un-educated guess of why I can't get it right, and I think it's because you have integrated everything into the same file. The Spec, Bump, Alpha and so on.. Is this right? So please.. Could you guys please explain step by step how to make a custom spec for us on the master image? When I try to do it by your explaination in the readme file that came with the repaint, I can not get it right. As i said, the fuselage comes out great, but not the rest.Regards, Kjetil Mathisen
  3. BTW, Sorry Daniel Holm but it was to late to change the tail-number to your request on the Direktflyg repaint. I had allready flattened the image and i didn't save a backup of the Photoshop image.
  4. Finished Wideroe repaint with updated and sharpened green colors to look more like the paint scheme does on the DHC8's. Also updated engine nachelles and other details. I'll upload to avsim as soon as I figure out how to make a nice Specular to the repaint. Shouldn't take too long.Regards, Kjetil M
  5. Hi. I am just finished repainting the PMDG JS4100 into a fictional paint. The repaint looks good, but I just can not find a good tutorial on how to make a Specular of the repaint.I ended up just using the original that came with another repaint just to see how my repaint turned out in FSX.Of course every here and there the spec shines through from the original paint where it was taken from.By the way, here is the explaination that came with the repaint kit, but I can not seem to make sense of it:Quote begin:"Now creating your spec map for this texture is simple. Resize your newly pasted PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean (Dirty) map to 1024 x 1024 then fill this with black with Blending settings of Mode - Multiply and opacity set to 76% "Quote endI need to make a spec before i release this paint.I am using Photoshop with the nVidia dds. plug-in.Please I ask, can anybody guide me through on making a Spec? Remember that I am not 100% familiar with all theterminology of Photoshop yet, so please explain so everyone can understand;) Thank you..Here is my repaint just to show you what I am doing.Regards, Kjetil M
  6. Here is my bird after I repainted it into a fictional paint scheme of Wideroe. They normally fly the Dash 8. But I think the paint fits well on the JS41I still have to do some research on the Spec to get the gloss perfect and other minor flaws.Regards, Kjetil M
  7. By the way, how do I go about changing the resolution of the textures to get a higher definition on the textures? Is there an easy way of doing it?
  8. Hello.I have had the privilege of being allowed to do a cockpit repaint for the Flight1/Coolsky Super80 Pro model and releasing it to the public.I am having problems with quality loss after repainting the textures in Paint shop Pro X2 even though the repaint looks awesome within PSP, it seem to lose the clarity somewhere along the way of again saving the images as DDS files. So here is a step by step explanation of how I normally do it, and see if you can find a better way of doing it.1. I open DXTbmp and select the file I want to repaint in the texture folder of the airplane.2. I save the file as a TGA file and save it in my temp folder.3. I edit the files in Paint shop and give them all new colors not touching anything within the option of color depth in PSP.4. I save and overwrite the file in my temp folder from Paint shop.5. I open up DXTbmp and find the repainted file to get it compatible with FSX again.6. I save the file in DXTbmp to a DLL file, and put the new file back into the airplanes texture folder within FSX again, and try out the new pain. And it looks terrible compared with the original paint that came with the airplane.Only after saving the repainted file as a DDS 888-8 32bit am I able to maintain the same quality as the original paint. But the author of the airplane says that I need to save the textures as 256bit images, and when I do, it looks like something from FS98. So if I want the best quality, I have to save in the highest possible resolution, but then again the files will be almost four times as large as the original. From 1Mb to 4Mb.What am I doing wrong?
  9. How do we go about doing this? I did search for a topic about this, but couldn't find any.I have allready implemented it into my JS4100, but would like to do it in the MD-11 too.I really don't care if it can't be married into the map display on the dash (even though that would be the best thing), as long as there is a way to put the gauge in in front of the auto brake switch, or other places in the VC.Regards,Kjetil Mathisen
  10. With this post i would like to personaly thank PMDG for this wonderful and exciting addon. It is a wonderful bird and i love everything about the plane. After installing the latest patch, the airplane came alive like never before. The job you have put in to those virtual cockpit light is just stunning! I have never seen anything like it in Flight Simulator X. The Dome light looks so real.Beeing able to adjust the background lights to your liking is just something i believe most of us simmers could just dream of a few months ago. After the new patch, all the pixelations of the VC lights is gone to. Smooth.. The best thing about the MD-11 is that it dosent cause my computer to crash because of memory errors and it is not hard on my frames eighter! It's genious!! Yesterday i made two long flights online on Vatsim and i had active sky running in the background without no crash to desktop! That has never happend for me before in FSX! I always got CTD with all those programs running and flying less advanced AC addons. This is amazing..I cant believe how complex and complete the MD-11 is! It's a simmers dream without a doubt.Loading and starting up the MD-11 is a thrill everytime! It was alot of reading and tutorial flights before i learned the airplane. All that reading was so rewarding..The airplane was expensive, but worth every cent. The airplane is an absolute must have in every serious flight simmers hangar! Thank you PMDG! I am looking forward to see your future projects..Good luck..-Kjetil Mathisen-
  11. The horizontal stabilizer position is provided to the automatic flight control system software where it is passed through a second order Chebychev motion filter to provide horizontal stabilizer rate. A threshold and hysteresis function detects when the motion exceeds 0.08
  12. Hey Soulman.. You avoid what you can avoid.. But it does not mean that pilot's don't have the knowledge of an NDB approach. You go through all procedures during your instrument training and even practice in the simulators and in the airplane with your instructor before any checkride. The NDB is pretty stressfull because you really need to mentaly stay infront of your airplane all the time, and when you are on a checkride you allready are stressed out.The human mind can only deal with that much stress, and when you upon that have to do an NDB approach with the hood on, you can easily reach your stress limit. What happens then is that the mind confuses every input it gets from your surroundings and you mess up. This example is of course for a pilot that just finished his/her's flight trainingand have a limited time IFR and are sitting there with 35 hours of instrument training and are going for a checkride. As experience comes you tackle your tasks more easily.I have a friend of mine who was a captain on the Dornier 228 in Norway for a number of years (He is now a FO in a 737). They flew to alot of small airstrips in the northern part of Norway, and some of those airport had only NDB approaches.Every now and then he would get a company check pilot on his flights, and he was required to do the NDB approaches with a loaded airplanefull of passengers. He said that you get used to the NDB's like everything else and finally you don't even think about them. You just do them.I think even in his new job flying the 737 they are required to do an NDB approach when ever he is in the Simulator doing checkups.I do not see any problems of performing an NDB approach in the 737 eighter. You have the autopilot to relieve some of the stress involved in NDB approaces.I'm pretty sure most of us realworld pilots on this forum has tried a NDB approach in the PMDG 737 and it worked out just fine?
