  1. Rendi,

I made the adjustment and did a quick hop from KDFW to KPHX.  No autopilot funny business!  Interestingly my other rig had this option enabled as well without these issues.  It looks like the solution to the problem so far.  I will be testing with the MD11 and B777 over the next couple days to confirm the fix.

    Thank you! :im Not Worthy:

  2. Hello All,

I have been a PMDG user for some time and have begun to experience issues with my aircraft on an install on my new FSX rig.

    Some background:

I own the NGX, MD11, and 777X and have them installed on an older x79 SB-E rig as well as a newer z87 Haswell rig.  The SB-E rig is stable and always has been, the Z87 rig however is giving me fits with FSX.  All of my PMDG aircraft on my z87 rig experience uncommanded control deviations in autopilot.  Typically (this has been experienced in all 3 aircraft) I will have entered cruise flight and be functioning under autopilot when suddenly my aircraft begins an uncommanded pitch up or pitch down maneuver that ultimately becomes terminal to the flight.

    Attempted Remedies:

I have reinstalled all of the aircraft involved and done everything short of clean reinstall of FSX.

    Possible causes:

Incidentally this rig is also suffering from a Win 7 time issue where I am unable to synchronize the system clock with a server and the computer cannot keep accurate time as a result.  I have confirmed my MB is ok as the BIOS clock is correct.

Could system time being wrong somehow affect PMDG aircraft?

I am very close to doing a complete wipe of this computer and starting from scratch but for obvious reasons wish to avoid that if a fix is possible.

    Please advise.

  3. Thanks all.

I flew GEC8230 last night from KORD to KLAX and had the EXACT SAME questions.  I neglected to enter winds and when I entered a value in the INIT page I was given a 44kt TL wind which was actually the exact opposite of what I was experiencing.

Thanks for clearing this up, I guess my turns just got longer with this bird especially considering I have PFPX now and it gives me this info to use.

  4. Andrew,

It's my pleasure to share my experiences.

On the "big" rig I run a 3930K under an H100i and on the one with the GTX770 I run a 4770K under an H80i.  I OC'd Core 1 to 4.7GHZ because in AISuite 3 I can do that and it is MORE stable than my 3930K running 4.6GHZ under an H100i (a big surprise considering the delta in price).  I do not worry about temps or volts as I let AISuite 3 do all of the OC set up and merely cranked up Core 1 as I am led to believe that its the core that runs all of FSX and its goodies.

Both rigs scream and are overkill but the 4770K is a mini-ITX build and fits in a cubby on my desk.  I think we take a "Tim The Tool Man" (90's Tim Allen TV reference) approach to FSX sometimes.  The small rig does almost all that the big one does, cost half as much, takes up 25% of the space, and is 300 times less stressful as it doesn't even have plexi-glass on the side!

    Good luck with your build.

  5. Hi All,

I run an ASUS GTX770 DCUII OC version here on my new z87 build and I can report that at "ludicrous" settings this card can handle anything FSX can do.  My other rig runs two-way SLI'd GTX 680 4GB cards and can do the same.  I suspect that while the Titan and 780 can give you that little bit of "extra", normal humans would likely not be able to detect the difference except in the tingle they got in their pants knowing they had those cards in their rigs.

FSX stopped being able to hurt video cards I suspect around the GTX 580 and 590.

This is of course my opinion and is worth what you paid for it. :P

  6. Was just about to post the same issue.  Climbed to FL380, went to Auto Cruise, and then the aircraft seemed to lose altitude slightly.  After that all hell broke loose and the AP was essentially useless.  If it was a tail strike then PMDG did an amazing job simulating an explosive decompression and non-catastrophic loss of a the rear pressure bulkhead.  This was on an AAL flight from KMIA to KLAX.

Tried an AAL flight today from KMIA to SAEZ and climbed to my designated cruise altitude of FL350, engaged Auto Cruise and stepped out for a bio break and coffee refill.  When I returned the aircraft was at sea level wobbling around stalled with Wheel Well Fire annunciation on the MFD and my brake rotors glowing red hot.  I assumed it was my fault however for running the center tank dry while on Auto Cruise.

  7. Hi All,

Just got the parts in for my new Mini ITX Maximus VI Impact based home infotainment rig.  This will allow me to move back into my home office as my main SB-E rig is now mainly an iRacing platform.  It is also upstairs and far away from my home office which means that at night the wife and I are literally a house apart (we do lots of work on our PCs).  My Obutto R3volution racing rig is not an ideal setup for FSX (pain to switch wheel for yoke) so I am going back to a desk for FSX.  I have certainly not enjoyed having to take apart my racing rig to convert it to FSX and even when I do the 3 27" monitors just make it feel weird (stretching in peripheral vision).

I look forward to this "mini" build and seeing how this combo handles FSX.  I am planning on going full on FTX Global, Opus, FSDT (have almost all of them), REX, and PMDG.  From what I read here, thanks to your great community contributions, Haswell will do the job every bit as good as my monster rig upstairs (3930K).  I will gladly share my impressions on the build and comparing the feel of both systems on FSX duties.  I doubt I will do actual benching because of time and patience constraints but you just never know.

Please let me know if there is interest in this and I might even post some build pics.  Excuse the horrible cell phone shot below.

    Specs:

    CPU - Intel i7 4770K

Motherboard - Asus ROG Maximus VI Impact

GPU- Asus GTX 770 OC Direct CUII 2GB

    Memory - Patriot Viper 2 x 8GB

Case - Fractal Design Node 304

    PSU - Corsair HX 650

    Cooling - Corsair H80i

    Storage - 2x Samsung 840 Pro 240GB

  8. Bought it.

Won't get as much use as my MD-11F unless I really misjudged the cockpit layout and switchology (I can be wrong of course) but that's Boeings fault not PMDG's. But then again I might fall in love one late night hauling freight for "the man" over the Pacific or Canada. I laid out the cash and would happily have paid double to keep PMDG in business and innovating in this market (think about this sentence before you complain about the cost of near perfection). Nothing in aviation (simulation or otherwise) is cheap and this is the closest my hands and posterior will ever get to the big iron so $90 is a steal. Thanks PMDG for being PMDG and please continue to crank these aircraft out at this level of quality.

  9. Agree with the charm part for sure. It is possible that i get into the 777 freighter once its out but the MD-11 is just so much fun to fly. She also has a mean streak if you don't treat her right.

That old girl is a beauty!

  10. Can't wait to see some de-lidded Haswell results. Watching some OC'ing vids online makes it seem like this CPU can crank out some immense heat. I'm personally keeping an eye on IB-E and praying that it will be LGA2011. If they do it right, this might be the "last" of the top line enthusiast CPUs.

From that point on its faster RAM for the new CPU and a full WC loop for all of it and "I'm done" with chasing the hardware rabbit. Will be a relief when there isn't a bigger better CPU out there.

  11. Wowzers!

I love the Hun. There is a book written by Rick Newman and Don Sheppard called "Bury Us Upside Down". It tells the story of "Misty" pilots flying patrol and reconnaissance over the Ho Chi Minh trail in this aircraft and later the F-105.

Maybe a Milviz F-105 or proper F-4 and my FSX dreams would come true. The only thing better would be an SR-71 and then my entire aviation library would be flyable.

    Thanks Milviz!

  12. Wow... All kinds of butt-hurt going on in this thread. Real 0/0 IMC is a hell of a thing. Never been in a position where I thought I wasn't coming home but if "pulling the handle" was thing I thought would get me home to the wife and kids in one piece then I pull it.

I am sure we are all "super-pilot" here and have no issues flying approaches to minimums dead cold our first time out but I'm more than inclined to cut a guy some slack for saving his skin in a tight spot. Until you fly a mile in "Tim's" trousers you just never know what really happened.

Glad a pilot lives to fly another day, sad that CAPS had a failure, surprised at the attitudes.

  13. Ahh...the PMDG MD-11F. Was ever a finer simulation of heavy metal ever produced? Methinks not! But seriously, as simmers we often fixate too much on what we don't have rather than what we do.

Would I love an MD-11 refresh and touch up? That's like asking if I want bacon. Of course, and where is this bacon you speak of? Are we getting one? Rob, Ryan, and these forums say no so I'm just going to go ahead and enjoy flying the wings off of what I do have. It's possible the 777F will lure me away with FDX routes but my "Mighty 3-holer" will still likely be my main mount for cargo runs.

So if you are part of the PMDG MD-11 cult and find yourself upset because there will not be a v2 power up your existing MD-11 and let "B****ing Betty" know your troubles. She always listens to mine.

  14. Virtavia makes niche aircraft based on some outdated and mostly "eye-candy" models.  I personally love their fleet and own the SR-71 and F-105.  Worth it in my experience as long as "in-depth" is not your thing.  I spent many a night reading about "Thud" pilots in Vietnam and I can say their model "purged" my demon.

  15. I'd pay it.

Cannot guarantee I'd be a perfect beta tester but your products are top notch and I'd be glad to help the process along. All I ask in return for my investment is that someone... Anyone... Please paint me a vintage Aerolinias Argentinas livery to do my flights with (lol... I realize this is unlikely and would still pay for a pre-release product from you even if no one did).

Seriously though I have had great experiences with your products.

  16. STARs and SIDs are traffic management tools to make large quantities of arrivals and departures act in a predictable way. This streamlines workload for ATC and as a result you will often get amended instructions depending on quantity of traffic. Both tools are to be used in conjunction with ATC instruction and aren't necessarily a replacement for ATC handling. A favorite of mine is at KATL when they use the CADIT SID. The instruction given by controllers is often "Delta xxx RNAV to MPASS". This takes outbound flights as far as CADIT at 10000ft where they usually receive a clearance to begin their cruise climb (usually after 10 mins).

If you want realism listen to LiveATC and do what they are saying or get on VATSIM. It is realistic to use charts in flightsim, unfortunately it is not realistic to single pilot fly an airliner into a controlled airspace without real ATC saying something. You can always get RC4 if you want to avoid VATSIM.

    Good Luck
