I was using the free cam to check the scenery not realising that it didnt load the scenery around the camera when you get a few miles from the plane, but it was loading the buildings so I didnt suspect the draw distance.

Sorry for the noob question im new to X Plane.Ive managed to get buildings and street lights into X Plane 9.70 from openstreetmap but I never see any trees, unless I download and install someones elses work.Hope you camn help thanks.Ive got opensceneryx installed and the paths in osm2xp seem to be correct, im not getting any errors and the scenery loads ok, just no trees, even though osm2xp tells me its found a forrest in the scenery and the build is successful.

Is it a time consuming painful process to achieve that or is it easy when you know how? I got lost in the many tools and converters in FSX and lost interest, I hope that doesnt happen again with XP.

I agree, Its a sad time for me cos Ive flown Microsoft FS since 1981, but ive been waiting for XPlane to get as good as what XP10 is. Its time to focus totally on it now and leave Microsoft to do something special to entice me back, but I cant see that happening. Its tough to call cos ones a full on sim and the others an eye candy generator, but after trying MS Flight and then buying XP10 and VFR terrain im glad to turn my back on all those MSFS annoyances and take on something better that just needs a bit of patience with the 3D, otherwise ive got a sim built for eating up the terrain and knowing im getting the best flight physics on the planet.

I actually did everything in your video already but i had a problem with 1 plane called A2A spitfire, I tried all kinds of reg edits etc but its wouldnt work so I had to install FSX, SP1 and FSX acceleration on the C drive, then deleted the whole folder and told my registry to look at the FSX on my D drive and it worked.I will save both your posts and follow them next time and hope they work, because I used a different FSX registry tool and that could be the reason I had problems.

Hi, your video is no longer working. I have moved my FSX from C driver to another hard drive, then formatted C drive and installed win7 again and used the reg fix tool, and even though FSX runs ok theres things like sim connect and fsuipc that dont work and therefore some planes dont work properly anymore. Does your solution fix this?Thanks

I had this problem and your advice didnt work for me, what I had to do is open the scenery folder then click in the "look in:" drop list and select the scenery folders main folder, so if the scenery i was adding was say addon scenery/manchester/scenery i need to select the manchester folder from the drop list.

I hear that bro, im just checking to see if some genius has made a program that makes it easy to add lighting effects yet. Thats all ive ever really looked for in scenery design cos I fly at dusk/night mostly.Thanks for the help looking into that now.Do you mean proper glowing effect lights or just colour lights? the effects lights have a bigger view distance so they are the little buggars im after. I somehow managed it long time ago i think i used apt210 and manipulated it somehow and i made street lights for about 2000 miles, looked awesome.btw i tried fsx twice and it simply wasnt as good as it should have been, they need to make a sim thats visually stunning, as it should be these days, and directly mainly at scenery designers and take that damn restriction off the view distance of objects.

Thats what I was gonna do, im using auto trees and so far over a radius of about 200 miles I need to remove trees from 1 lake a nd 1 runway, which is pretty impressive compared to the first version I used years ago.

Whats happened to this place, people used to jump all over questions here, seems very dead now.

Is it possible to take a scenery object (API etc) and add a light effect to it (like a street light) or even better download a street light macro with nice glowing light effect suing the default fs9 effects?Ive literally spent years on and off trying to achieve this but I always get stuck either with the exported files not being recognised by scenery design programs or errors that I cant find a solution for.Thanks

Its been a while since I made scenery for fs2004 and ive forgot which programs were best. I want to place trees easily and then make them available for others without them needing to install the software (like Lagos and EZ scenery etc).I remember the old way with apt210 was to import a photo of the terrain then create trees then run fs2004 to check they were positioned properly, is this the only painful technique or is there a newer program available that lets me place objects while fs2004 is running (like with AFCAD).Ive been away for so long that a lot of the stuff people here have taught me has been forgotten but with a little help I can soon pick it up again.Thanks very much
