  1. Yes I did try the manual - did not understand it! Hence my question.I'm gone!
  2. Just one more question please, if I may?Assuming I'm on A/P and HDG. When I notice the localiser should I just be pressing the NAV button? Do I depress the HDG button beforehand? Should I be configuring anything else please? I do have my NAV1 radio configured correctly. Thanks again.
  3. Thanks Dan - very much appreciated! I'm learning tons! Thanks Nick - tons of useful information there that I did not know.
  4. Hi Gents.I'm afaraid I have some more really basic questions - this time about the approach. I'm not yet using the FMC (fear!!!!) and am doing short hops here and there.Q1 I'm on autopilot ( alt and hdg ) and as soon as I start to bank the autopilot cuts out - what I really want is to maintain the alt until the glideslope is captured (or is this bad practice?)Q2 I've not used the Approach function - at what point should I press the approach button and, what other autopilot functions should be working please? And out of interest if you can spare the time, do real pilots actually use the Approach function? (I know they will land manually). Thanks as always to you guys.Kind regards
  5. HelloI had to re-install FSX and since then all has been fine but I'm never seeing a glideslope indicator on any aircraft - the ILS is showing though.Anyone got any suggestions please? Thanks.
  6. Thanks for replying - The TOCWS was giving me a warning - and it was the condition levers, even though I'd set them - must not have done it properly.I think I understand your prop pitch key advice. Thanks for your support. Thanks for replying - that explains why I had no fires in the past. I recall when I originally configured it, I set it for no fires. When I reinstalled I forgot all about the config manager. So I've been flying badly!!Having invested so much time with this beast, realism is obviously key so I'm keeping it set.I'm flying again, thanks to all who kindly replied.Kind regards.
  7. Thanks for replyingInterestingly, when I was flying the plane for just a few flights before having to re-install, I never touched the condition levers. Sure enough, the levers were not psuhed forward. I pushed them forward but still had a fire in both engines. Is there a function key for the condition levers please?Still lookingfor solutions to my fires!regards. Thanks for replying Dan - I'm ashamed to say that I do not know what a TOCWS button is nor where it is. Is it Caution and Warning? On the CAP there are only L Beta and R Beta lights showing before take off. Regards
  8. HelloHaving just recently got my engines to start with the kind help of some of you kind chaps I was forced to completely re-install FSX and all other add-ons including the J41.Since then I start the engines as normal - all ok. I taxi to the runway but, on starting my take off run, within a few seconds, the engines burst into flames.I'm not very experienced as a pilot (nor a fireman!). Can someone please tell me the usual reasons for engines catching fire. Thanks and regards.
  9. Thank you PaulI'll give it a bash!
  10. Even though my acceleration disk is about two years old?Sorry I'm confused - I bought the acceleration disk about two years ago. Once I have installed that must I then download and install SP1 and SP2 please? Thanks.
  11. Too late I'm afraid - I'm in the process of uninstalling. Can someone please advise me - should I be installing FSX, then Accelerator pack which I have then SP1 and SP2?Do I have to install the acceleration pack? Does it just contain more aircraft or is it required before installing SP1/ SP2 please? Thanks in advance.
  12. As always thanks again to you guys for your support and encouragement. I'm encouraged enough to persevere with it and to bear in mind your suggestions however I will be back here with a whole stack of basic questions!Kind regards
  13. Thanks David - I am doing the uninstall because I bought FSX Traffic and it does not work - it seems to find duplicate traffic installed even though there is nothing obvious in SimObjects. Need to take out everything!
  14. I'm sure I saw somewhere a tool for totally removing all traces of FSX before doing a totally clean re-install - does any one know where please? Thanks
  15. Thanks SeanThat's my problem. having never used an FMC before, and starting from scratch with it, it's impossible to know what the tutorial actually means. I'm entering data but have not much idea as to what it means. But you experts must have, at some point, been beginners at the FMC.Perhaps I should put asid the J41 and use an easier plane to learn it adn you suggest. Thanks again.
  16. Thank you Chris - am grateful.Does anyone know of an FMC guide for Idiots please?
  17. HiThanks to some of you guys I finally got my engines started and have been flying without the FMC. Now it's time to look at the FMC and it's my first time with any FMC so my questions are naive:1. When I reach the end of the config of the FMC on page 49 itsays the FMC is now initialised and ready for use. Earlier I pressed the ACTIVE button - is it now primed or must I do something else to invoke it?2. I could not find a way of saving my manual programming of the FMC and did not want to go searching through the FMC by clicking everything in sight so I saved using the FSX ; function - will this save the FMC content? Since posting this I just went back in and loaded my saved FSX flight but the FMC was off so I answered my own question - so is there a way of saving a flight in the FMC from anywhere in the FMC please?3. I put all the data in but frankly a lot of it is meaningless - a STAR???? Does anyone know of a basic FMC guide for noddys like me please? Thanks!
  18. Thanks Roy!RegardsAidan Bartley Thanks for that.Kind regardsAidan Bartley
  19. Thanks to everyone who has offered support especially Nick and Roy - yes it worked! - I set up for a Cessna first and then everything worked first time - what a relief! I started the engines by following the tutorial but I missed out the FMC- I'm hoping I go back with the engines started and configure the FMC.One minor disappointment is engine sound. When I'm right up next to an engine (outside view) and crank up the gas there is no discernible change in sound - is this normal please?Again thanks to you all - I'm really grateful.Kind regardsAidan Bartley
  20. Hi NickFirstly thank-you - I really appreciate your time and input.I would never be so arrogant as to say I've done everything correctly although I have tried this over 30 times.I'm following the Pilot's tutorial documentation as supplied with the software - it's this I've been attempting. Having tried about 20 times I found this forum and came across the feathering posting - I applied that too and have been for the last ten or so times and yes, they are feathering as I watch them turn.So effectively I get to the point in the tutorial where it tells me to wait until the left engine stabilises - it says it should take about 30 secs - it really takes about three minutes but then I may not know what a stable engine looks like. After three minutes the engine cuts off and cannot be restarted. If that is not enough detail I'm happy to do it again and note down any specifics if you request any and if your kindness continues - I'a always amazed at you guys who give up their time and share their knowledge.I can start with a different plane and then change to the J41 and that works but I really want to follow through the tutorial flight from start to finish, especially as I have no experiecen at all of FMS's.Have to say though that it's a joy to fly - have mastered the basics and have done a few short hops from Carlise to Newcastle with satisfactory landings - an amazing bit of software! Thanks again NickKind regardsAidan Bartley
  21. Thanks Graham - the blades are feathering. I've been through the tutorial about 30 times and the engines start but then cutout - I have to give up as life is too short. Thanks for your replyMr. Aidan Vincent Bartley
  22. HelloI'm very interested in using VOX ATC comms. I use Vista and have what appears to be a common problem in that the mic volume is far too low. There are numerous reports of this on many Windows Forums but I have never found a solution.Am wondering if anyone is using any VOX software with a mic and VISTA and if they came across this low volume problem and how it was solved please?ThanksAidan Bartley
  23. Thanks Nick Am really grateful - I'll give that a bash!Kind regardsAidan (Bartley)Nick - just tried your suggestions and they all worked - thanks for your clear instructions. Now I can fly the plane in a basic fashion, time to try the FSM - my first time with any FSM!RegardsAidan (Bartley)
  24. Thanks for the reply Nick. Sorry I should have been more specific. I set the ALT to 5000 but the A/P took it up to 3000 and stopped. On the next flight I set the ALT to 5000 and the A/p just kept it rising past 8000. What are the ALT and ALt Sel buttons for please? The manuals are really assuming I should know and I'm deeply stupid. My question should have read, What is the procedure for setting the ALT when not using the FMC?RegardsAidan Vincent Bartley
  25. Thanks for the replies. I'm not going to bother with the start procedure (I have been following the procedure to the letter)I'll use your advice about selecting another aircraft and then switching.ThanksAidan Vincent Bartley
