  1. Hi I have a GTX460 installed, it has been running perfectly and never given any trouble until today. I had opened up the computer to give it its 6 monthly clean out as I have already had a very expensive video card (8800GTX) cook itself. I removed the 460 without issue (I needed it out to get access to other areas) and cleaned the entire computer out with very low pressure air. I even lock the fans in place so the air cant stuff the bearings. I reinstalled the card and fired everything back up only to find I had no display. I rechecked all the connections and made sure the card was seated correctly but still no joy. I reconnected the monitor to the dodgy standard video out and when I restarted I go the EVGA 460 not found message. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and such but it keeps telling me the card isn't there. The computer has had a new hard drive fitted last Friday and had the original C drive cloned over to it. It has been working fine. I've pulled the card out half a dozen times to look for bent or damaged contacts etc but nothing is visible. I have this horrid feeling I've some how managed to bugger the card.
  2. So what should I get? This is a bit TFTFM unfortunatley
  3. Hi I would like to put a separate hard drive into my puter just for FSX and FS-9. This is what I have now CPU; Intel Pentium G6950 @ 2.80GHz RAM 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532MHz (7-7-7-20) Motherboard EVGA 111-CD-E630 (CPU 1) Graphics VA2226w (1680x1050@59Hz) 1024MB GeForce GTX 460 (EVGA Hard drive 156GB Seagate ST3160815AS ATA Device (SATA) I dont know much about this sort of stuff, FSX works fairly well for me now unless its on the deck somewhere like New York then it gets a bit sticky. I've been told my hard drive is the weak point and I should get something called a "Raptor" Very handy cept I wouldnt know a raptor if it up n bit me. Any advice gratefully accepted Ta much Dannielle
  4. Hi again I followed the instructions on the saitek forum and got rid of the files it said to. That fixed the cetering problem (Huzzah!) but now the damn throttle, prop and mixture levers wont work at all. Any suggestions? other than wrapping the useless piece of bat do around a tree! ta much Danni
  5. Hi I have a Saitek pro flight wheel and throttle box set up and a Logitech very basic joystick. Recently when using the stick my aircraft would steer very well on the ground and when I got it of the deck it would roll right and and would refuse to trim out. I thought it might be the stick as it was quite old and I was to tight to buy a new one. Now the Saitek wheel is doing the same thing. I had a look in the cailibrate bit and sure enough is was biased to one side. I did a calibration on it and it came good. Next time I fired up FSX it did the same thing again and does it every time I restart the sim. Any help would be most appreciated and will probably stop me hurling the thing out the window. One more problem, is there a replacement for those horrid pots Saitek uses in the throttle box (the little yellow ones) They are becoming a pain in the bum and are the main reason why I'm close to chucking the whole lot out the aforementioned window! Ta Much Danni
  6. Thanks SamUnfortunatley the problem was a big bigger than just the card.It turned out the processor didnt like the card so I ended up with a new mother board new processor and a pile of other goodies that I needed to make the stinking card work. Started of cost 300 bucks ended up close to a grand. The good bit is FSX now goes like buggery!!! no stutters no lock ups and I can have real time weather without taking a hit to frame rates. I'm well pleased with it.Thank you for you assist.Dannielle
  7. HiI bought a GTX 460 to replace my 8800GTX that burned out.The new card is seated correctly in its slot (same slot as the old one came out off) and the two power plugs are connected and secured.Problem is when I reboot and try to install the driver I get an error message that says it cant find the card.Ive tried reinstalling the card but the system wont recognise it. Have I cocked something up or is the new card a dud?TIADannielle
  8. Thank you for the response.I'm using FS9 and FSX, I still find FS9 to be better than X in some ways.I'll go for the 460 1GB, just wanted a second opinion, tar muchDannielle
  9. HiI have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX that cost me a lot of coin and now the overpriced sack of monkey vomit has cooked itself. I pulled it apart and it had eff all heat transfer compound around the GPU and what was left was grey and a bit like blue tack. I'm haveing no joy getting any warranty out of NVIDIA, they say it has to be dust causing the problem and wont have that it was built poorly. It aint dust as I'm religous about keeping my puter clean. So now I'm left with a dud card (10 bucks says no way I can buy a replacement GPU chip n bung that in) and having to outlay more cash to get a new one. The local computer guy wants to sell me a GTX 460 which is supposed to be better than the 8800GTX, should I get that (not of him though, he's a complete theif) or is there something better? Not overly worried about price as long as it doesnt get to silly. I can shop around as well.TIADanniellePS what does one do without flight sim? I'm having serious withdrawals and my need therapy :)
  10. Looks like I will have to part with some more of my hard earned! Thanks againDannielle
  11. Thanks heaps for that. What does ""overclock" mean?CheersDannielle
  12. HiI am having so much trouble with FSX I'm about to give the puter a good kicking! When I bought the thing I lashed out and bought the Nvidia 8800GTX card and had to get the power supply upgraded to run it.FSX ran ok without to many add ons and the sliders set mid range but I kept getting "out of memory" messages or the scenery kept either locking up or turning to a undetailed fog.I just upgraded to 4GB of RAM but I'm still having the scenery issue. It runs ok for a while then clags out. FS 9 does the same thing if I change veiws quickly. My system is as follows;HP Pavilion a6120a PC Vista 32bitIntel Pentium D9254Gb RAM DDR2 NVidia 8800GTXDefrag with Ultimate defragI went back to place of purchase and all they could tell me was my proccessor is causing bottle neck and its going to cost me 250 bucks to get a better one.Any advice would be really appreciated, I'm seriously over my head here and I dont want to be wasting any more money if its not going to work.TIADannielle
