  1. Hi guys,

I'm working overseas and on the move a lot, so I've been considering a laptop for Aerofly, which is going to be my sim of choice in future. I would also like to add that I intend to go full on into VR not long after I purchase my custom made laptop. So, my question is, will the following spec machine suffice for future development of this sim:

    Intel 8700k CPU

    16Gb RAM

    512MB M2 SSD (For O/S only)

    1TB M2 SSD (For sim)

2TB Seagate hybrid drive for storage

    Geforce 1070GTX with 8GB VRAM

    17.5 inch 4k screen

    Windows 10 Professional

Obviously I can add additional RAM in future, and have space for an additional 2 drives in the machine. Especially interested in the toll that VR may take on the sim. Also, any word on a helicopter at all?

    Many thanks,

    AJ.

  2. Hi community,

Yes, I know that there is a separate forum for this, but I was hoping that my post would not get lost.....

I am looking for some advice about an upgrade for FSW please. Currently, I am running the sim on an i5 3570k, with 16GB ram, a 256 ssd, and a Gtx 660ti video card.

I was going to do a full upgrade, but after looking at performance comparison for the new i5 kabylake, I cannot justify the cost, so I would like a suggestion please for an upgrade:

    Keep my cpu and mobo.

    Upgrade to 32gb ram.

    Upgrade to a 512gb SSD

    Upgrade to Windows 10

Do not know which video card to buy?

Recommendations please community? I love this sim, and would love to get more out of it. As usual, all advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

  3. Hi guys,

Thanks very much for your advice, the scenery is up and running in FSW now.

I have to admit, even though there are a few things missing, it still looks pretty good. I intend to be doing some more flying today after I've completed my language studies. I'm an old Londoner anyway, and used to go to Southend airport frequently. Currently living in Perth, Western Australia, but still there is no payware scenery available for YPPH. I think I know why though.

Great community we have here. Thanks once again.

    Andrew.

  4. A32xx,

I have been reading a number of posts about importing the scenery, but so far every time I've tried, it has crashed the sim to desktop.

I've been copying the Scenery and Texture folders from UK2000 VFR1 int a new folder in the Addon Scenery of FSW, and manually modifying the scenery.cfg as per a few readme files on the web, but it's still causing a crash. I also tried the same with the standalone Southend scenery, but same result.

Are you able to advise how you got it installed please?

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

  5. I also forgot to mention, one thing that I absolutely love in this sim, is the new 'landing view' from the cockpit. I feel that this needs to be zoomed out a little, but of course, this entire forum is an ongoing learning process for Dovetail.

Yesterday I did a quick flight from Friday Harbor to Orcas Islands in the Cherokee, and with the latest patch, it feels to me like the flight model has also been improved, thanks Dovetail for that alone.

Now, if only I could get a working helicopter, and also import some of my UK2000 scenery, I will be, as we used to say in London: 'Well pleased'.

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

  7. One very nice tweak that works in FSW and makes a noticeable difference and improvement in visuals is manually modifying the runway lights as per FSX, certainly looks a lot better in my opinion. Has anybody found anything equivalent to HideInfoText in the FSX config file?

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

  8. Pretty happy and impressed with what I've seen so far. Like a lot of others here, I've been simming since the days of Sublogic. Also a real world pilot with single and twin time. In all of that time, I've seen some big changes, and unfortunately, many complaints, which I feel have not been justified. I still fly FSX a lot, and do a lot of testing and tweaking. As a result, I'm used to reinstalling FSX on average every quarter :-)

One thing that I love about FSW is that I am yet to have the sim crash on me. :-) even though I've attempted to tweak a few things. There are however two questions that I will put to Cryss if possible please:

    1. I seem to have had a slow down in frame rates since the last update, has anybody else noticed?

    2. Is there any intentions to work a bit more on the colour palette? Sim still looks a little washed out to me.

I admit to not having the best PC in the world, but Cryss, FSW has prompted me to do a rebuild just for this sim, so thanks to you and all of your team for all of the work.

    Cheers,

    Andrew.

  9. Hi community,

Would just like to get some opinions if possible please.

Up until last year, I had been happily simming with a Saitek X-52. This had been my faithful controller for around six years or so. Anyway, the beast finally died in a few of the axis.

A good friend of mine purchased me a new one in January as a birthday present, but this one has decided to break. It feels like the shaft has broken within the lower box that holds the controller. It still moves, but below the metal spring there is a round plate that seems to "catch" when moving the joystick.

Unfortunately, we have lost the contact details of the seller, and with Saitek / Mad Catz recently being purchased, I have my doubts that I would get a replacement anyway.

Which brings me to my current problem:

I have seen online reasonably priced, a USED X-52 Pro. Can anybody comment as to whether the build quality of the Pro is any better please?

I've also been following the Thrustmaster T16000m HOTAS, which looks a good buy to me. Would anybody care to give me an opinion please?

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

  10. Hi community,

Firstly, I am not trying to pan Aerosoft, nor am I trying to start any flame wars on this forum, I just really have a single basic question.

I do not have the most powerful computer; I have an i5 with 8Gb RAM, a 250Gb SSD, and a 660Ti video card. I am not in a position at the moment where I can upgrade unfortunately.

I just want to know if Aerosoft scenery is any harder on a computer than any other freeware / payware out there? I tend to fly a lot of short regional flights in Europe, but at quite a few of the AS airports, I seem to get low frames on final approach. I've tweaked and tweaked lots of things, but I get a feeling that there is just a very high level of detail in the AS sceneries. I mostly fly between the UK, France, Germany, Austria etc, and I will be tracking down some freeware airports such as De Gaulle.

I also recall reading once that the default scenery for France in FSX was frame hungry, but I cannot recall why exactly. I use FTX Global, and REX Overdrive only.

    Appreciate some opinions.

    Many thanks,

    Andrew.

  11. hi community,

I have no idea what Aerosim have done with the 787, but I thought I would drop my finding here to see if anybody else may be on the same track as myself; I am talking of course about the dreaded AS_B8.dll error.

Like a lot of us, I have emailed Aerosim about this error, only to get the return email that I should reinstall my FSX. Obviously, this is hardly a choice for most of us who invest a lot of time installing and tweaking our sims. But now, I am starting to wonder if this failure is some kind of copy protection on the aircraft, my case in point:

Recently I did a fresh rebuild of my computer, formatted all of the drives, etc. Fresh install of FSX to a dedicated drive. Removed most of the MS default aircraft and missions, tested, all OK. Installed all of my scenery, tested OK. Installed my favourite aircraft (including the 787) tested, all OK.

Installed a new GPS into my aircraft and modified the panel.cfg accordingly, and all worked except the 787, which had the .dll crash.

Uninstalled the aircraft, did a gauge clean, a registry scan and clean, removed all remnants of the Aerosim files, rebooted again, and tried a reinstall. Same crash with the same error message.

Tried the above five times, and always crashed my sim. Remember, I have added nothing in between this process. So, I downloaded a tool, and decided to take a look at the suspect .dll myself. I noted a few errors, mostly in the formatting of the final lines of the .dll. All other entries within are JPGs for representation of the cockpit. Tried my modified .dll, same crash again. I was at a point of being out of ideas, when I decided to take a look at the Windows registry.

Ran regedit and did a search for both Aerosim, and AS_B8.dll. How about this........in both cases, it blue screened my computer! Just doing a registry search for those entries! I've editied registries plenty of times before, and NEVER had a blue screen.

I am starting to suspect that this could possibly be some sort of anti-piracy measure. Would anybody here agree? It's the only logical conclusion that I can come to. Especially unhappy about the blue screening, I will edit some other parts of my Windows registry today as a test.

Would love to hear some other opinions.

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

  12. Hi community,

Recently, I have had something very unusual happen with FSX on my computer.

A couple of nights ago, I reinstalled FSX for probably the fifth or sixth time this year. Over that time, I have also installed a stack of add-ons, as I have been a tester at times.

I completed a fresh install of FSX and acceleration two nights ago. When I ran the sim, all seemed to be fine, then about 2 minutes in, things started to lock up, frame rates dropped to about 4fps, and it dropped out to a black screen. There was a message in the system event logs relating to an NV7 failure. I do not have the log now because I'm at work.

The thing is, I've never overclocked my card or my CPU, and Nhancer claims that the temperature of the card is sitting at around 30 degrees Celsius. My case was a little dusty, but I've vacuumed that out, and I brought the card into work today to clean. When I googled the error message, somebody on a forum stated that this was a driver issue, and that they had to reinstall Windows. I have to admit that after so many changes to my system, my Windows 7 is *probably* a bit of a mess.

So, has anybody else on these forums ever had a similar error? My card is reasonably clean, and my computer has a 680 watt PSU to drive it.

    SPECS:

    i5 3760k not overclocked (Haswell)

    ASrock H55m Mobo

    8Gb RAM

    1x128Gb SSD (OS)

    1x128Gb SSD (For FSX)

    1x 4Tb WD Caviar Black

    GeForce 660Ti 2Gb

    Many thanks,

    Andrew.

  13. Hi community,

I'm hoping to get a few pointers on what scenery to load for my next iteration of FSX please.

Unfortunately, my sim recently crashed, and I was planning a reinstall anyway. But I'm especially looking for advice in this case, should anybody care to advise me as to what is the best items to purchase.

First off, I am somewhat limited in the amount of free time I get to fly my sim; usually only about twice per week. Within that, I am confined to flights that max out at about 2 hours or so. So, I have decided upon my next lot of regions that I want to fly, but I would like some recommendations on which sceneries to use please.

Firstly, and no disresect intended, I do not wish to user either FTX Global, Global Vector, or Landclass, as they tend not to play very well with my somewhat limited system. In Europe I tended to get black patches everywhere.

So, I am currently looking for good landclass / textures / scenery (the airports can wait) for:

    Alaska

    Japan

    Thailand

Those are the three sectors that I would like to fly next. Unfortunately so far, I have not been able to find realistic looking scenery for Thailand.

So, if anybody has any experience with these areas or can make some suggestions, please do.

Many thanks in advance to this great community.

    Andrew.

  14. Ron,

Your paints are absolutely first class I must say, well done!

Strangely enough, after following these threads for the last couple of weeks, I've started to fly the Carenado A36 again. Currently loving it with the updates, and think I'll use this as my single until the new Socata TB20 gets released in a few weeks by Justflight.

I have a special connection with the Socata's; I did most of my hours on them. Can't believe it's taken so many years for a payware one to be released though.

    All the best,

    Andrew.

  15. Very nice paint Ron, but I recently removed the aircraft from my sim.

I quite often go through stages of changing things; at the moment I'm more into the tubeliners, flying out of London City airport.

In about six months, I will probably do the big re-format again, and do some more GA. Now if only I could have suitable ATC for the UK, and scenery that doesn't drag my computer to it's knees.....but then we can all dream, can't we? LOL.

    Cheers,

    Andrew.

  16. Hi community,

In recent times, I've noticed that with my FSX install (to it's own dedicated SSD) it reaches a point of around 60-70% full where my frame rates really start to suffer. At this time, I cannot afford to upgrade my system, so I've decided to effectively change the way I fly.

Usually, I do fresh installs based around different world regions. Currently I have most of my scenery set up for the U.K and Western Europe, and I do relatively short flights in 737 and Avro RJ type aircraft.

Today, I intend to modify my sim. I'm going to remove most of my large payware airports, as well as my airliners, and concentrate on exploring small airfields in the United Kingdom, mostly using GA types. I'm assuming that if I do this (with a new FSX config) I might get some acceptable frame rates back, which leads me to my original question:

I know that the ai traffic makes a big hit on frames, and currently I am running MyTraffic 2013. I must admit that I have mainly run with defaults, and not got to know the program so well. So, can somebody tell me please if it's possible to use the program to run only GA traffic please? If possible, I would like all of the airliners and "fast movers" to be gone. I know that this may detract from realism, but I just want to practice my GA stuff, that's all.

Also, I recall seeing a graphic in the past; it displayed an FSX world scenery "grid". I would like to find this again so that I can disable areas I will not be flying into. Can anybody help with this too?

    Many thanks,

    Andrew.

  17. Hi community,

I need some advice please on new hardware. Please note that I do not want to overclock, I just need to know if I have any other options outside of my planned ugrade. I have not kept up with hardware development.

Currently I am running an Intel i5 3570k Ivy Bridge at 3.4Ghz, with 8Gb RAM, a Geforce 660ti Video card, a 128Gb SSD for the sim, and Windows 7 64-bit.

At the moment, frame rates at 1920x1080 on my Samsung 27" monitor are nearly perfect, but I still get some lag with texture loading despite the fact that I have optimised my sim. As I see it, my only true option for an upgrade will be to buy a new motherboard, and an Intel i7 4790k Devils Canyon @ 4.00Ghz.

Is this my only option? Or are there any slightly cheaper CPU on the way that will give me a slight frame rate boost? The 4790k is an expensive option for me.

I appreciate any and all advice.

    Many thanks,

    AJ.

  18. memorgan,

Thanks for the advice, but it did not work. Think I have a dud; the stick is only about a month old. Did some tests, and at a central point with no pressure, the aircraft tracks right in the X axis at about 1 degree every five seconds. Also, the latest Saitek drivers cause a hardware bang in my device manager. Tried over and over again to calibrate, same issue every time. Even changed my settings to easy, same result.

The sad thing for me is that last year on Youtube there was a video explaining how you can set deadzones in the controller to avoid exactly this problem.

Might have to avoid Saitek hardware now, seems their quality control has declined.

  19. Hi community,

Hoping that somebody can help me with an issue with my new X52 in FSX. At first glance, it would appear that the joystick is not calibrated correctly, but I have been through the calibration process many times, and in Windows 7 64-bit, everything with the controller appears to be fine. There is no spiking or anything like that.

The problem is, within the sim, ANY aircraft will gradually roll to the right. The angle of bank is so small that one has to zoom in to the AH to actually see the problem. It's getting rather annoying now. Last night after a takeoff my aircraft had drifted nearly thirty degrees to the right.

I have modified all of the difficulty settings in the sim as well; even setting everything to easy. My X52 is currently connected to a USB3 port on my system, I've read that this can cause problems, but nothing like what I have. All of the LEDs are active on the device, so it's getting power.

The only thing I can think of trying now is to modify the deadzones, but I don't fully know how to do this. I assume that if you "open up" a deadzone within one of the joystick coordinates that the areas within that deadzone will be ignored, is this correct?

Last night I opened this up and modified the X coordinate, but the problem still occurred. Problem is also there with or without the Saitek software installed. Perhaps I just have a flaky joystick. Can anybody offer any suggestions please?

    Many thanks,

    Andrew.

  20. Fisheye;

Once again thanks for all of your help. One thing that I'm happy about is that when I start to create my new profiles (Eg: VFR UK) it will give me the ability to disable IFR traffic but keep VFR traffic. This is awesome. The only thing I do not know (and I will contact the author) is whether I can disable the GSX couatl application when I'm flying GA. After all, how many Cessna's need a pushback?

    Many thanks again,

    Andrew.
