  1. Hi,

Is this simply the same Procedure as with the previous version or are there specific issues that make these changes necessary?

Because I departed from a clean install EHAM 1.3 yesterday without any mods to it, just the scenery listed above TENL in the library and the mods listed in the ORBX forum, and both airport and the city looked brilliant. I have seen no compatibility issues at all thus far and would encourage anyone to just install it and see what you get before making any mods.

Edit: are you aware that in your screenshot the fire practice fake 747 is missing and there is a large JUMBO SUPERMARKET around that area that should not be there?

  2. Not complaining, only trying to contribute: with this DLL installed I regularly find AI traffic bouncing around from tens of thousands of feet below the earth to way up high into the stratosphere. Using SimcontrolX for iPad it is easy to monitor AI and the behaviour, I am trying to find a trend but haven't as of yet. I have seen it happening to UTT Phenom 100 and FAIB A320, for example.

Also I regularly see traffic landing miles short of the threshold and rolling onto the runway, vacating via the first exit. Or flaring way too high and then dropping like a brick.

One think to remember, OLC Asia was a product from Orbx as a developer but these days Orbx is also the publisher of tens of developers who are among the best in the profession.  Let's not punish these good guys because the boss makes us cringe on the OLC Asia business.

That may very well be true, but I find their support with other products  (Edinburgh and True Earth Netherlands in my case) also lacking recently. I am not going to 'punish' anyone but the days that I bought OrbX products on release day without even checking the screenshots, are over. When reading their forums I can not help but get the strong feeling that they simply lost interest and stopped caring, despite Nicks best efforts.

  4. Hi all,

The PMDG NGX for P3D and the 2.5 release have brought me back to flightsimming after a year.

I am impressed by both packages, but I have this one phenomenon that I was wondering about if anybody else sees this behaviour.

I took the NGX for a spin from Heraklion into the mountains, and switched on the terrain radar. Immediately FPS dropped from about 20 to 10-11. (terrain radar looks great though!)

I of course switched it off immediately, but I did not regain my FPS back. :-(

    Is this a known issue?

  5. Hi,

It looks great Erik, such an immersion in those pictures! I don't want to bother you with asking all the addons you are using, but could you at least hint at what AI set you are using? I just have a fresh install so I'm once again looking for the best solution :).

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I use UT2 with the latest Summer 2013 schedule, and some additional paints and models installed (FAIB 737 and A320, UTT 787 and 7478, etc.)

ASNext, REX Texture Direct4 and the DX10 fixer are my other important addons.

  6. Hi All,

I have searched around for this, but I could not figure out if there was a solution possible for this.

Some of my payware airports have dark ground textures during the night. This is especially bothersome during winter, when contrast with the white surroundings is quite big.

Two airports I have found that have this behaviour:

    - FlyTampa Vienna 2.5

    - FSDG Sharm el Sheikh (Aerosoft)

I have the latest update of the fixer installed, and the compatibility slider set to full left (scenery).

Is there any solution for this problem?

    Erik

  7. Firstly, Ground Services X. I've heard so much praise about this so I bought it, with very high expectations. Sure, the animations are superb and my airports are much more alive, but I'm not sure some animations is worth 30USD. I had expected more communication with ground staff etc. The only lines of spoken dialougue sounds like it is generated by a speach engine - which it most likely is. It's not directy bad, but I'm not sure it's worth the money.

Amen to that. As others said, I investigate my purchases before I make them but this was one of them that I bought just because of the reviews. It gave me lots of errors, when selecting a gate or service the appearing vehicles made my FPS drop 50% or more and with pushback I often ended up being dumped in some ditch with the towtruck behind my nosewheel crashed in the fuselage. (those who have been there know what I mean)

Also, the COUATL-engine acted very frustrating. Fact is, after removing all FSDreamteam stuff, COUATL and their AddOn Manager I didn't suffer any more CTD or stutters. I reinstalled AES with the 140 credits I bought over the last four years and wondered why I ever considered leaving it behind.

My list of great purchases over the last year is way longer though. With PFP X, FTX Global amongst others.

  8. Thank you, Erik!

Thos shots look terrific! Is that an ENB bloom or the built in FSX bloom option? I might give DX10 a shot, having the option to use DX10-native textures with REX4.

Its default FSX. That is the nice thing about DX10 - using bloom without the slightest FPS hit. Last part of the Flickr-set is with REX4, the new textures are great for use in DX10.

    Have fun,

    Erik

  9. Hi Erik:

It's because the GPU does all of the graphics manipulation with DX10, whereas before, with DX9 - the GPU shared it with the CPU.  You might remember the odd discussion where folks have said that "FSX is a processor-bound application" - well - yes, it was - when using DX9. That's not so much the case any more. What it does mean, though, is that the GPU needs to be a better one - OR - we need to gear our "tweaking" methods to take more notice of settings that impact the GPU - hence my insane fixation with BufferPools!

    All the Best,

    pj

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for the explanation. Any news on the 1.3 update yet? (Steve?) I run FSX on a sort-of dedicated laptop (Lenovo Y500) With an i7 Ivy (3,2GHz) and two GT650's in SLI. Fed by 2x 512GB SSD and 16GB of DDR3 RAM. Would you consider that enough for UsePools=0? I really don't know how to test properly..

Hope you have seen similar configs before..

    Thanks,

    Erik

  10. After flying there IRL last month I'd say you should have the virtual Darwin award for flying there in that weather! ;-)

Being curious - do you have any mountain flying experience? Did you do any preparation for the flight, and what were your means of navigation?

I would like to do some mountain flying in the sim as well, but so far I have not succeeded in creating a good immersion of what it its like in reality..

  11. Hi all,

Just some shots I took over the last few weeks. Add-ons used:

    - PMDG NGX

    - D-ABKC repaint (on Avsim)

    - DX10Fixer (Legacy slider full left)

    - REX 4 Texture Direct (partly)

    - ActiveSky NEXT

    - FTX Global

    - and more..

The new REX combined with ASN and the DX10 fixer offers incredible immersion IMHO. All are highly recommended.

ASN with REX and DX10 really shine here, on approach to runway 19L at Aerosoft's new Oslo Gardermoen:

  12. I imagine, like Ultimate Terrain, they provide a one click solution to disable the product in FSX?

If only that was true. There is no application to manage the installation, and the entries in the Scenery Library cannot be unchecked as FSX won't work properly without them.

Seems you are stuck with FTXV once you install it. I am very interested in their reply to this matter, as this is not the first time they did this. This could very well be the last ORBX purchase from my side, just because of this.

  13.

Can it be done?  Yes.  Can it be done well?  Not especially, and then only with a very expensive high-end gaming laptop.

Depends on what you call expensive.

I have FSX running on a Lenovo Y500:

    i7 3630QM 3.4 GHz

    2x GT650m SLI

    1920x1080px 15/6"

    16GB RAM (Kingston HyperX)

    2X SSD (1x Samsung 840PRO 256GB, 1x 256GB Crucial m4)

With FSX in DX10, using the fixer, all sliders maxed except of roadtraffic (=0) and whater (2.x medium), I get about 18-22 FPS at OMDB with 100% traffic in UT2 with the latest schedule while flying the NGX..

Temps reach about 88 degrees C, using a laptop cooler.

    Erik
