  1. The PMDG Classics DC-6B is the lead off product in a new breed of products for PMDG that will bring some "old school" aviation to our product lines for Xplane, FSX and Prepar3D.  This product will drop for XPlane first- but shortly after will release for FSX and Prepar3D as well- making it the first PMDG product to appear on three different simulation platforms.  (We count FSX and FSX-SE as a single platform...)

    What a relief thanks!

  2. Isn't the flight deck of the 747-800 similar to the 787? Because if so then you could argue some work has already been done to get a 787.

However, that doesn't really make sense to me. 777 is very modern and long haul. 747-400 is very well loved aircraft, big, heavy, long haul and a mix of modern and old gen between -400 and -800. 737 is a small, short/medium haul aircraft with a relitivly modern flight deck

But the 787 is slightly bigger then the 737, and while it can fly a lot longer, 5000 miles more, and can take a much higher fuel volume and max take off weight...it's not all that different. Other then the flight deck is more modern. But, differences between 737 and 777 are huge, 737 and 787 are not, in my opinion.

An older craft would make a bit more sense to me.

The 787's flight deck is all-new. The 777X flight deck is supposed to follow the 787's, per most recent information.  The 787 is a wholly different airplane than the 737, or any Boeing airliner for that matter. Almost all systems are completely electric, no hydraulic systems to speak of. Its a whole new animal.

That said the 787 is the most likely candidate, it is new, there are two models flying with the -10 to come soon.  While I would love it to be a 727 or 757, I doubt it.

  3. Captains-

Most of this post is a cut/paste from my 21FEB15 update, but I wanted to add a few new items and updates...

    DC-6 Update:

There will be a DC-6 update in the near future...  I always forget to update you on this one because it isn't in my "immediate attention" sphere- but it is moving forward and we shall show you that soon enough.

I have been injected with a new hope in life!

  4. For those of you who thought I'd stir the pot about PMDG's *supposedly* upcoming DC-6, you were wrong!

Rather, through my internet searching I have found a Douglas DC-6 for sale, and it looks quite familiar.

Here is the PMDG plane, with both henning van Rensberg in the real thing, and PMDG's paint scheme:

Here is the listing at Controller.com (Can't link pictures):

    http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/aircraft-for-sale/DOUGLAS-DC-6/1958-DOUGLAS-DC-6/1357265.htm

Listed as a 1958 Douglas DC-6B, this plane previously served in Zambia, Yugoslavia, and other places. Currently listed at $1,245,000, some negotiating could bring it down to an affordable $1,000,000 for anyone here who can't wait for a PMDG release; maybe we can crowd fund this purchase? I think this very well is the same plane that Henning and PMDG structured their development after.

Thought you guys would like to see this.

  5. For some reason, people around here have this idea that development is strictly linear. Like most companies, multiple projects happen at once. I do know that I have an insider's perspective, but I've been saying this for quite some time (even prior to having an insider's perspective).

No sense in adding drama to situations where it does not need to exist.

    Before or after the 747?

  6. So I was looking over this again (more like drooling) and couldnt help but notice an interesting panel on the center console. Range... stab... tilt... are we getting a vintage weather radar? I don't see one anywhere, but I see those controls! I would love to get a vintage radar in this, now that PMDG is willing to make one. Also, does anybody know if there will be a way to select a cockpit without the GPS?  PMDG_DC6_Virtual_Cockpit_03.jpg

    That all for radio navigation.

  7. Maybe Later PMDG will decide to make the 777x because Emirates just ordered 150!!! But that will not happen for another 10 years. I think that PMDG is taking a break from BIG JUMBOS and will probably just update old products. A 787 is a far fetched idea because in real life it didn't sell as well as the newer airplanes Boeing is making. The 737 max will probably also be made but only after 2020. PMDG most likely will not make airplanes that are not popular because it will reduce sales.

Well, the 787 has been flying for nearly five years, in service for three. It has reached 1,057 orders as of today, so it is by no means 'didn't sell as well as the newer airplnes Boeing is making', especially seeing as though they are the newer planes Boeing is making.  The main issue is that even when 747 v2 development is complete, say a year from now (as previous cycles would support),  is that although the 787 will have been in service for four years, flying for six, and would likely have enough data to satisfy what PMDG needs, the stretch variant (and second most popular, with 435 orders), the 787-9, will have been in service for only a year, and the longest, the 787-10, still a year away from first flight.

  8. Go to Boeing's YouTube channel (or Airbus) and see their videos on the various flight test campaign items. Recreate these certification tests, it's fun. I also like to test the flight envelope protection systems; you can also try turning off the flight computers and do some approaches and procedures to see how dependent you get on them.

  9. IMO 90+30$ for a 777-300 is "money grabbing"

I will probably get s@!% from the lovely avsim community for saying my opinion, and sorry for not having a signature above...

    EmilvK

Be glad there's no price control for these sorts of things.  If they weren't allowed to charge $90 for the product, it wouldn't be made (likely).

  10. As of now I think that 737-700ER with its 5.500nm capability is the only one that can compete with the 757.

But the 737-700ER doesn't have comparable passenger capacity or short field performance.  The difference between a 757-200 and an A321 or 737-900ER is that when it comes to the A321 and -900ER, when they do things that the 757 does, they barely do it. Plus, the super stretched other smaller narrowbodies don't have a larger variant for increased single aisle route capacity like the 757-300 provides.

  11. SO, I just built a new system, cleans Windows 7, everything.  I have a clean install of FSX on a proprietary hard drive, and I have the 737NGX installed and it works fine.  I installed the 777-200LRF base pack, opened FSX and activated it.  I then installed SP1, and then the -300ER, opened FSX and activated it too.  However, nothing in the aircraft works.  Systems, displays, knobs, missing gear, no animations, etc.  I uninstalled the -300ER, then I uninstalled the 777-200LRF base pack.  I proceeded to reinstall the base pack, I opened FSX and loaded the aircraft, to find the same problem.  This time I was not prompted to activate.  I uninstalled and re-installed again, to no avail.  Any insights?

  12. Logically I wouldn't buy it because most of commercial flying is in Delta colors, and they don't operate the -300ER. However they have a big order coming this fall, so maybe if I buy it I'll make good karma.  You know, $35 is a good tipping point on the $3.5 billion side...

Not getting the -300. The -300ER, on the other hand...

But really. These are two quite different aircraft (with different ICAO codes, may I add) so despite their similarity, let's not confuse them.

When people say -300, they mean -300ER, there's no need to get all pretentious about it.  Plus, with only 60 straight -300's built to the now 721 ER's, calling the 300ER just a 300 doesn't warrant confusion
