It turned out I needed to enter Windows Security settings - App and Browser Control and turn off Smart App Control in order to be able to install it.

Erased post as I now have it working although not at all sure what's going on....

Yes, it's actually my setup for months now.

And despite this, I have these tearing everywhere on my screen. I notice that there's less of these artefact when my GPU is less stress. I set in NVIDIA Control Panel, the "Max Frame Rate" to 30 which is confortable for my usage and will continue testing.

The results with this utility seem very volatile. I get best results with zero tearing by switching vsync on in both Nvidia Control Panel and in sim! This together with the lod changing utility have improved my sim experience immeasurably!

    It should be:

    C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_VERSION NUMBER__8wekyb3d8bbwe

That's curious, I have the store version and dropped mine in my customised location which is "C:\Flight Simulator 2020\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content -  I saw someone say this in the thread over on flightsimulator.com I think. It's working fine for me oddly enough.

    2. Locate your game's installation directory.

Where exactly should we drop the 2 files?
    In that folder? "C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe

I have the store version and dropped mine in my customised location which is "C:\Flight Simulator 2020\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content

    Working as it should (thankfully)

  5. Thanks for that explanation RALF9636, that's really helpful and I'll have another look at my settings to see how I can make things even better. For now though I am really happy. I've been looking for ever for some magic button that would allow me to have a fair amount of traffic active at a large airport whilst still being able to taxi. land etc without immersion breaking stutters. It was always the case that drastically reducing LODs would achieve this but at the cost of severely impairing the visuals once you gained altitude. To have the ability to change LODs automatically is simply wonderful and I hope Asobo react well to this utility and embrace it's objectives.

Did you keep all the folders and not move or delete any of them? Not sure if it made a difference but seemed to do the trick for me when the .exe opened in system tray and then just closed.

I thought I'd looked in the tray but maybe not. Anyway, I've got into the habit of restarting the app and the sim when I want to change values, trying anything else is possibly asking for trouble so better safe than sorry.

When I encountered that I found that I used "," for decimals instead of ".". The app read 1,5 as 15 so changed the TLOD to 1500 which made the sim come to a halt. Changing that to 1.5 - meaning TLOD 150 - solved this for me.

Did you check if the app was still active in the system tray - thus not able start again?

When closing the app-window it goes to the system tray. You have to completely close it from there. It also closes completely automatically with closing the sim.

Thanks for that, there are some idiosyncrasies that I haven't got my head around yet! In the config file the tlod pairs line includes a comma instead of a full stop so that confuses me. As I type I'm cruising along with a TLOD of 1 and OLOD of 1.5 and yet neither of those values is specified in the TLOD or OLOD levels boxes in the GUI so I have no clue what is going on! Anyway, its fun playing around with it.

EDIT - Just tried unchecking the Reduce LOD's by.... box and the respective values have changed to what they should be,

Do you guys notice some stutter or slow down when jumping from LOD to LOD ?

I see a tiny stutter but I'm keeping my changes in LOD settings quite low. I expect that the bigger the difference in LOD's when changing altitude the greater the chance of seeing a stutter as new objects etc appear or disappear (but that's pure guesswork on my part)

  9. Ok, I can now confidently say that I am definitely seeing a benefit from using this utility. I am currently taxiing the PMDG 737 around EGCC with lots of FSLTL traffic loaded and normally I'd be seeing lots of micro stutters as I turn etc but this is so much smoother, The ability for LOD to be adjusted based on your altitude has long been recognised as a possible solution to these stutters so it's great to see it working in reality.

That said I have been experimenting with the settings and things have gone wrong more than once. Changing them on the fly, or adjusting the in sim LOD settings seems to be a recipe for disaster, one time I ended up with a regular pulsing spike in CPU activity that could clearly be seen in the Debug FPS graph, only restarting the sim fixed the problem. Also the exe has refused to run a few times so I've had to reinstall it. Leaving everything on default seems to work best for me so I'm leaving it that way for the time being.

Isnt TLOD and OLOD primarly taxiing the CPU? Why should the GPU be of any relevance here? Except for the fact that thanks to frame generation, my FPS are fine even on heavy hubs like KLAX, KFJK or EGLL and so basically no need for a dynamic LOD changer here. Still nice to have such a tool 🙂

Just curious, even with a powerful system do you not get the occasional small stutter when taxiing around a large busy airport with lots of ai aircraft? I only have a mid range system and the little hiccups that occur when I'm moving around on the ground drive me to distraction!

  11. Well I took the plunge this morning and first impressions are positive. It's really not difficult to install, I've left the app settings on default to begin with. Tested at my home airport of EGNM with FSLTL running. Ordinarily when taxiing around the airport I get the odd little micro stutter particularly when I do a tight turn or look around. first test and those tiny stutters seem to have pretty much disappeared. Very encouraging results so far.

  12. Same here, no idea what was in there but first flight was plagued by long pauses which I'd not experienced before. Switching back to Dx11 to see if that makes any difference...

Edit - Has made no difference and oddly I am now experiencing the same frequent longish pauses where you can see a black line appear in the Developers mode FPS graph which coincides with a noticeable drop in GPU activity that have been reported by other testers. This is with moderate settings in a non-taxing area in mid flight, not landing etc and with no ai aircraft at all.

Do yourself and Mark a favor and buy directly from Mark. Download aviaserver and send a license request through aviaserver. Mark will respond with a link for payment and you're all set.

Hi. Well I'm still hoping that Just Flight will be feeling charitable and either refund my money or at least give me a credit note. I know it was my own stupid mistake but it was a genuine one and I haven't activated the code I was given. Fingers crossed...

  14. Wow, that was quick! Happy new year by the way!

Thanks for the info, so to clarify, when I move the dome light switch in the sim I do see the brightness change in the Avia overhead. For the reason you've explained, when I turn the panel light knob in the sim nothing happens in the Avia o/h cause of the sdk limitation. Because I'm just running the demo I can't turn the knob in the avia o/h but in the full version turning this up would bring up the orange backlighting as seen in the sim overhead panel. If that's right then I'm tempted to purchase!

  15. Hi all. I'm looking at this product and have successfully got it up and running and connected to MSFS. I am puzzled about night lighting though as no matter what I do I can't get it to look like the PMDG 737 overhead. in the demo clicking the screw above circuit breaker does display a less bright screen but it's not illuminated correctly and turning the dials in the sim has no effect - the knobs do work though as I can see actions in the avia overhead. Is this a limitation of the demo or the actual product, I have searched for videos and images of the product in use and not found much but what I have found doesn't show the overhead lit up as it should be at night. Thanks

    hi there,

does anyone know how to resolve a weird problem i'm having atm? Suddenly my pitch inputs do almost nothing, while the yoke (pmdg 738) in the VC moves correctly with my physical yoke. This also happens with the Fenix a320, full pitch up or down does almost nothing.

Roll axis works like normal. In the control settings all looks normal too, with full motions.

I didn't change anything in the sim..

    -Roland

edit: elevator shows normal movements in outside view, it just doesnt do anything.

Same here. glad to see someone else is having the same issue. Using latest beta and I can hardly get the pmdg 737 off the ground. All settings as normal and other aircraft are fine (don't have Fenix). Have to hope its something to do with the beta and will sort itself out in time

    Wow!

I'm really impressed. The only thing is missing, apart the default ATC inefficiency, is the holding pattern management that at the moment is completely absent. Actually the only way to manage the traffic on final is the go around.

This improvement is missing in all the other simulators and only one ATC addon was able to do that (I don't remember the name).

Was sat at Maccosim's EGCC just watching the traffic and it was swarming! In time I'm sure it'll get even better but warts and all, its still the best thing that's happened to this sim so far IMHO!

AIRCRAFT TRAFFIC TYPE should be OFF, the AIC-OCI traffic is injected through AIGTC, rest looks ok. DENSITY doesn't matter, will in fact be greyed out when you select OFF above.

I could be wrong but I've also dialled down Ground Aircraft Density to 0. This seems to prevent MSFS from placing inappropriate AI aircraft at gates etc and leaves AIG to do its stuff unhindered. As a result just spawned at KOAK and seeing lots of Fedex planes and no GA aircraft all over the place as would normally be the case, Been a bit fiddly getting it going but looking really good!

Probably because it's suppose to be private. They'll probably mention it in the Weekly update news post today.

But the thread IIRC was started by a member of public and there wasn't any reference to the post that was linked on Avsim. I was interested in the thread as I'd applied to be a peripheral tester and have heard nothing - I note that you can still apply through the link on the original announcement! All very odd.
