  1. This thread is so circular...

I haven't had time to read through all replies. Has anyone mentioned that a painted 'STOP' on the road is not taught or enforced by almost all DMVs in the conUS?

I stand by my original assesment. Both are at fault. The driver should have yielded and the pilot ought to have been aware of his surroundings...being a student is not excuse..he is still at fault.

The fact, however, is that bickering over the assignment of fault is pointless. No one was hurt. Both operators should have prevented the accident. Legally, however, I doubt either one can be held liable. If anyone, the airport manager should be held responsible for not assuring operational safety.

Like driving on a two lane road going 60 mph with the cars passing each other a few feet apart the responsibility rests on both. You may have absolute confidence in your ability to stay in your lane but if the person who passes you 2 feet away does not you are out of luck. IMHO-both gave it up in this situation. The pilot should have been scanning and mentally prepared for a go around due to many things that can go wrong-too high-too low-bad approach, bad wind correction, car on runway, deer on runway, coyote about to run on runway,,bird flock suddenly taking off at threshold like they do at Cleveland Burke lakefront. Instead it appears he was mentally committed no matter what and taken completely by surprise.

Car should have been looking around before crossing..whether a runway or a street intersection-I am sure most would.

I've flown and driven to Beaver Island airport in Michigan-similar road condition. No way I would fly in without anticipating there might be a car there. In a similar fashion-road des not have stop sign but states" caution low flying aircraft" . Get's my attention...As a car driver ( in this case passenger when I did it)

    ^this! :)

  2. WOW! The A320 t/o is absolutely criminal!

    Did a bit of research....

Here is the pprune discussion: http://www.pprune.or...keoff-roll.html

Also, here is a video of an almost identical incident. A lot less snow but visible ice...

Can't believe that any PIC would elect to proceed with t/o under such conditions.

Also came across this..."Special web page was created by the witness of the incident (Mr.Anopov). The first officer of the aircraft during that flight got in touch with Anopov and said that Captain Mr. Zolotaryov ignored his warning concerning the undone de-icing procedures."

  3. Before either one of you start the pi**ing contest in relation to X-Plane vs. FSX flight dynamics: I've been underwhelmed with both at times, yet impressed with both at other times. Flight models will be as good as the developers skills and ingenuity to overcome limitations. Both have limitations, both have strengths. Can we leave it at that?

I don't share this view. Things can feel just as whacky in Flight, and many finer details aren't modeled with any sort of accuracy. What Flight is doing is giving computer pilots around here a good feeling of flight. I just get all hot and bothered hearing folks say how "realistic" Flight's flight modeling is.

Agreed on all fronts. But I still stand by MY OPINION hehe that Flight, from all of the sims out there, has gotten closest to simulating real world flight.

  4. Interesting. Did you compare Carenado FSX flight models with Carenado X-Plane flight models ?

I have and neither one is authentic in my opinion. MS Flight was closest to the real thing dynamics wise...which is why I recommended in my original post that those dynamics be paired with quality birds and landmass graphics.

Either way, we all have different preferences. For now, I'll keep spending my $ on rw flying.

  5. They wouldn't have been able to do this as they would have been following company SOP, and a dot high on the approach would have meant they were out of the stable approach criteria and would have been going around once they hit 1,000' AGL.

Yeah you're right...I was referring to Part 91 non corporate GA. :)

  6. Blah but X-plane is far from authentic in the flight dynamics department if you ask me. Also, with made-up VFR scenery for a big chunk of the landmass...it's just not up to par with a 2012 flight sim. Yeah it would surely be a big task but it's not impossible.

  7. JK!

But damn it wouldn't that be great. They ought to take the Flight skeleton (mostly dynamics) and pair it with some basic graphics. That base with their fleet all for under $150. I would be sold in a heartbeat.

    ...and now back to life.
