  1. When I say integrated I mean that you can use it without alt+tab, from inside FSX (thus staying full screen) like this:Is that possible?
  2. Dear Lord, I had completely forgotten the learning center... :Shocked:Many thanks!p.s. For EFB though, isn't that integrated? If so I'd like to learn to use that instead of Plan-G.
  3. I thought EFB was integrated in FSX and you don't need it to run in a separate laptop. Also, can a good man please take the time when it's convenient for him to answer some of my questions from the above post? I really need some basic guidance.Kind regards
  4. Thanks for the help. Now, after suggestions here I downloaded and started using G-plan in order to make my flight plans. I must admit it seems like a great program. My problem with it (and it's the reason I won't be using it probably) is that it's not integrated with FSX. I have to play the simulation in window mode if I want to use its connectivity (and thus its features) which I find it annoying.Nevertheless, I do have some questions that I don't know if they are Plan-g's fault or simply aren't included in FSX. For example, in Plan-g I have set altitudes for each waypoint. Is there a way to show inside the plane's GPS what altitude I should aim for in the waypoint I'm heading or what speed is allowed? Or when I'm reaching my landing airport, is there a way for a program to let me know what my altitude should be for this airport in order to land? Can this information be available during flight or do I have to know it and write it down each time?- Also, Plan-g says it's a VFR program. Does that mean that I can't use to plan an IFR route?- When I was reaching the end of my tutorial flight plan I had to land at Liverpool. Do I have to contact to tower each time and in each flight in order to get landing clearance?- Do I have to put the coordinates on the GPS to calculate an approach, even when I'm flying VFR and I can see the airport fine?- When I load a flight plan from Plan-g to FSX, should I also press "calculate route" in the game or not?- Last but not least, can you recommend me a flight planning software that can be integrated with FSX and I don't have to play in window mode in order to obtain some basic information? Doing some research I found out that Electronic Flight Bag does this and its free for 30 days. It's also a good program from what people say.Kind regards to all
  5. Greatly appreciate the info. I can't pretend that I understood all the references but I think I get the general idea. What I don't get is if I need to do all these during a flight in the simulation, especially when I'm using a GPS.From what I gather VORs and NDBs are navigational aids that can help you find your position on the map and then pick a right bearing for a landing. Do I need to do these in order, for example, to approach the runaway with the correct bearing for a landing? If not how do you know you have the correct approach (do you take a look at another instrument?).Last, how can I tune to my VOR or NDB and how do I enter a compass bearing to the CRS? Is this info available before my flight or can I ask for them during my flight from an ATC?
  6. Alright. I'm learning the ropes of navigation these days, slowly, and I have some context questions for anyone who wants to contribute. I'll start with a simple one:I can understand what a VOR and what an NDB is but I can't seem to understand what their actual uses are, when it's time to use them and why do I need to use both?
  7. So, to make things clear:a) When you say "FSX default mesh" you mean the "base" files?:( When you say "FSX default landclass" you mean the folders with countries like Asia, Africa, etc and some folders which have city names, right?c) If mesh has an installer then I don't have to change its order. I just leave it where the program puts it, as long as I install first, right? Thanks for your support and patience. I can be a bit of OCD about these things, right to their tiniest detail. When I feel comfortable enough with my knowledge I do intend to write a small guide based on this topic. I'm hoping someone who has no clue whatsoever about the game (like me) will find it useful.Cheers
  8. So let's see what I've learnt so far, just to make mini guide. :)FSX install. Then install mesh (leave it where the program puts it)Then install landclass (move ALL available landclass so ALL "base" files in the scenery library are below but keep it before the countries (Asia, Africa etc). No (major) need to install landclass in the regions where UT is available but separate installs are allowed. So, for example, someone can install UT for USA and also install separate landclass for Europe. As long as it keeps the order above. Then install GEX (leave it as it is)Then UT (move every UTs above propeler objects. If there are other UT do the same. Always keep the order. So it's propeler objects -> EVERY UT available-> then everything else the system has in order.Extra scenery (like airports or cities) from the avsim library above everything else.Install order does not matter. Is this correct?
  9. I'm sorry but I do not know what these mean. FSX scenery library has "BASE XXX". Is this the mesh? Should I put landclass, (I'm considering this), for example, avove BASE files but below the country files (ASIA, africa etc)? After propeler objects or before? If the installation is automatically should I leave everything in the order the program chooses to put them in the scenery library?I can't find a proper explanation anywhere. :(
  10. Oops, sorry. Didn't mean any offence. :)I have an ATI card and I have read everywhere that it doesn't like FSX very much. Fortunately I don't have any special problem until now. I used the auto config to try some busy airports and cities (like LAX, JFK, NY) and I was getting acceptable frame rates (between 25 and 34 - flying low in NY dropped it to 16-19 which was ok). In other places I've tried... mostly everything goes smoothly. I would like some better graphics at distance though so I don't see bluries that much but actual scenery (don't know what to change yet though). Thanks for the info. :) I will be back with more flying questions.
  11. I used this. It was recommended in here for a great freeware (if memory serves me well). The weather add on is this. Again recommended here for a great freeware alternative to ASE.edit: thanks for the guide. I'll start it right away. You also said you are using a 3rd party flight planner. I don't want to start learning the default and then switch to another. Maybe it's better to start and stick with one from the start?P.S. I have a great flight planned for tonight in Scotland. :)
  12. Thanks Costa and oldbear, well met.I'm ready with UTX Europe and GEX Europe will follow. For weather add on I will be using FSReal. I used the automatic tweaking tool for a better config, but I can't understand what the tweaks do. Is it for better perfomance, better graphics or balanced based on my hardware? Also, in FSReal, does Dynamic Weather mean that the weather will change according to new data during flight? If so why is it at 0? Should I tick mixed clouds or not? Does the program create turbulence?Next, I want an easy to handle but fast aircraft do to some exploring. Do you have any recommendations? My goal is to learn to use the flight planner (which one do you recommend?) so I can start to understand some terms. And to answer your question, Costa, no I don't know what VORs, NDBs, ILS are. :( Can I learn these from the learning center?)That's it for now. :)
  13. Some questions for you good people.I'll be buying GEX 2.0, GEX Europe and UTX Europe. Then I plan to use some freewhare mesh and landclass for terrain. In what order should these be put to the librabry? I did a search and I found some posts but I need some verification here. If I decide to use a second UTX in which order should I put this in the scenery library? Also, how should I generally proceed playing this to learn it better? Should I finish the tutorials and go on with the missions? Should I try to learn one plane well and stick to it? Is the default flight planner any good or should I use a third party one for my free flights? Last but not least, is there a tutorial about tower communication and what everything means?Again, sorry for all these questions and thanks for the help. I know you've probably answered these things many times but I can't find a collective tutorial anywhere and there are many terms to learn. I just want to gather all the available info and then proceed with experimentation while I start doing some more serious flying.Thank you all.
  14. Thank you all for the advice. Today I flew my first jet in the tutorial mission. Nothing exciting for you pros, I know, but it felt really great. The sense of power and speed after having spent 3 days with single engine crafts was amazing. And the landing... I managed to do it at first go but I was really nervous since I was coming in really hot. I managed to stop it just as the runway ended. :) Great stuff. To return to the beautification of the game, Is ORBX different than ultimate terrain or GEX? If I have both do I need to get ORBX as well? And what of FS Genesis? Is it worth it to use is for the whole world? Also, is landclass included in the above packages? Or is it something we have to worry separately?Last but not least, I haven't seen any scenery improvements for Asia... Are there any?edit: Also, As I climbed at 10.000ft I noticed that the scenery got blurrier. Is this the fault of the the FSX engine? Can it be fixed with GEX or UT for example?
  15. Many thanks for the replies guys, but more questions are coming.I've decided to start with GEX Europe and UTX Europe. Do I need anything special to install them? From what I understand it's better to move UTX above propeler objects and below anything else that's there. Is it a simple as moving one file down the library? Are there are many? Or maybe I should just move the propeler objects up?edit: If I download a scenery from AVSIM, how will interfere with GEX and UT if I have it installed? For example, I have my eye on a photoreal scenery of Attika, Greece. How do I know it's a texture file? Many thanks.
