Been out of flightsims for a while, have a question
Thank you Word Not Allowed for all the information in that hardware/software guide. Time to go shopping first for the hardware :Big Grin:

Upgrading
Hi Word Not Allowed First off, thank you for your software/hardware guide for FSX. Quite a bit of information to absorb and I am still reading through it. I built this rig about 4 years ago maybe, and I guess it may be time to start fresh. I just wish I could spend maybe 300 or so and do something with what I have...perhaps a dx11 video card with 2gb with my resolution may help some. You are exactly right, that GTX295 absolutely sucks in FSX as well as XPlane 10. No matter what I try it just will not handle what I am trying to throw at it. Not saying the 295 is a bad card, it still is a pretty decent card for a lot of my games. Simulators on the other hand is where that card seems to choke. I was considering another 295 and run it in SLI, but I don't think I would see a lot of difference there either. Income tax time is drawing near, guess I know what I'm doing in a few months :-). Thanks again for the help and your guide, that is awesome! Tony

Upgrading
Thank you Will, I appreciate your help. I will get the sim up and running then do optimization as you suggest. I was thinking probably a video card would help the best, followed by possibly a little more ram, maybe bump it up to 12gb instead of 6gb. I guess my video card is the biggest bottleneck of my system right now. I will let you know how the tweaks/optimize go, and thanks again for helping. Tony

Hi I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place or not, admins feel free to move it if needed. I have been an avid flight simmer for years, own all the ms titles as well as others, and now downloading prepar3d academic. Can't wait to try this out. My pc seems to have a hard time with FSX and X-plane 10 with graphics high. It runs fine, but I get "framing" as if I am in an old picture show (showing my age). Here are my quick specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit EVGA X-58 SLI motherboard (132-BL-E758-A1) 6 Gigs of Corsair Dominator memory running at 1600 8-8-8-24 I believe Core I-7 965 Extreme at 3.6Ghz, HT enabled EVGA GeForce GTX-295 not overclocked 24" Gateway monitor running at 1920x1200 Since you guys have been in this and know what works best, what is the best upgrade I can do? I want something that I can almost max out graphics wise but still maintain 40+ fps..... Bump up the memory? Get a better video card? Trash the whole box and buy something else? Thanks for the input and help Tony

Been out of flightsims for a while, have a question
Hi I grew up with MS Flight Sim back when Bruce Artwick owned it, so I am giving away my age lol. I have all MS Flight titles, and recently found info on Prepar3d. I am downloading the academic version now and looking forward to flying it. I have been skimming around in these forums and found where some users are applying tweaks for Prepar3d such as affinitymask, HT setting off, UsePools etc. Where can I find a listing of how to set these tweaks or is there a wiki page for this simulator that has that information? Again, I have been out of it for quite a while and getting back into flying. Thanks for the help Tony
