  1. Hi Everyone, Thursday 5th March. On way back from Sydney I decided to check out the layout of the Airport and 'bumped' into the Manager of the Historical Aircraft Museum (sorry, can't remember his name) while looking for a suitable location to take photos. He informs me that the QANTAS 747-400 has a departure slot around 7:40am, Sunday 8th March from Sydney Intl (YSSY) and is expected at Albian Park Airport (YWOL) approx seven to ten minutes later (depending on prevailing weather conditions) and will be landing on runway 16. The airport is situated in a triangle surrounded by public roads with a roundabout pretty much directly in line with runway 16. According to the manager the N.S.W. police force will be closing all traffic in either direction at the roundabout while the Boeing 747-400 makes its final decent into the airport. At the southern end of the airport for a runway 34 approach is the Illawarra Hwy and that too will be closed also until the aircraft has landed and stopped. The tug to tow the 747-400 is already there and will tow the aircraft from the runway to its temporary parking area until the permanent parking apron is completed. I believe that there'll be a 'small' fenced off area that the public can view while the 747-400 is being towed and positioned in the temporary parking area. I hope that this information is helpful to any aircraft enthusiast who is planning on travelling to the airport to see the QANTAS Boeing 747-400 make its final landing this coming Sunday, 8th march. Regards, IRE.
  2. Hi, The date has been set for the last Flight ever of the first QANTAS Boeing 747-400. As I mentioned before the aircraft will be housed at the Albian Park Historical Aircraft Museum. It will Leave its QANTAS Base at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport and fly down the coast to its new and permanent home. The QANTAS Boeing 747-400 will touch down at the Albian Park Airport on Sunday morning, the 8th March 2015 and the time will be at approx 8am Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time. This will be subject to Weather conditions on that day. Would it be possible to put the date and time of touch down on Avsim's Front Page for all Flight Simulator and Aircraft enthusiasts please. Regards, IRE.

    The last Ever Flight

Update on the last ever flight for the first ever QANTAS Boeing 747-400. The Shell Harbor City Council, which the Albion Park Airport is located in have agreed that the Boeing 747-400 can become part of the museum's aircraft collection at the airport. The question they as well as everyone else concerned are asking is: - will the runway support the enormous weight of the Boeing 747-400 when it lands. Regards, IRE.

    The last Ever Flight

Hi Eugene, Those figures you worked out are pretty spot on to the suggested ones that the WIN TV local news reported. It'll also be interesting to see which way the 747-400 lands depending on the wind direction. Landing north will mean decending between two hills to the threshold and landing in a southerly direction will mean decending over the main highway and its 'roundabout' intersection to the threshold, which is similar to the (TNCM) Princess Juilana Intl although not as close where people stand outside the perimiter fence watching aircraft land and take off. A couple of nights ago it was reported that some of the local residents have voiced their concerns about the QANTAS 747-400. A public meeting is to be held next week to discuss what damage there might be, if any to the runway when the 747 lands, where the parking apron is to be built and the tail overhang at the porposed location, which will be out over the outside access road that follows the perimeter frence around to the airport. I'm sure all the concerns voiced by the local residents will be answered and the 747-400 will be part of the museum's aircraft collection in the not to distant future. Regards, IRE.
  5. Hi, Last year a lot of you flight simmers are aware I have a brain fade and put a question on the forum for which I paid dearly (and apologised for), but I'm hoping this question will make up for that stupid error in judgement. At approx 7:15pm Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time on the WIN local news service it was announced that the first QANTAS Boeing 747-400 that flew non-stop from London to Sydney will be making its last flight ever flight when it takes off fom Sydney Internationl Airport and flies down the coast to its new home at the Albian Park Airport: Approx ten minutes flying time for the Boeing 747-400. As usual the Local council and other relevent Government Departments have to sort out the 'red tape' to get the aircraft down to its final 'resting place', but once the red tape is removed it will be on its way. I know there are many filight simmers who have an active interest in the 'real world' of flying, the airlines and the aircraft flown. So my question is: - How many flight simmers who live in Australia and in particular the New South Wales east coast will be travelling to Albian Park Airport to see the last ever landing of the first QANTAS Boeing 747-400 on the 'postage stamp' runway similar to when a QANTAS Boeing 707 and 747SP landed at the Queensland's Longreach airport where there QANTAS museum is located? If the Air Shows that are put on at the airport are any indication this signifient yet small event should be well patronised. I for one will be travelling up the coast to see it happen! Regards, IRE
  6. Hi and WOW, After a sleepless with 'the worry beads' night I open the Avimsim Forum to find these replies. I did learn about etiquette in my early days way before Flight Simulators were invented, but in this case (The post I wrote about) I had a memory lapse. A lesson from a good friend of mine in learning to loose and show dignity in doing so when I fist took up Tenpin Bowling in the early sixties set me on the right path and you guys reminded me of that lesson! To WingZ, I agree; there are a lot of great freeware downloads to be had here at Avsim and I've downloaded many of them. To ematherson, Correct on the amount of posts I've submitted. I've tried to ask pertinent questions, but in this case I guess it was one that the Avsim Board should have removed and 'flushed down the toilet'! To ANZ121, I'm no scenery designer, re-painter or any other thing, but I would still like to think that airport/s that were designed in the earlier years of the flight simulator can be improved (with the aid of the newer editing Tools) to the standards that are achieved today and re-loaded to the freeware websites; first of course would have to be the Avsim website! You mentioned in your reply about manually unzipping downloaded files and putting them in the correct folders. I still do it today if having to copy and paste a cfg file, (which I had no idea what that was until I was shown how to open it) or put Scenery and Texture files into the correct folders, effects files into the right folder, etc, and doing similar for the PMDG re-paints or any files that don't have an auto installer. Does that qualify? To mebull, and to everyone who were quick to respond to my apology thanks for your kind words, which I never expected, but are appreciated. I will chose my topics and words within a lot better in the future. And don't delete me from those awards nominations. God, I'm and 'Old carrot' and I don't win zip anymore, not even a Lotto prize! Regards, ire.
  7. Hi again, Let's see if I've got all the names that have posted a reply above this one to what I now think; CORRECTION, now believe to be a 'LOUSY' question: - ematheson. wingZ. Daveo. gizmosellsbunnys. ViperPilot. mebull. C-JEAN. Jeff H. ANZ121. gwillmot. alderson57. I was not trying to say that designers weren't up to scratch in any way as I interpreted the responses to be; so too each and everyone of you, and any other scenery designers that read this reply post I humbly apologise for the question and its contents within! To gwillmot, I accept your nomination with humility and remorse, and will gladly accept the award if I win. At least then I can say that I've won a award, but for all the wrong reasons; be it for the 'Worst Question Posted or wooden spoon 'Foot in the Mouth' award! Regards, ire.
  8. Hi, Read everyone's postings on the best Freeware Airports for FS9/FS2004 and checked out each link. Got to say those links provide some really good designed airports and have downloaded most of them. I came across the avsimrus website many years ago when looking for Russian airports to add on the my flight simulator and without the aid of a picture to give a clue to what the designed airport looked like I downloaded it and added it to my FS. 'Wow was my thoughts when I opened my FS to that airport. Even with Active Sky downloaded weather (winter) it looked great. Here's my question and perhaps added as a new topic: - Has any flight-simmer added an airport to their Flight Simulator that looks like; well, not what they thought it would be? I came across Auckland, New Zealand (FS9/2004) that wasn't what I expected it to be for design and construction of an international airport. On the other end of the scale Wellington, New Zealand (FS9/2004) was up with the best airports as well as Vista Australis (FS9/2004) that I've loaded into my Flight Simulator! If there are other airports that anyone cares to name perhaps there are persons or groups that could enhance the Flight simulator (FS9/2004) with their renditions of those airports for others to enjoy. Regards, ire.
  9. Hi, Just want to know if or when PMDG is going to Email me with a link to download the Freighter add-on for the Queen of the Skies. I have made the $5.00 purchase and received notification, but am still waiting! Any advice would help. ire.
  10. Hi kevinh, Much appreciated that you took the time to read my question and give me the answer that I needed. Perhaps the PMDG Technical team should change the wording (for 'un-intelligent' guys like me, maybe) so that it reads something simple like: - Download will be sent as an attachment to your Email address after purchase-payment and verification. Anyway, thanks again for your help. ire. - Ian. And have a good day!
  11. Hi, been with out a decent computer for the last three years, but finally had one built and have an external hard drive to back all my files now. I lost all the stored downloads when the old computer crashed and couldn't retrieve them so I had to begin all over again. I thankfully had the FS9 747-400 CD, but I lost the downloaded PMDG FS9-747-400F freighter addon due to the crash. I've just paid the $5 bucks to get the addon, but us (old f$%ts) pensioners somehow don't quite understand these new things of doing things, especially when it comes to obtaining that addon again. I somehow ended up in the Avsim PMDG support forum and worked my way through until I came across this post that looks very similar to what I after. I've read the question and the four answers pertaining to the FX-747 and hopefully that the same applies to the FS9-747, but I've seemed to not quite understand something. Can any of you correct me if I'm doing something wrong or give me some guidance to a couple of questions? Does PMDG send the freighter addon via an email attachment on completion of a ticket registration and payment. Or do I have to rack my brains and try and find the download at PMDG or some other site like Avsim in the PMDG support forums where I am now. Any help would be much appreciated! Regards, Ian. PS: Are any of you joining flying in this year's Worldflight 2013 beginning next month? I'm not, but I am up to leg 13 of the 45 by myself. For me it's a good way for me to relieve the stress levels! 'Have a good day'!
